A little help and advice please?

Over here in the UK were definatly not getting any G0 CPU`s for sale for a while yet, so all our quad cpu`s are B3 still..
Ive bought an entire rig to build! with the exception of the CPU... the last thing i need and i was pretty certain about buying the Q6600 after the price drops...
Over here the Q6600 can be had for around £170....... but after reading about this x3210 cpu i did a little searching and managed to find somewhere with them for £145... i know its only a £25 saving..... and tbh im not to botherd about saving money i just want the best chip out of the 2.... so which would u reccomend?? both will be B3 cpu`s... should i just go for the Q6600 or try the X3210?

i know the X3210 is clocked lower at stock... but i assume that they should both overclock to pretty much the same ? i bought a 120 extreme HS to help with the cooling .. and 4 gig of PC8500 ballistix so high FSB wont be a problem .. also a P5K deluxe mobo...

please help? never had intel b4... plus been a while since i did any overclocking... last time was with my old xp2500 mobile cpu

Pros: hands down best bang for your buck quad-core! this G0 X3210 is unbelievable in terms of overclocking potential. I currently have this running at 3.5ghz stable (9x385) with a P35 board and TR U-120 extreme hsf, and load temps are around 61C

    See something wrong? X3210 is X8 385x8 = 3080

Actually, now I can get up to 419FSB. I've been running at 3.77ghz on the Q6600 for the past three days.

    Voltages are set at
    1.6425 vCore
    1.65 vMCH
    2.35 vMem
    1.5 vICH IO
    1.2 vICH
and CPU VTT is set as high as it goes. I don't remember if it's 1.5v or 1.6v.

    anyone order from here?

    http://www.provantage.com/intel-bx80...0~4ITEP2HA.htm

i've been watching their stock. they had 100+ a few days ago... then only 4 by the end of yesterday, and today they have 80+ (at the time I checked).

anyone want to take a gamble and order one from them?

i'd try newegg but paying tax is a deal breaker for me.

Just found this... X3210 G0 (SLACU) $269 + free shipping.

A bit more expensive than other sies, but the only one I've seen specifically listing the G0 stepping so far... on the other hand, it's only $5 more than NewEgg but guaranteed G0 stepping.

lol talking about high temperatures, My Xeon 3210 loaded at ~65s with 1.32v @ 3.4 on watercooling, so this is normal.

SP33DFR34K, i get around the same temps as you.. i guess maybe something is wrong with our xeon's?? I have remounted my block countless times... I have to use 1.48v just to get to 3.4ghz.. Lower volts I can get a little lower temp but not as high a speed. Because of what Eddie said I thought that maybe I had bubbles in my rad, not true I found out. So I think there is maybe a very bad contact between the cores and the IHS. SP33DFR34K and my temperatures are way too high . I am thinking of ordering a Q6600 G0 and selling this on ebay.

BTW my setup is Apogee GT(bowed), Silverprop Fusion HL on my 2900XT, MCR320, and MCP655.

My X3210's IHS was extremly concave, so I lapped it and get nearly 70C at 1.6vcore at load now. This pic is after a few strokes of lapping.

I would only lap the processor if I know I can get more out of my processor. The temperatures don't bother me that much unless it is limiting my overclock.

Temperatures always limit my overclock, i know that my X3210 can go for more, but the heat is just too much...

You don't appear to have a full grasp of the concepts of overclocking. Heat is THE limiting factor for all of us.

You are just repeating what i said above... Btw, sometimes your CPU,Ram,Motherboard or PSU could be a factor that limits you. So, something new?
