    Disabling core

On i965 the only way to do this is to edit boot.ini and add "/numproc=1" (or by msconfig, the same - numproc=1 in boot options).

Another thing: anyone had issues with latest (1302 or 1301, I don't remember ATM) BIOS with RAM clocking non-that-high? Yesterday I was testing Corsair Dominator 10000 (1250 5-5-5-18 @ 2,4V) and I couldn't boot with 1250 5-5-5-18 with 2,6V (or with 2,4V etc, other frequencies also tried). I think it is BIOS related - anyone can confirm?
    {Edit: it seems that it was RAM fault - Crucial Ballistix was working with 1250 and higher 5-5-5-15 @ 2,35V with no problems...}

But be aware of this BIOS - since it has some new microcodes {useless, the CPUs boots absolutely the same under older BIOS, any change is that "CPU uCode Error" isn't showing} it is impossible to downgrade to older BIOS - IMHO You shall not flash to 1301 if it is not really needed .

BIOS 1302 supporting G0 chips, seems to need a slight bump in Vcore to run at previously stable o'c but it still works good so far.

    Got my retail E6750 today!

Temps are unbelievably low running at 3.2GHz but both Speedfan and Coretemp give me the same values so I am not sure if they can be trusted at all. Esp. since I am running on air using just a SI-120 and a TT Blue LED fan. My old E6300@3.3 same Vcore was hitting 70C during Orthos.

may be stable at even lower Vcore, I usually start off o'cing at 1.45v for this droopy mobo.

    Update
1.40v BIOS is also OK, lowering it further kills Orthos

I don't mean to brag or anything but I'm seriously going to buy either E6850 or Q6600 G0 on/after July 22nd. However I'm leaning a bit more towards the E6850 since it'll run cooler than Q6600 G0 becouse I'm on air (check my sig).
My E6700 is my 3rd C2D this year and its VID is 1.2500v and at stock voltage it could get Orthos stable up to around 3.33ghz!
At 3.6Ghz like you, I was using roughly the same voltage, 1.38v or less
at 3.73Ghz, I can get it stable with only ~1.42v under load.
Thanks to P5K-Dlx's "voltage damper" so I only have very little vdroop.

I'm expecting the E6850/E6750 to do much better than my current semi-golden E6700, I hope..

sorry, but that's one good chip. if you can sell it currently and be able to not use any money in the process, then it might be a worthy upgrade, seeing how some places are selling 6750/6850 already. But if it'll still cost you in the end, I don't know..

    First startup with E6750 possible?

Will the Commando run with the E6750 on original BIOS (or any older BIOS if that is all you can tell me now).

I would appreciate if somebody can try this (If you can run BIOS setting screen or run EZ-Flash with original/older BIOS & E6750) because I don't have a CPU yet and I would like to buy the E6750 to start with for my Asus Commando.

I know there is no guarantee that E6750 is supported with original BIOS but who doesn't want to buy one of these new CPU instead of having to buy an old one first (E6600 or alike).

I am not positive but I remember hearing something about 1333 CPUs running on 1066 boards. Not sure if they needed a BIOS update to do it though. Probably do.

BIOS upgrading with new 1333 FSB CPU

    Thank you.
To clarify what I meant, I just want to be able to run EZ-Flash 2 (included in BIOS) at startup so that I can replace the original BIOS with the new one (without having access to an "old" CPU).

Of course I will run all software (except EZ-Flash the first time) with an updated BIOS once this is done.

Asus doesn't tell wich CPUs support this "first time" boot up with original BIOS (0601).

Obviously the Commando (including software) works with E6850 (post 40) and BIOS 0803 (post 41) in the thread you provided me. http://forums.hardwarezone.com/showt...=commando+0803

I guess I will have to try if this works myself to get the answer.

Seems it might work with some good luck but
    -------------------------------
    Version 0601 2006/12/25 update
    Description
    Commando BIOS 0601 release
    Initial Release
    File Size 802.06 (KBytes)
    -------------------------------
    Version 0702 2007/01/19 update
    Description
    Commando release BIOS 0702
    1. Fix VTT voltage too high under PC probe when O.C. FSB beyond 381
    2. Finetune code for AC Power loss function
    3. Fix DDR ref voltage too low after S3 resume
    4. Support x4 DIMM modules
    File Size 802.19 (KBytes)
    -------------------------------
    Version 0803 2007/02/07 update
    Description
    Commando Release BIOS 0803
    1. Fix DRAM Frequency not correct during POST
    2. Fix system may sometimes hang when changing DRAM mode
    3. Modify FSB/DRAM default from 1333/667 to 1333/833 when using Conroe E0 CPU /OK, the lower (old) DRAM default (667 MHz) should be better for me since I have Corsair 800 MHz RAM not 833 MHz/
    4. Enhance RAM compatibility under 4 DIMM configuration with CONROE E0 CPU /OK, I will only use 2 DIMM modules./
    5. Support CONROE E0 CPU(FSB 1333) /NOOO, does this mean you can not run 1333 FSB CPUs with older BIOS?/
    File Size 802.76 (KBytes)
    ----------------------------------

I have some gut feeling that there is no coincidence that the posted Commando with E6850 was done with BIOS 0803.

I'm experiencing very frustrating lockups in the BIOS and in DOS (Ghost 2003). I'm using the latest 1404 BIOS and a Logitech Media Pro Keyboard. I tried another keyboard (Logitech Internet Keyboard) with the same results. I've tried all the different settings for Legacy USB in the BIOS as well. This problem occurs whether my system is oc'ed or at the BIOS defaults--it makes absolutely no difference. I never have any USB problems at all in XP, only in DOS and the BIOS.

    Any clues?

Also, does anyone know how to flash back to an earlier BIOS? I tried every method I know of but none will work, and this includes EZ Flash, ASUS Update, and AFUDOS. On an old ASUS board I had I just used an earlier version of ASUS Update. Don't think I can do that here though. It upsets me why ASUS imposes this.

The only way I can revert back to older bios's is get your asus commando cd and on there you will find a bios, if I remember correclty it is called COMMAMDO.ROM use afudos and revert to that bios then install one of the newer bios's of you choice, easy process.

    EDIT:

I am still using 0803, I updated to 1001 a while back and for some strange reason after one boot of Windows it would just get stuck at boot screen there after. Going to download latest and give it a shot, will post back shortly.

you can try with older bios to see if it's compatible. it might not post. it might post with error code but let you proceed. or it might just display unknown and proceed seemlessly
