Here are the results of Speedfan VS. CoreTemp. Disregard the Freq in Core Temp, its wrong. After seeing this, I dropped the OC back to 3.2ghz. So its running at 44c idle at 3.2ghz. I need a better cooler.

    Processor: i7-920 - Batch#3910A418 - No OC
    Temps: Full 4 Core Load-XXc, Idle-23c

Looking at the temps, Speedfan is off by 15C. You can make adjustments to correct this.

if the reviews dont back swiftech up, ill pick up the mid-range petra kit and beat high end air anyways.

with my ambient temps i have no choice.
I didnt know there was a 220 version, but I wouldnt feel comfortable having a pump directly mounted to my cpu.

go with an ultra-120 or else go water.

i think this chip is gonna get me to go water to fight summer, as ive made obvious in this thread. i am just eager to find the limits of this puppy and go nuts with it

glad to see you toned it down, dont wanna harm these pretty chips.

i agree. i would like to have faith in swiftech based on their reputation for sure.

but, petras mid-range kit is plan B.

either that or i have to wait till i move out of here. a guy at hardforums has his chip at 3.5 and getting higher with decent watercooling and his temps are crazy cool. right now his ds3 is holding him back....ive been watchin a lot of forums about this G0 chip. tiramisu has a long thread going there as well. his chip is the benchmark right now! it kicks ass and takes name.s

Here is the link I used to make adjustments. You can also rename AUX and SYSTEM to Board and MCP if you have a 680i. Lots of good information here.

If you want the short version:

"Click the Configure Button again and select the Advanced Tab. Click the Chip combobox button and select the INTEL CORE at $0 on ISA and set the Value to 15 for both items being sure to enable the remember me checkbox each time. This sets a 15C offset to the Core temps so they match my personal expectation of what the reported full load core temperatures should be." I would think you set this for each core.

"Next select the Winbond W83627DUG at $290 on ISA in the top combobox ....Next set the Temperature offset 1 Value to (minus) -93 , Temperature offset 2 Value to 0, and Temperature offset 3 Value to 12. These values are the offsets that will be added to Board, CPU and MCP temperatures, as I have named them. These offsets were choose to mimic the temperatures with the same names as shown in the bios.

"click the Configure button and select the Fans Tab. For each of the fans you wish to monitor their speed, enable it"s checkbox. Place your mouse cursor on each label to select it and press the F2 key and rename each fan as you desire, you may also drag each up or down with your mouse left button to arrive at your desired order for the display.

No big deal, really. In case you missed it earlier in the thread and since you have CoreTemp 0.95 now... go into the settings/options and enable the "Show Delta to Tjunction" option... that shows you how far you have until the cpu throttles itself. As long as you have a healthy delta there, you're good to go.

@chriskurn what are your load temps (mid to high 60s?) What cooling are you using and did you lap the HS and chip?

Don't feel bad. It's call SUMMER TIME BLUES for us overclockers on air. My E6600 is running at 46C on idle inside the hottest room in my house.

Tiramisu, how much air are you pushing through that Ultra 120 X? I have a XP-120 on my Opteron and a G0 from NCIX on the way (hopefully as good as yours), I'm not sure if I should try it with the XP-120 first and then go water if necessary, or order an Ultra. I would like to stay with air if possible (I won't be running 100% load very often) but I hate loud fans and if reasonable temps on the Ultra 120 require a loudass fan then water it is.
To your question, the answer to this and if possible any others are all in my sig.

I know exactly how you feel. My system temp is 30c right now and I've being priming all day today. Load temp just touched 70c at my current highest stable OC at 3744mhz 1.4560v Prime small fft load. Summer days ambient temp is definetely our worst enemy for air coolers..

But nevertheless, as long as it's running stable and the delta value is healthy, there's nothing we need to worry about. Given that the voltage is also healthy

    My Q6600 B3

    3.4Ghz

I got it up to 3.5Ghz but 3DMark06 wouldn't complete. How far can I push the CPU volt? I had it as high as 1.4850 but still would do 3.5Ghz on 3DMark. It would boot up to windows fine though. Notice the cool temps .. it gets as high as 36 degrees .. haven't seen anything higher.

unknownZA have you tried dropping the multiplier, if you got to 8 and still get stuck at the same fsb then its the motherboard not the processor and you could try a much higher fsb at 8 and see if there is hole around 380 (i know there was on earlier bios's on teh pw5dh with dual cores, havent tried with quad and will likely be getting a different board for my g0 q6600 which is due in around the 8th).

jkresh, well I know if I used the automatic overclocking in the bios(I think 30%) then I got 416Mhz on the memory. It only gave me a 3Ghz OC though. Can't remember what the multiplier was ... was my early days of overclocking.
possible to use more volts? i.e. 1.5v and over for the CPU? How risky is it? My temps are pretty good, Max. 36 that i've seen.

Check you temps with coretemp not pcprobe, if as long as you are under 70 at full load you could probably up the voltage a little. I wouldnt go much higher then 1.5 on air (depending on how long you want to keep the chip), ie it might last 1 year at 1.65 v on air if temps are ok, but 3-4 at 1.5 and 10 years at 1.3 (all are random guess but voltage does decrease life expectancy of a cpu) so its up to you. How long do you need the cpu to last and how upset would you be if you fried it. My e6600 has been folding (or otherwise at 100&#37 for a year at 3.4ghz at 1.65 v and I am not having any problems, but I am on high end water, and once i get the Q the e6600 will be moved to a media center and probably dropped to highest stable oc at stock volts on a quit air cooler.

SpeedFan 4.32 assumes the maximum Tjunction temperature for the Q6600 is 85C and CoreTemp 0.95 assumes 100C.

Reported Temp = TjMax - Digital Thermal Sensor reading

A 15C difference in the assumed TjMax results in reported temperatures that are different by exactly 15C.

Motherboard bios temps are meaningless. Stick to either one of the above programs and you can set a 15C offset in SpeedFan to correct for the error in assumed TjMax by clicking on Configure -> Advanced:

You lucky Quad guys will have to enter in 4 offsets.

    Damn nice informative guide!

Never enough thanks to all the useful and helpful replies you've made everytime !

Now my speed fan core temp readings are EXACTLY the same as coretemp0.95.

XtremeTiramisu: If you post links to images instead of the entire image when you do a post then you save bandwidth and you might keep the bandwidth police happy.

Looks like your fan club has grown since you started overclocking the snot out of your new G0 Q6600. Congratulations.

Everyone loves your hard work except PhotoBucket so you better switch over to ImageShack instead. We need to be able to see all those great screen shots you've been posting.

FYI: The Quads have eliminated the diode that used to be read and displayed as CPU temperature in SpeedFan and many bioses used to read this diode as well to report the CPU temperature. Without a diode anymore, these readings are meaningless.

Anyone that wants to confirm this should read the Intel datasheet for more info:

Looks like your fan club has grown since you started overclocking the snot out of your new G0 Q6600. Congratulations.

Everyone loves your hard work except PhotoBucket so you better switch over to ImageShack instead. We need to be able to see all those great screen shots you've been posting.
    Thanks to both of you.
    Imageshack FTW indeed

Just what you've said in your last sentence Unclewebb...I'll make the move now. It's gonna be a pain in the arse though..

4GHz Quad just for the fun of it. Notice that the voltage doesn't need to go through the roof to acheive this clock

Here is the CPU-Z Validation. With the amount of given voltage, it's enough to do some easy tasks beside Priming of course.

3744 MHz with low volts and Prime stable for 7+ hours no problem
