    Nice dude.

I am pretty sure that I used the correct driver... but at one point during the install... when you hit the 's' key to pick the one to install.. it had 3 options. The first was to install a ARCH raid (the other type of raid.. don't know what it is called) driver that is for the Intel. At the end of that option said - (ICH9H Desktop). The third option was to install the Intel SATA driver that was also for ICH9H, but it did not say it was for desktop.

I picked the third one because it was the only one that had SATA.

i think you should have selected the AHCI driver.

this is the driver i used to install my raid setup:

May I ask if you ever had to press 's' during the setup of the driver in order to pick the one you wanted installed?

It just seem odd that I had to do that.

but I think I could have skipped that part.

Time to break down my array.

this is the one you should select after selecting "S":

    iaStor_ICH8R = "Intel(R) 82801HR/HH/HO SATA RAID Controller (Desktop ICH8R)"

I will have to test your driver and the first option in the setup over the weekend. A format during school would get me killed by my parents.

ICH8R is the same as ICH9R..maybe minor differences...but the logic is the same for raid.

Ace. I'm about to change computers and download HDtune and see what it shows. I learned about disabling the cach-write back via the Matrix Storage manager from someone on overclockers. I was getting crappy throughput until I changed that setting. Honestly, I don't think the burst speed will reduce that much from what I posted earlier through hdtach. I'll post it on this same post #1765 within an hour or so.

here it is. I was refering to this thread about the write-back cache enabled (after installing matrix raid manager) here:http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=512211&page=10

    3 x new 7200.10's in raid (ip35)

if you are using at least 2 drives in raid 0, you shouldn't get crappy throughput...it has to mean that you are using the wrong driver to install during operating system install setup....or you fail to install the matrix driver after getting into windows desktop.

meh went to radioshack because fry was to far. Just bought a cheapo iron. a .015 dia tip spare, standard rosin core solder, its kinda of thick. I need get to frys they have so much more. Might pic up a hakko, iam sure its a better solder iron.

and the resistor! radioshack has always been crap, but man they had nothing hardly..no except a 20kohm variable resistor...its gonna be a hunt!

Heres some screen shots of my Areca 1231 ML Raid Controller with 1GB Cache on both EVGA 680i A1 and Abit IP35 Pro talk about a kick in the nuts on Burst speed dropping down to X4 Signal Very nice Board though

Had a go at the vmod last night, and embarrassed to say I failed. Note: I have done quite a bit of reading up beforehand.

Did a bit of a test run on an old sound card, soldering wires to various ic's and that went okay. However on my motherboard I just can't get the solder to stick.

Any of you guys who have successfully got it together, got any tips?

    Much appreciated.

    RLM.

ps. I have posted in the Xtreme mods/motherboards section, but I don't know how many of you read over there.
