First time a mem sticks dies on my mobos. Was running 825mhz 3-3-3-9 with 2.2v no special setting (most of them auto). I started having problem with win-wista after I put 0404 bios, after 4-5 crash no boot....one of the two stick was bad, tested also on other mobos.
It is strange so many stick die on P5K deluxe in such short time....

Speederlander hasn't run a dimm on his life at stock speeds, not his life at XS anyway, he's a great clocker but things can break when pushing it, Eagleclaw also posted some superpi runs and those reuslts aren't doable at the 3600mhz at DDR800 4-4-4-12 so he boosted his ram too...
sorry things can go down when you overclock... but I hardly would directly fault the board and call it a ram eater....
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved
Remark : They call me Pro AsusSaaya yupp, I agree
My RAM death is most likely due to temps. Those 2 gig sticks run very hot and I had 4 of them packed together. Even with a fan directly on them they were BLAZING hot. I had a 100 CFM fan right over the RAM but I don't think it could get air down in between the sticks, so something overheated, even though it was at stock volts.
Indeed my point, thanks for clearing up one case of dead ram stick ; don't always blame the board other things matter too, sorry for ya loss Speed , but you will get up there soon....blazing fast again...
Maybe remove the heatspreader from 2 dimms to get some air in ?

I ripped off Orion23's idea and I've got a 80mm fan sitting on top of my 8800GTX blowing on my ram and NB, dropped the mobo temp by about 5c at the fan's medium speed. Looks kinda hokey, but what the heck, more LEDs. :P
Now if I could just figure out why I'm still not seeing memory voltage numbers like you guys get. Could it be something like not clearing the CMOS well enough when flashing? I'm running 0404 currently, had same issue with 0311. What I typically do is flash via EZ flash and a USB drive, after it's done and reboots, I go into setup, it gives me some complaint about values, I assume that's because something that's set or wasn't set doesn't carry over to the new version, I then tell it to go back to defaults, I can see the settings are back to default, and then I'll modify the settings again and save them. That sounds pretty typical doesn't it? The only thing I'm maybe not doing is setting to default, then saving that and making my changes after a reboot.

Safan he's referring to the ram on the mobo matehe just placed a fan on top of the GTX card that blows "fresh" air on the mobo's NB and ram...
I always reset the bios after a flash, also never flash with an OC setting !!!

opps.. my bad. too many tabs open again. the best way to cool the ram isn't just with 1 fan blowing air on them it's with 2 fans. one to blow air on them and one to be used as an exhaust fan. the problem that I noticed by only using one fan (120mm or 140mm) on the ram is you still get can get heat build up even if it's just a small pocket things can get hot quick. once I had two fans near the ram ( intake and exhaust) the ram is cold to the touch even at 35C room temp.

This is from ded spots from larger fans like the 120/140mm fans.this may be reduced by adjusting the gap between the target & fan. Personnally i use a 120mm side panel fan + crucial dominator ram cooler.you still get can get heat build

I'm having trouble trying to overclock my Ballistix PC6400 RAM, at 4-4-4-12-2T and 2.1V it can do one pass of Memtest86+ at 457MHz however I haven't let it done any extra passes as it was just quick testing. It doesn't seem to be stable in Windows Vista because when I opened Super PI, the program doesn't respond after trying to start a 1M calculation.
At 5-5-5-15-2T and 2.2V it can do one pass at 510MHz. If I push it to 520MHz, the PC doesn't display anything at saving the settings in the BIOS.
Do I need to adjust the following voltages after CPU Voltage in the BIOS, such as CPU PLL, DRAM termination etc in order to provide more stability?
Currently I've got my E6600 at 3.2GHz using 1.35V and my Ballistix's at stock speeds and timings (400MHz and 4-4-4-12-2T) at 1.9V which is over 12 hours Prime95 stable![]()
Yuphappens when overclocking, that's life.
But I doubt VERY much (well my chips anyway) heat was the issue. I do have 2x120mm fans crossing over the ram and I have taken them out right after shutting down and touched them while running and they were not hot at all in fact they were surprisingly cool.
I bought a set of patriot DDR800 (no commentsa while back in case such problem occurred, they are on loan to a friend and I should have them back next week, they have the same Micron chips so we will see if those last under the same conditions.

