    HD2900XT VRM Temps

I just got my liquid cooling onto my HD2900XT 1gb cards, and my core temps are awesome, but I'm worried about my VRM temps. I have Swiftech MC-21 mosfet sinks on the VRM chips, but Rivatuner reports the temperatures over 100c. With the gpu vcore @ 1.3v (1.2v stock) and the GPU @ 900mhz the VRM chips hit over 120c. The card seems stable with these temperatures, but they couldn't be good for the card. Unfortunately I never checked what the temps were with the stock cooler, so I have nothing to compare these temperatures to. Does anyone know what temperatures are safe? Could someone who knows an HD2900 tell me what they get?

    Thanks,
    Johannes M

PS: I tried opening my case and putting a 120mm fan blowing right on it, and it drops the temps to 86c. I haven't tried the 120mm with my case closed though, because I have tubes running out my case to my radiator, so I can't close it.

Just use a fan near the rear of the card and you should be fine (near the 2 power connectors). Did you do that the first time or did you put it in the front or middle?
Are you using BC09 ICs (for your ram)?

When I was getting 120c+ I had no extra fan blowing on it. I had a fan blowing from the outside of the case right onto them to get the mid 80 temperatures.

I believe they are BC09s, although I never actually checked.

To get rivatuner to display voltage regulator temperature go to the monitor window, and click the setup button in the bottom right. Then in the bottom of the window that appears, voltage regulator temperature should be one of the options you can check.

Your idle is bound to be low. The card underclocks in idle. It only needs about 10-15 amps in idle. It uses a good 60 amps in load. At the very least, run through 3DMark 06 once without the cpu tests. Ideally you would want to loop one of the test 5 or 6 times. If you don't have the pro version then just play a game for 10 or 20 minutes, then jump out and check the temperatures highest point on the graph.
