    Q6600 VID values

    I've seen different VID values in different threads in here. For example, see this thread. Of the people posting screenshots of their new G0 stepping Q6600s, I have seen several that show a VID of 1.2750v and one with a VID of 1.2625v. My B3 Q6600 gives a VID of 1.2875v.

    1) What is the VID value?
    2) Is it dynamic or fixed?
    3) How does one change it?

    Regarding chip's VID:

    This is what I've answered in another forum for someone who asked the same questions on VID:
    VID is also one thing that we can take into account to determine the chip's overclocking-ability in the later stages. Lower VID almost always means that the overclocking room will be more. Bcos you started off with a lower Vcore at stock clock, your chip may ended up requiring much less volts to acheive the desire clock than another chip that has a higher VID than yours at the same clock. Lower volts required to obtain your desired clock speed may also mean lower temp.

    However, keep this in mind though, although I'm stating this all based on facts and statistics but this still doesn't guarantee the OC outcome in every case, just so you know


    I remember back then I was having my first C2D and it's possibly the worst lucky draw ever by all means - E6600 and VID 1.35000 (newer batch..yeah) and need at least 1.55v+++ to get 3.2GHZ and stuck. horrible

    another another E6700 VID a little better at 1.2750 and does 3.6ghz and then stuck.

    Now the current E6700 - Semi Golden chip that has 1.2500vid does as what you see in my first post first page. 3.73ghz at 1.41v load! awsome.

    So you're saying the VID is the stock voltage for a given chip and that the VID can vary from chip-to-chip?

    speaking from my own experience.
    I've own 3 C2D in the past and Q6600 G0 is my 4th chip this year.

    OK... was your's the G0 Q6600 with a VID=1.2625?

    Mine is also 1.2625

    I believe Intel test each processor on a given speed then specify a VID needed for stable operations at a given speed. If a die is performing very good, less VID is given because it can run fine. On the other hand, for a poor die, a bigger VID is given.

    When we look at http://processorfinder.intel.com/det...px?sSpec=SLACR under Core voltage, we can see a range. If we are hunting for a golden G0 Q6600, we should find one with a very low VID but I guess this is rare as good ones is usually used for better cpu (QX6850 as example).

    just cuz stock volt is lower don't mean nothing, not all cpus scale the same. that's just the way stuffworks, example. my cpu can run 2.6ghz @ 1.4 v's but i need 1.612 for 2.71ghz. i don't care how long the chip lasts and i don't care that it's ultra low voltage at 1.2 v's stock, i dun wanna hear it lol. almost makes me kind wanna drop the volts and run the ram higher lol.

    Hmmm...Just rcv'd my B3 from Clubit. Pack date of 7-11-07 and it has a VID of 1.192v...So far have it at 335x9 at stock volts running F@H (all 4 cores). 4 Hours so far no probs...Temps at 52C with Zalman 9700 at full speed.

    I find myself wondering if there is a better chance to get a good VID if you buy an x3220 (xeon) instead of the q6600?

    When you check your VID, make sure to either turn EIST off or put your CPU under load...

    @chronoreverse - I don't think that's true... I have tried it on mine and it's always the same. I believe the VID is hardcoded to the chip and mean the "stock" vcore for stock settings.
