That slimline mod lookss soo awesome....did it actually lower temps? How did you make the hole the right shape? I have a dremel for making metal panel holes but I have no idea how to make a smooth rectangle in the plastic.

I wish I could do that but I need DVDRW etc and the slims dont have anything as good as the LGs. But it is my only 5.25 and I am wasting the rest of that air flow

Brian - what did you do with the side panel? Is it open or did you find something to cover it?

Depends on how silly clean you want it and who good you are.

    Should last 8 Times.

Just open the door and blast it. I sometimes just leave the comp on and the fans remove the dust from the case.

Well the case is already very cold even on low settings so I don't think it's gonna post much colder.

FOR THOSE THAT WANT THE THIRD FAN WITHOUT THE MODIFICATION.

Buy the third HDD Holder from Antec and a 5.25" IDE USB 2.0 Box.

USB 2.0 is faster than IDE, you get the same savings plus you don't have to power it.

8 times isn't half bad. Thanks

I am doing a lil something with the 900s too....

Here's one of several I am doing...

    another variant

That's an Areca 1210 running 4 74GB Raptors in HW RAID5...fast as stink

I use filters behind the fans...

Raptors are mounted on Scythe AV mounts.

And a 140mm hole so you can flip the PSU if you mount to...

Hiding the spaghetti off a PC Power Quad Silencer is no easy task.

That's 1/2" acrylic fused to the face frame

Polishing is a fairly long process...but worth it in the end.

I signed up on these forums just to give a big thanks to bjp999 for that awesome post. I ordered the 900 yesterday, and after reading this, went out and bought a dremel...Thanks so much!

Cyberdruid, that is some really sweet plexi work, you've got good talent.

Nice job Jelly...might consider trimming back the silver tape a bit around the edges, but otherwise it looks good

what exactly do you mean by trimming back the silver tape?

uncle says its fine, i have a bad feeling about it. should i be
    worried?

You use tape to protect wires from the sharp edges of the case. As long as they aren't damaged you should be fine. However, I am a little worried looking at how close the tape is to the motherboard. If the glue loses its adhesive properties the tape could come in contact with the motherboard. That might cause a short circuit. I'd say, cut a small piece off of that piece of tape. Maybe that's what he meant by "trimming back". The pieces of tape are larger than necessary.

Is there a mod for the 900 without any drilling experience? Also, I'd hate to chop up my new 900

Why don't you check out post #71.
    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...6&postcount=71

If you make most of your holes under the motherboard, no one will see them. Also if you cut a single large hole to get the cables behind the motherboard tray, you’re less likely to make a mistake. You might even be able to locate it behind the PSU.

    OLD

    NEW

redid mine. i made one of the holes bigger, and then added another. it
doesnt really look much better, but it was a lot easier to do this time.
i dunno if if was because my holes made it easier, or just because
the second time is always easier than the first. oh well, i like how it
    came out.

i plan to get some 120mm fans and replace that loud ass 80mm under the vid
card. hopefully ill get the courage to lap the heatsink and cpu by then.

I wonder if it would be a good idea to reverse the power supply fans? Right now you're fighting convection. Although the best idea would be to do what CyberDruid did and cut a hole in the bottom of the case and flip the PSU.

I doubt the difference in height from the top to the bottom of the PSU leads to much of a differential in pressure. Since the top case fan is probably more than adequate removing hot air from the top of the case, the PSU fan is probably functioning primarily to cool the PSU. In this case, convection is probably helping the process.
