EDIT:...checked the actual load vcore from the board and it is 1.43v...actually, like 1.428v
Thats really good. It sucks about the vdroop on this board. I gotta get the mod done once I muster up the challenge. Thats about the same droop that uguru reports on my board and last I checked uguru vcore was dead on with the multimeter reading from the board.Thats still really good for a quad.

just be aware that the 1066 strap makes a bit more difficult to maximize your overclock...try it at 1:1 or 1:1.20 settings...those two are the 1333 memory strap settings.

    as i thought, 485 FSB is a "big" challenge...hehehe...i am going to stay at 480 X 8= 3840 Mhz.

i agree, this chip is doing great...i just got in my Ultima 90 heatsink...i'm going to set that up tonight after my workout.

i have been thinking about the mod myself...i'll definitely need to practice first...i need a new low power soldering iron so i don't remove the resistor...LOL

Just gone back to the sound card for a bit more practice.

Mistakes I can spot. Wire Shields should be closer to the ends of the resistor legs. Just dropped a couple of gloops of super glue over those solders.

Globule of solder on the far right IC a bit big. Globule on the left could do with a snip just at the end.

Difference in what I'm doing now. I'm tinning the ends of the wires first. The wires are smaller and off a CD IDE cable.

As I say I did initially post over at the Xmods section, but haven't had a reply in what 12 hours+.

The solder does seem to stick a lot easier on this card than the motherboard though.

    Cheers

A bit off topic but does anyone know how likely it is to get a G0 Q6600 from newegg or zipzoomfly? They have cheaper shipping options than clubit which has G0 guaranteed and tankguys (they have no stock anyway).

I don't mind to go with a B3 I'm just looking at prices and if I can save a bit of cash on a risk then I'll risk. I'm not looking for an uber overclock. 400x8 would be fine for me 24/7. I can benefit from 4cores and extra overclock Mhz speed really won't make or break my day.

is a 15 watt iron too much you guys think? should i get a 10 watt?

also iw as just told not to use rosin core solder at all, but silver bearing solder.

I think someone who has done this mod succesfully should share the knowledge with a small guide in mods forum=]

Would be nice. 24 hours and still nothing in the Vmod thread.

I used the silver compound(is that the right word), and a 20 watt iron. No longer than 2-3 secs over the IC.

Just a few links I bookmarked

Got to take the board out today, so may well have another go.

Like this idea for the VR. Wires maybe not the best to work with though. Tested the ends with a MM and it's fine.

To quote Johnny Bravo who kindly found the mod. "620-650 ohms seems to work best"

Yes , a 1K. (followed the johnny bravo mod)

I get into bios ( window µguru voltage monitoring) and turn the VR till I get the same value as the one I choose in the bios.
