Asus P5K Premium may be the right board for the QuadCore Mania

Since we are in a QuadCore Mania, after the Q6600 huge drop of price, I decide to mount my "old" QX6700 B3 on the P5K Premium to see how it goes with QuadCores.

    Setup:
    - P5K Premium
    - TuniqTowe
    - Sesonic S12 Energy+ 650W

Beginig with the FSB, as you can see the P5K Premium can do 480FSB quite easy.

    And now the inevitable Cinebench:

    11 segs - 2000 CB-CPU marks - piece of cake

And finally one of my favorite challanges with QuadCores Air Cooled: the 4x4x4 - 4 SuperPI's simultaneus, in the 4 Cores (one on each core) at 4 Ghz ...

I did it, altought we are here in Portugal in very hot summer day.

OK, for Q6600 Maniacs its just a matter of doing the maths - 480Mhz quite easy and full stable so 9x480 - 4.320Mhz - Asus P5K Premium may be the right board for the QuadCore Mania

Please note I'm using the old revision (B3) new revision (G0) seems to achieve higher FSB's and, apparently, produce much less heat.

I wonder how it compares to the blitz formula, also how the striker is doing on quads with the newest bios?

...and the %age of q6600's dat will do higher than 3.6 on air is?
    qx6700 is not a q6600.
480x7 more likely for a q6600 on air.

    ...wish i had yr cpu

More or less the same BUT (and that's a big but) with the QX6700 overcloked the P5K Deluxe became unstable and start to crash due to the excessive heat on PWM and choke area (pass 100ºC )

That is the major advgantage of the P5K Premium : new componentes (Nikos Mosfets, TRIO 1R1 Inductor and Solid-Alu-C's) make those areas and components much more fresh ..thus the motherboard much more stable. Specially with QuadCores of course.

How come the option to enable SATA-Bootrom when raid is enabled is missing from the bios.....yay Asus

Also whats with the double pump bootup after a cold start when power has been turned off from the mobo....yay Asus

Hope they get on the ball and fix these issues with a bios update because there bloody anoying, ffs not being able to enable one of your raid setups to be bootable is just pathetic.

    25s on 1M pi???
With the price difference being so small the people that we're in the market for a P5K Dlx should get a Premium
Pedro will you also make a mini-review from that PSU like you said in the portuguese forum??

    Very interesting thread.
I'm already quite satisfied with the OC-ability from my P5K-Dlx & Q6600 G0 but it looks like the P5K premium is going to take the overclocking potential of your hardwares up another level....very tempted in getting the premium to replace the deluxe

I hope the new P5K-Premium will take 4x1GB ram's OC-ability higher and more stable than P5K-Dlx.
P5K-Deluxe doesn't really shine in the 4x1GB ram OC area but other than that, it does everything an OC enthusiast ask for.

Good to see that the Premium for this chipset is a worthwhile board, as opposed to the P5B Premium, which wasn't worth much of anything.

I think I'm going to agree with the OP on this board. I just tried 8x481, 8x480, and 8x475 using up to 1.58 vcore I couldn't get them stable under my qx6700 B3 and p5k deluxe. with the price being the same with the deluxe and Premium the Premium wins!

How does the P5K Premium do compared to the abit IP-35 Pro?

I think the P5K Premium/Deluxes are overpriced for what they offer, in terms of sheer FSB prowess, compared to the IP-35 Pro which is going for $139.99 AR on Newegg right now.