hey guys I wanted to know , from some RAm expert ( hi eva), what procedure in memtest86 u guys going through, how many loops/hours/ or u loop just a certen test f.e. just test #5 or pared with other? I got some doubts @ my current RAM O/c, since I had 1 time a suddently reboot, With my current o/c it passes 8Hours prime Blend tho. But today I runned some memtest test #5 and it gaves errors even after 5 passes! what is a bit odd since I tested it before with 10 passes before I started to prime. The FSB was @ 382 and FSBv 1.20 NBv: 1.25 Vdimm: 2.30v @1222 with 5-5-5-15 / 4-30-12-4-4 mhz see signa. for specs. This morning I tried running 381 FSB ( with same timings/sub, with same volts however it runned test #5 passes 70 times and after that it errored( testing now subtmings set on AUTO on that tho) . Could this be NB related? since I got just 1.25v on it and how about FSBv got it @ 1.20. Or Should I lower the FSB another notch to 380fsb, Any help are welcome
* edit @ 381FSB it errored even after alrdy 2 passes test #5 now! with sub timings set on AUTO, and before I manually adjusted the subtmings to 4-30-12-4-4 and it went 70 passes before erroring, what values do the P5k set when u leave those sub timing @ AUTO? hmzz...

I dont trust memtest as a stability tool. I was seeing how low I could make the voltage on my d-9's with memtest, then tried to confirm stability at that Vdimm with Orthos...very fast Orthos failure.
The weird thing is, I tested it first with memtest as a quick test 10 passes for test #5, then primed it 8 hours with prime blend, it was stable so far, I just got now my rig like 2 weeks in that 2 weeks It just happend 2 times suddently reboot. So today I was suspecting perhaps the ram, So yes I did some memtest #5 now it would crap out very soon , setted the subtimings to auto instead still bad luck and even downclocked the fsb with 3 notch still no luck:X very odd:X

mc2k,
have you changed bios in those 2 weeks. 0311 runs very stable, whilst 0404 is set for tighter performance. If i use my 24/7 settings from 0311(12hr orthos stable) in 0404 i fail orthos.

I didnt Superhanks , it is really odd man, i mean the first time I tested it passes like 10 times memtest test #5 So i assumed this could be stable and yes did 8 hours blend prime and no errors, So during those 2 weeks I had 2 occasional reboots, So 2day I was thinking it might be the ram, it yes
It didnt made above 5 passes test 5 or it crapping out, and I even downclocked it still errors :X , I was thinking maybe ram is faulty , So i did the stock settings for my ram 5-5-4-12 @ 2.2v 1066mhz passes 60 times #test 5 , So i assume it is not faulty, correct me if i am wrong , I am pretty new to overclocking.
Benching now @ 401fsb now @3.2ghz for 3 hours now, I removed the panel before it would hit in no time to 68-69 degreece ( got stock cooler ) , now with the side panel removed it is 63-64 mostly of the time with peaks to 66, is this oke? the ram is setted @ 1003 @ 5-5-4-12 , after it is like 8 hours + stable I will try to find a new ram setting, So what methode would u suggest to test the ram? I want to do this before blend now! just curten tests? or all tests, and how long? or loops? please this newb out![]()

I just got my P5K deluxe today and all was well. I overclocked to 9X400 using the same settings as used by eva2000 in his superb evaluation. Stable so far but a weird ram timing issue.
I set ram manually at 4,4,4,12. CPU-z reports it as 32,5,2,12 and damned if I can figure out why. Help!
Also, the system now refuses to restart. It goes most of the way down and hangs - If I tell it to shut down all is normal.
Help anyone?
