Thats something i considered too.. Get a kickass Asus SLI motherboard for AM2 with a chipset that at least wants to go faster then 290MHz....

The Gigabyte MA69G S3H I a good mobo if you want a good overclocker. Many people that have this mobo have been able to get 350HTT or up with it.

The 590chipset looks pretty sexy, but it comes with Sli from which i'm not planning to get a Nvidia set. I'm more Ati fan , lol. It would be kinda waste of money to get a SLI setup, without planning to use it.
Anyway is there a motherboard that really does up to 400MHz HTT guaranteed? Like if i put there 2 rammodules of the fastest speed there is (at a logic price lol) am i able to get something of fastly?
I can imagine that a dualcore CPU loves the bandwith, with benchmarks i pretty go up high from 2 to 2.7 GHz, pretty much of a big difference. If i can reach 3.2GHz atleast imma have an equelevant 6000+ lol without spending cash into the CPU. Imo is a CPU cheaper to replace then a complete motherboard, when it dies from overclocking.
Too bad... Not really looking to invest 150€ for a decent motherboard. Most of the features a motherboard carries i don't even need. This gigabyte is on that point pretty much perfect, too bad for the 290HTT and not anymore higher.
I am running the FC BIOS and can run stabily at 380MHZ HTT (clockgen could take me to 420 before the system crashed) I found that above 280 there was a hole if the 3x HTT multiplier was used. If however I used the 2X multiplier with relaxed RAM timings 340+MHZ opened up. I also found that changing the "PCI Latency Timer (CLK)" setting from the default of 32 to 64 gained me an extra 10 MHZ HTT. I had to use the 400mhz divider as the 533 divider or higher would not allow my system to boot at higher than 320 which is strage given that my RAM would have been running @ around stock on the 533 multiplier @ 320.

What you say might be correct for your board, but i've tried every possible setting related to the HTT multiplier. Can you tell me what type of memory you are using? Corsair? It might be that the memory is'nt compatible for some reason... I always increase or lower the PCI Latency towards 32 or 64, but however this defenitly looks positive for me to check wether again to get it on 300+MHz....I found that above 280 there was a hole if the 3x HTT multiplier was used.

Do you have a fan on your Chipset???
Mine was running at close to 70C and limiting me to about 270 before I put a fan on it.
My RAM is pretty crappy. It is Elixir brand (basically unbranded) but capable of 1066mhz BUT only if I decrease the timings to 6-6-6-22 and it they do not respond to voltage very well either so I wouldnt think it would be your ram. What REV mobo are you running?

That is a point, G3.. the cooler is so inadequte it's not funny
I gotta say I haven't tried one myself, I guess the 230 wall kind of put me off bothering to waste my time but i'm determined now we have a success story from G3
When there was no fan on my chipset I was running 270HTT with random lockups with NO extra volts but when I put the fan onto the chipset I could run at upto 420HTT at a temp of around 43-47C (depends on room temp) with .375V passing through the chipset and havent had a problem since.
Also noted that when I push 1.55V through my CPU when underload the mobo overvolts the CPU by .15V!!!! giving me a total of 1.7V (through a brisbane @3.3GHZ)so when your overclocking you have to take into account for an almost 10% overvoltage factor at load and about a 3% overvoltage factor at idle.

Yeah that plain heatsink supplied by Gigabyte is indeed crappy. I replaced the glue or whatever it was, with artic silver. I noticed that once you removed the cooler it does'nt really 'fit' strong. Like you can move the heatsink with your finger without doing much effort. It kinda concerns me, and yeah alot of people with these boards have heating problems, However at Cold boot it shoud'nt be the problem to be honest.
Review my case again in the startpost. I got so much decent airflow it should be just more then enough. To be safe i still installed a Stock-AMD fan at 5V and putted it infront of the chipset. My memory is a Matched pair of Corsair PC6400 at 4-4-4-12, which is pretty good. However i'm still considering to get PC8000 or simular, to at least get the 1:1 condition with the memory.

Fuxk knows how you ppl are getting high HTT on these boards, mine wont go above 262 ay any multi and volts and of anything it is just stuck there.

