Here's the response I got from Gigabyte...

Removing the crazy cool backplate will void the warranty, removing the crazy cool heatsink will cause the northbridge to overheating and the other 2 portion where the heatpipe is on top.
This guy is funny... the manual tells you how to remove the backplate - so... I don't know what he's saying it voids the warranty...

Whatever, either way I got a perfect cut done today.

    And my response...

But the manual tells you how to remove the backplate in case the owner has a heatsink that requires bottom mounting. Why would the manual tell the buyer how to remove the backplate if it voided warranty?

Would Gigabyte rather me use the Intel stock heatsink which lets my quad load at 75C or a better heatsink which keeps my load temperatures under 60C - and effectively keeping the motherboard area around the CPU socket cooler.

Please don't tell me the motherboard will overheat without the Crazy Cool backplate because I know it will not. The passive cooling heat pipe system is the largest passive cooling system I have seen on any motherboard. And combined with the fact that I have fans mounted to that passive cooling system - not a chance unless I decide to go overkill on all of my voltages which I do not do. Other motherboard so not have a heat-pipe system at all, and no backplate, and yet those do not overheat.

Now, please give me a serious response, on the warranty issue if it really is voided or not if the plate is removed, and if it voided please tell Gigabyte to remove page 16 section 1-3-3 in the Gigabyte P35-DQ6 manual, because that is the entire step by step page on how to remove the backplate - and no where does it mention a warranty being void.

    Another board another day

Well.....the DQ6 is sitting in THE PILE. I ll get around to RMAing it later.

The GA-P35-DS3P is in. Rev 1.1 Bios F4 This board works with no issues. Given my finger test, I would say this board is overvolting the memory too.

Core temp says that my CPU is Idleing at 48C

The Bios reports almost 10 C lower.

Anyhow this is a major improvement over the scythe ninja I had in there.

    My sig lists my hardware.

If I replace the stock thermal paste on the NB and SB heatsinks with AS5, will it void the warranty or not? I have a P35-DS3 that should arrive today and I'd like to know before mounting the whole system into the case.

BTW, how good is the stock thermal paste anyway? Is it even worth the effort of replacing it with AS5?

For some reason the F5 final and F5h beta bios put my PCI-E x16 with my 8800 GTS in X1 mode whenever I overclock the CPU, returning to stock restores x16 mode. Anyone noticing this also?

    Help from Mushkin

I've been in contact with mushkin's tech support.

As soon as I get a chance I ll post the proper timings for the XP2-8500 (at 1066) sticks for the Gigabyte P35 series motherboards.

Mushkin is also giving feedback on the proper settings for 400mhz FSB to work out of the box.

As soon as I verify this, I ll post it.

    Hi

All my previous setups have been AMD but ive finally taken the plunge and joined the Intel club.

Quick query my mobo says revision 1.1 on it. Looking at the Gigabyte site there isnt a revision 1.1 only 1.0 and 2.0. Other boards have pages for Revision 1.x so would be fine but this board doesnt. Anyone got a v.1.1 and are you using v.1.0 which I would guess is the right one due to r.2.0 not having various ports etc.

    For the NB/SB/MOSFETs
a lot of people use a more non-conductive grease like
Arctic Ceramique or maybe Arctic Alumina et. al.
    (I don't know if MX1 / MX2 are non-conductive or not).

That way if some squeezes out from the top of the chip
over the side it's not a disaster waiting to happen.

    AS5's good for the CPU.

Some people will say just use Ceramique for everything.
Some say MX2 or MX1 is best for the CPU and who
    knows about the other applications.

EDIT: Looks like MX-1 and MX-2 are non-conductive as well.

    http://www.arctic-cooling.com/further_prod2.php?idx=140

Actually since the NB / SB / FET heat-sinks tend to be mounted loosely
and wobble / shift when you touch them (much moreso than the CPU sink), maybe
a more greasy liquidy type substance that doesn't crust/'harden' so much over
time would be better for those since it'd be able to re-form after the heatsink
moves a little. I'm not sure what'd be good for that attribute...
    titan nano grease?

Can anyone list their temp drops using AS5 (or similar) versus the stock paste on the NB/SB?

Would the number listed for "System" with Easy Tune be the number affected?

