    Talking Q6600 'G0' SLACR L725A903 + Asus Blitz Extreme 0804

    Q6600 SLACR
    FPO/Batch: L725A903
    Version: E10342-001
    Pack Date: 07/31/07

    System:
    • Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 L725A903 7/31/07 pack date G0
    • CPU cooling = Swiftech G4 Storm/Thermochill 120.3/MCP655
    • NB chipset cooling = Radiical Chipset Block/Corsair Cool single 120mm fan Rad/MCP350
    • Asus Blitz Extreme 0804 bios
    • 128MB Gainward FX5200 PCI
    • 2x1GB OCZ PC3-14400 Platinum - DDR3-1800 rated at 8-8-8-27 at 1.9v
    • 500GB Seagate 7200.10 SATA on SATA1 Port
    • LiteOn 165H DVD Burner
    • Sony FDD
    • 1KW OCZ ProXStream
    • WinXP Pro SP2

    I originally booted up the Q6600 L725A903 system with Asus Blitz Extreme 0702 bios and it was fine. But decided to flash using in bios Ez Flash2 and USB drive to latest 0804 bios before doing any further testing.

    Booting up at stock and using both Coretemp 0.94 and 0.95.4 beta and Asus PC Probe2 you can see the reported cpu idle and load temps are probably not correct considering my room ambient temperature right now is between 22C to 23C.

    @2405Mhz - 9x266FSB at 1.25v bios set = 1.224v idle/1.216v load

    Q6600 L725A903 VID = 1.25v

    Idle

    @3600Mhz - 9x400FSB at 1.46875v bios set = 1.44v idle/1.432v load

    Can pass wprime 1024M @3600Mhz at 1.376v vcore, but for Prime95 v25.3 small ffts load need more vcore. Compared to my Q6600 B3 ES L632Axxx cpu, this Q6600 G0 retail L725A903 runs around 4-6C cooler but requires around 0.04v to 0.06v more vcore @3600Mhz.

    Room ambient temp = 23.3C to 24.5C

    Prime95 Idle

    Prime95 Small FFTs Load

    Prime95 Post Load Idle

    Still at 1.432v vcore, I setFSB my way up to 9x427FSB = 3843Mhz and could wprime 32M bench!

    Q6600 L725A903 @4005Mhz at 1.6125v bios set

    Easily hit 4005Mhz at 1.576v idle/1.568v load for 32M

    Cheers Eva! was looking for some time for a post on many forums about how this board is with G0/SLACR.

    What are people generally getting with these boards and Q6600's?? Whats the general impressions about there overclocking?

    Only ask because i already have a Q6600 SLACR and a Blitz is on its way (Its the DDR2 Formula though, not DDR3 Extreme)...

    yeah phase change maybe later but for now water

    Spacemaster, still testing will be a while before i get all results since i'm testing 3 motherboards simulatenously - Q6600 G0Asus Blitz Extreme, E6850 G0 Blitz Formula and E6850/E6750 DFI LP UT P35-T2R.

    Testing Max FSB

    Not sure but I think my Asus Blitz Extreme itself or the bios/DDR3 settings that might be holding back my max FSB a tad. Q6600 L725A903 G0 manages 7x485FSB without touching CPU PLL from 1.5v. But this is nearly the exact same FSB wall all other cpus I have tested on this Asus Blitz Extreme!

    On Asus Blitz Extreme:
    • X6800 B2 L627A872 = 480FSB max (did 485-490FSB on Asus P5K Deluxe)
    • E6750 G0 ES L710A438 = 480-485FSB max (did 495-500FSB on Asus P5K Deluxe)
    • E6600 B2 L709A958 = 485FSB max (530FSB on Asus Blitz Formula)
    • Q6600 G0 L725A903 = 485FSB max (yet to test on other motherboards)

    So what to do ? Drop cpu multiplier and move off 1:2 cpu/memory divider and see how high I can clock Q6600 L725A903 FSB. And guess what I've moved past the 485FSB initial wall when I was on 1:2 divider for memtest86+ v1.70 only. However, it seems for total stability when stressing all 4 cores even 490FSB isn't as stable. Playing with subtimings helped somewhat when loosened but looks like 485FSB might be max on this Asus Blitz Extreme for now until I test memory some more. Right now, it could be a cpu fsb wall, a motherboard/bios and/or memory timings barrier holding max FSB back.

    Now to test at 485FSB, I decided to drop to 6x cpu multiplier for max FSB tests. So before I start, I need to find a nice and stable vcore setting for 3000Mhz to cover the 490-500FSB range at 6x cpu multiplier

    9x333FSB at 1.30 bios = 1.276v idle/1.268v load

    4+ hrs Large FFTs Prime95 Load

    6x485FSB at 1.30 bios

    Does look like at default CPU PLL of 1.50v, max FSB for this Q6600 L725A903 so far is 485FSB.

    Thanks.. I've found the new FSB range of 490-495FSB within grasp

    6x493FSB 3:5 1T

    Here's some benchmarks back on 6x cpu multiplier @493FSB to start with. This time I changed command rate on memory as well from 2T to 1T.

    Q6600 L725A903 @4145Mhz

    Now to push my Q6600 L725A903 until it screams a little bit

    • Max cpuz validation = 4145Mhz at 1.616v
    • Max wprime 32M = 4130Mhz at 1.616v rebooted after submission to hwbot LOL
    • Max wprime 1024M = 4095Mhz at 1.616v
    • Max Super Pi 32M = 4095Mhz at 1.616v so far
    • Max Cinebench R10 = 4095Mhz at 1.616v so far

    Beat my previous Q6600 B3 ES best 32M time by ~10 seconds http://www.hwbot.org/result.do?resultId=632775!

    Single eVGA 8800GTX @648/1512/2060

    Bumped cpu multiplier to 9x450FSB 1:2 at 1.616v vcore and ran 3dmark06 - pretty anti-climatic to be GPU limited LOL

    New PB for Pcmark05 with I-Ram disk of course... Previous best was 15,107 with E6600 @4364Mhz.

    Pcmark05 = 16,664

    Honestly can't remember bios settings probably all in the screenshot

    Now revisiting for some 3dmarks with new 169.02 drivers

    System:
    • Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 L725A903 7/31/07 pack date G0
    • CPU cooling = Swiftech G4 Storm/Thermochill 120.3/MCP655

    • WinXP Pro SP2

    640MB Gainward 8800GTS stock hsf @648/1620/2016 + 169.02 drivers

    New 169.02 drivers really boost the numbers for 3dmarks

    3Dmark06 = 14,017
    3Dmark05 = 22,186
    3Dmark2003 = 42,372
    AM3 = 229,201

    3Dmark06

    3Dmark05

    3Dmark2003

    AM3 - 2.2K BOOST over my old PB with E6600 @4410Mhz!