Thanks for the pic's G3. I can't say i've tried chipset voltages as high as that :o perhaps that is the key, I'll chekc it out (with some better cooling!)
I just maxxed the settings and booted. These settings got me to 420MHZ HTT Orthos so u may not need as much voltage for under 380MHZ.
I just sat a small AMD socket A fan on the NB and had it blowing on it, didnt even replace the default thermal crap.
In my opinion u don't really need any extra volts on the CPU-HT link Voltage until about 320+ MHZ however as u guys are having a hardtime with Settings above ~260MHZ I would just put a fan on and boost all voltages to +.375.
Also had any1 else noticed how much this board overvolts @ load?

I also have a Gigabyte MBO with a nvidia chipset (6100/430 with IGP) - M55Plus-S3G (rev1.2) with F11 BIOS. I wrote about the same problem with my board, that I can't go over ~280Mhz in BIOS (282Mhz with GoodRAM memory is the max. that I got the board to POST).
I found that the max. bootable FSB depends much on the memory used and the memory divider used. Something with the IMC is wrong, my guess is the BIOS. Cause I got over 300Mhz easily with clockgen. If I remember correct, I went to 345Mhz without a problem in Windows with Clockgen and ran some stability tests without a problem (will try to find some screenies).
But now I'll try with g3monster's settings, HT multy 2x and PCI timer to 64.
I hope that we will find a solution to this

Im curiouse but wouldnt TIMING @ 1T be a problem with that high of a FSB,i would suspect it to create more stress for the X2memory controler /Heat on the mobo .. @ 300fsb i hope you making shure that eggs dont burn on the 550 heatsinkIt needs to be kept nice and cool...
they are know to fizzle/cook skin on fingers and have even shut down a pc i built a lil while back for a friend ....Since he has added a waterblock to the 550 it ran around 280-300fsb 78c under load..With out the watercooling it was Extremely hot like/ 128c under load for like prime and sp runs! You could smell the heatsink paste

I "used too use gigabyte", thier not bad but they shure dont run cool unless you have water on the 550..,Recomend Tforce550 =more stability for this class of mobo hands down.....
Besides that ,@300 and 1T it just may not like that combo ,I would try it with 2T and maybe ease the timming or set TRC 22 or higher untill you excede your goal of 300FSB, Im just going by your screenshot
Note: Trfc is the slot timing for memory .... 105,75,105,75 works pretty good depending on mobo and clock speed....For the most part i leave them on auto unless its last resort...

There is no way his chipset was running at 128C unless it was run without a heatsink. My TForce550 has a chipset temp of 26-28C as far as I can tell, and thats with a tiny actively cooled sink. However, Temp1 in Speedfan reads 127C all the time, and I can assure you thats an unused input to the temperature monitoring chip on the board (which is probably also the case on your friends board).

It ran 128c and the HEATSINK FELL OFF FROM HEAT AND WAS RMA'D..Piece of crap was recalled from Fry's 1 month late and it was revisoin 2
Note i also have a MSI K9n-neo with the Platinum bios with 550 chipset runs 280fsb@68cmax On air and its worse than the Gigabyte for Volts and Overclocking..
Notice how i recomended a Tforce or are you not reading the whole tread!Heat sensor was tapped to the heatsink using a MULTIMATE Digatal Dvom!when a Card is covering the heatsink there is no where for heat to go..Plus thier heatsink would work better if it were shorter and no adding to pulling the push pins out!!!!
Also the push pins were not properly seated from the factoctory and pulled out of mobo from the Heat generated that warped the heasink of 550chipset....(Circled in red) the plastic push pins and also the 4pin molex has to be used for stability reasons !

GByte shoulda used a fan and smaller heatsink,Less can be better in this case .....

I'm a fan of the tall passive NB heatsinks myself (of course I run air cooling and have plenty of airflow), these small fans tend to die sooner or later.
Thanks for the further explanation of the problem, perhaps it will help someone with that GB board to check their pushpins.
If I had that board I would probably screw a 50mm fan to the hs, looks to be pretty straightforward.
