personally i would "never" have gone Abit unless they had a half decent working mobo out from day 1 as their bios team is unfotunately not interested in fixing problems people have...........or trying to provide improvements which are much needed but a lot of their customers

lucky for them this mobo seems decent out of the box

looking forward to this one >>>

laff, my last Abit was an IC7-Max3 with a 2.6c@3.25, was a rock in it's day, best part is when I sold it a couple months back I got what I paid for it over 3 years ago

Not sure but I think it was their last best board..

Been Asus and DFI ever since and never as happy as I was with the IC7, until now.

Beta bios 4 fixed my raid problems associated to bios 3.

I have four drive raid 0 and sata cdrom drive now off the same (ICH9R) controller.

this was a sticky and engineers looked into it an all but it was all big arse BS

so from now on if i decide to be silly enough to buy Abit motherboards i'll wait and see what the issues are first before i jump into it because i know Abit will most likely not fix or improve half of things or even more that are needed

Well, honestly the same could be said for any motherboad, from any manufacturer.
I, for example, have had a bad taste left in my mouth from Asus boards, and I don't have a very high opinion of Gigabyte or MSI boards.

of course of course
i am just telling you of my experience
asus i've been happier with on intel side of things at least.

Most things work properly out of the box and bioses are coming in but good luck trying to get asus to implement something you'd like to see in their bioses as well LOL. I would recommend P35 Asus without hesitation that's for sure but the only issue for me is i hate the fact i have to mod the board to get decent vcore and vdimm so i'm going to Abit for these features. Anus also charges too much for their mobos and i like Abit's mobo monitoring features and all that sort of caper....not many do lol........heh

i wouldn't buy gigashyte again....MSI i don't have much experience with

I had commented earlier about the .b03 beta bios causing my Samsung DVD-RW to disappear from Windows Device Manager. To clarify: my IP35 Pro has 3 Seagate SATA hard drives; 2 are in Raid 0, while the 3rd drive is separately bootable. In order for the 3rd drive (when booted in Windows) to be able to read the Raid 0 array drive, it was necessary to install Windows on the single drive while the bios was set to Raid mode, and using F6 floppy driver install for Intel Matrix Raid. However, (contrary to my previous experience with a Gigabyte DS3 board), my SATA DVD drive became unbootable, with the shipping bios is set to Raid mode (both the single HD and the SATA DVD-RW attached to ICH9R ports). I have already sent a report of my unbootable SATA DVD drive (when in Raid mode) to Abit's engineers.

I'm sure that you know that the abit USA forums are user-to-user - yes, some abit staff read then but from what I understand most of the engineers in Taiwan don't understand English.

With all due respect those things aren't necessary for 99.9% of people - you may want them but necessary they are not.
Some maybe weren't possible in BIOS only, some like the 5V for fans or off entirely imo you'll never get.

There is also no doubt in my mind at least that abit pre & post USI are different.

Now I'm not saying that abit are a shining example but having used several Asus, Gigabyte & MSI boards recently as well I wouldn't say that they are any better.
DFI may be as they have an enthusiast in Oskar Wu but he can't do everything & DFI aren't immune to complaints about poor BIOS updates either.

it was never expected for them to sort out everything and implement what's impossible............but at least give it a shot and implement straight forward ones.....and there was a few there....and some alittle trickier ones....

i'm sure language barrier may play a small role but i was told engineers are attending to those as well....i don't think any of those points were addressed at all or the absolute majority was left over still .>> someone correct me if i'm wrong

no change in performance from A01 to B04 bios...i tried B03 but it wasn't any better either...the big change for me is my sata DVD drive is recognized when running Intel Raid....A01 was ok in that department and so is B04.

Sorry BUFF but Abit's bios dept have been on holiday/only working part time for the past year or so...............or might as well have been

The problems with ide optical drives are the same as they were with the AB9's so what the hell is going on

This board (IP35 Pro) is the best Abit have done in the last 18 months out of the box so I am really hoping resources are finally being allocated to where they are most needed for a change..............heres hoping anyway
lots and lots of cores and lots and lots of tuners,HTPC's boards,cases,HDD's,vga's,DDR1&2&3 etc etc all powered by Corsair PSU's

never said or made any pretence that I wasn't a Mod there (albeit only in the last 6 months) however, I too (& the other Mods as none of us work for abit) am unbiased other than in my own personal preferences.
I don't get paid or anything by abit & I buy my own boards whether they are abit, Asus, DFI, Gigabyte or what have you & if you look on other forums you'll often see me recommending various other mfrs boards.

I just think that some of the things that you are asking for are unrealistic.
As I said I'm not holding abit up as a shining example but I honestly don't think that the others are any better.

.
abit either didn't have the expertise or was not interested in XS crowd because those bios settings were what we needed to compete against the benchmark motherboards such as DFI NF4

i give everyone a shot and Abit is a decent company with decent products but i still have the same concerns........anyone can knock up a motherboard for mass market that looks pretty and is half decent.........companies that put extra effort into early adopters and niche markets get their money back through word of mouth on forums such as this......so while numbers are small impact is larger than the actual customer base

why the hell would abit have a USA support forum without any technical staff>>>> is it an arm of their marketing/PR department then

They actually did address a no. of those issues that were raised in that thread & they surprised us all by releasing another AN8 BIOS about a month ago long after we thought that BIOS support for it was finished (especially as strictly speaking it wasn't a product of the current abit company).

As you say in terms of sales volumes XS is a tiny % of the total market albeit influential. I'm not sure that the mfrs actually make a lot of money on their enthusiast mobos - I suspect that it may be the same as GPUs where the top products give a halo effect but the real money is made more middle market.
I don't know if you remember Tony from OCZ talking about the ideal XS user's mobo (re. ATi K8 chipsets), how much it would cost just to manufacture let alone with margins - it was a total non-starter.

Strangely enough users often know their boards well enough to help others out - as here it's more often than not configuration rather than faulty hardware.
afaik both Asus & MSI forums don't have tech staff (& tbh I don't find them as much as a community as the abit forum), Gigabyte don't seem to have a forum that I know of.
Even when DFI Street was around AG/RGone made it very clear that they weren't tech. support but customer support (I don't know if this is still the case with the new setup as I've not run a DFI since my SLI-DR).

abit USA pay for & run the forum servers/software/bandwidth - I would presume that it comes out of PR/Marketing budget but I don't know.