I hate being a Doubting Thomas, but without knowing some actual number drops, how would anyone _know_ it's a good idea?

Anyone know if they changed the straps or anything else in F5 bios of Gig P35 DQ6 that would affect stability?

I tried F5 bios on world site, (F5L only listed on USA), but downloaded from US server. My 24/7 is 3.83 with 1.4375 vcore in bios, orthos stable 18hrs on F4 bios.

When intalled F5 bios, my system failed boot few times, then auto changed settings back to default. After changing settings one by one, I could go 9x400, but trying 9x420 at same 1.4375 vcore it would fail, reboot into auto settings and back to 9x333. Its not my memory, it is pc8500.

Did not feel like figuring out new stability settings with orthos again, so just changed back to F4, and booted right up into my old settings no problem. Clearly they changed something affecting overclock stability from F4 to F5, ? straps.

    still rolling towards stability

Well after overclocking, underclocking and checking everything out.

I can not get my memory to be 100% stable at its rated timings. This includes raising the voltage. The best I am getting is 5-5-5-12 @ 1066. This is stable at +0.2Volts. Raising the voltage slowly all the way to 2.35V doesn't get me to 5-5-4-12. Nor does changing any other voltage or setting.

5-5-4-12 seems to pass 12 hours of memtest on test 5.

But at 5-5-4-12 the computer can not resume from stand-by or pass 12 hours of Othos.

    5-5-5-12 passes both.

I'm going to work with Mushkin to get another set of memory, becuase changing the motherboard is a pain in the ars. I do have another 7 GA-P35-DS3P's here to try if swapping the memory does not work.

Once I get the memory straightened out I m going for the [H]cp stability bench test. If it passes THAT, I'll consider it 100% stable

This is the test....condensed and ripped from [H]ardOcp.com

    Run the following:
Prime95 (in duplicate for single core cpus and triplicate for Dual Core) [Or Orthos+ Prime95] for the CPU and RAM, IOMeter for the hard drive, and a looped 3DMark2006 for the RAM and GPU. All of the applications are run simultaneously for 24 hours. We feel it’s a good way to stress the components and simulate use of the system over a long period of time since it works all components at 100% for the duration of the test. It also allows us to find any defects in the build, as a weak component is likely to be exposed during our torture session.

I've had nothing but great results with the new dq6 bios with my e6850 im at 3.7 orthos stable 4 hours I didnt even try to take it up more after 4 hours remained 51c. LOL my brother has the same setup though he kept failing till he took out his x-fi card. I dont know what it is with the dq6's I had issues not being able to overclock with the onboard sound he couldnt with an x-fi card. my b-inspire works great lol I still havent pushed my memory to its capabilities Im running under rated speed.

Once i hit 400FSB CPU-Z and everest report that the slot is running at x1 mode. The crappy framerates while playing games confirms this. I'm currently running 399FSB as this speed allows the overclock i wanted and the use of my PCI-E slot at full speed along with the extreme performance memory mode.

    I'm running 8 X 400 (memory ratio at 2.0) with a G0 Q6600. F5 bios introduced some new memory strapping, it may cause the x1 PCI-E issue...

I'm running a Q6600 at 3200MHz at the moment with GA-P35-DS3P. Here's my bios setting:
    - CPU Clock Ratio [8]
    - CPU Host Clock Control [Enable]
    - CPU Host Frequency [400]... 8X400 = 3200!
    - C.I.A. 2 [Disable]
    - System Memory Multiplier (SPD) [2]... This is the tricky part; [2] set the memory speed ratio at 1:2 to the CPU Host Frequency (2x400 = 800 MHz), [2.5] will be 1:2.5 which set the memory speed at 1025MHz (You need very good RAM to run at this speed!
    - High Speed DRAM DLL Setting [Option 1]
    - DRAM Timing Selectable [Manual]... You can use [Auto] to use RAM default RAS/CAS
    :
    :
    :

I can't seem to overclock with 4x1GB in my P35-DQ6. When the computer restarts I just see my LEDs flicker quite often with 4x1GB. It doesn't do this with 2x1GB.

When I cold boot I don't need to worry about this as it just goes straight to post, but when changing overclocks, the computer shuts off, and doesn't reboot all the time with 4x1GB.

Maybe F5 bios will fix this.
