Pentosin & PT's UV Dye - Comparitive tests

So I was building a small encloure packed full of UV cathodes and Led's for a friend (It's going to serve as a blacklight/display stand for a bottle filled with UV dye and water). As I wired it all together and sat on my floor, I remembered I was sitting next to a box full of all my new WC supplies.

So, seeing as I was looking for something to do before a 7pm-2am shift at work, I decided to compare the effects and combination of UV dye and Pentosin coolant additive.

    The results are as follows:

    From Brightest to Weakest:
    1. Pentosin G11 + Dye (In Water)
    2. Dye (In Water)
    3. %100 Pentosin G11
    4. Pentoisn G11 (In Water)

So the most common use (G11+Water) is the weakest of the combinations... Not a surprise really.

    Anyways, Some pictures for comparison:

Water and UV Dye (Diluted to the proper level):

    %100 Pentosin G11

Water and Pentosin G11 (Diluted to the proper level)

Blue Pentosin G11 and Petra'sTech Blue UV Dye (Diluted to the proper level):

Some last minute fun with a Bawls bottle and UV Dye.

Dilution levels were determined using a 1 Liter bottle; With 1 part Pentosin G11 to 9 parts water; And one drop of UV Dye per Liter.

Great information, thanks for doing the research it is much appreciated

The difference one drop of UV dye makes is quite surprising and I highly doubt that it would make a difference in temperatures.

    The last picture looks awesome

Awesome, now if only I had seen this a few months ago...

Thanks for the comparison. It obviously really makes a difference to use actual UV Cathodes and not LED's... my tests with UV die were not very sucessfull... in order for anything to glow I had to use so much dye that the water was naturally the color of the die... not the effect I was going for...

Awesome, thank you. I just finished my loop with G11 at 5% and a bit underwhelmed, so I'm going to get some of that dye.

I see at Petra's they say to dilute to preference and only a couple of drops are needed.

What concentration of the UV dye did you use??

I used one drop per Litre, Though I'm sure you could add as much as you want. The thing is, The Blue dye is actually green, Until it is diluted throughout the liquid. So too much would make you loop green.

Chances are they will reply on on the next business day, IE Monday Sept 31st.

However do be aware they usually take a little more time with international orders due to the large volume of them. (Or so ive heard)

By the way, I used this thread to make my G11 + PT blue dye combo and it worked out great

Only I ended up adding about 20 drops to my loop to get it glowing where I wanted it.

Does the G11+Distilled 1:9 ratio look blue in regular light? In other words, in natural light, does the water have a nice blue color to it?

I'm trying to avoid using any additional dyes mainly because I'm paranoid about them leaving deposits in my loop, but I'd like the water to have a nice blue color, similar to the wink face or the question mark at the upper left corner of this post.

Yeah it does have a nice blue color in natural light. It doesn't quite have the same effect hydrx does in regular light, but it's still a nice color...just not as pronounced.

Can't you also just grab some standard pet store biocide and use that?

I'm late by a day, But yes, you can aquatic biocides. Before I used PTNuke (Or had even heard of Petra's) I walked into Petsmart and asked the guy in the fish department:

"What additive would you suggest if I wanted to make the water completely inhabitable to all types of life?"

    "Um, like, fish?"

    "No."

    "... People?"

"NO. To kill algae. And sure, why not, fish too"

    "Well, There is this stuff.."

He pointed me to a bottle of "No More Algae", Which had a logo smaller then the warning precautions. It's a mix of Diuron & copper sulfate pentahydrate. So it's basicaly PTnuke + some Diuron (Which is not only a biocide, But a potent carcinogen and sterilizing agent, Among other things). The downside is that "Other Ingredients" make up %99.28 of the mixture, and it is a cloudy and foam procuring mixture. It worked well for me, But I started using PTnuke, That worked fine, And it just might spare me my fertility.

Anyways, If you are looking for a biocide, the prime ingredient you want is copper sulphate pentahydrate.

Heh heh, that's all I use, and only 2 drops per loop. With the amount I use per loop, it leaves the loop clear and clean.
