    goodluck on your new mobo...
    E6420.

I'm going to find out once and for all if the FSB wall around 445Mhz is the CPU itself or the Motherboard.

If it IS the motherboard, you'll be seeing my sig change from E6420 @ 3500Mhz to E6420 @ 3750Mhz.

    dsaraolu.......3945Mhz on air is SICK.

I'm fairly sure there's no way you're Orthos stable at that speed, but I would love to know if you're able to beat the 3720Mhz that dnottis just put up below your post.

could be either the CPU or the mobo limiting you to 445FSB.

3.9Ghz on air? Dont feel upset. I gurantee you that 95% of chips out there wont even come close. There are certainly more chips out there which wont see the light of 3.0Ghz on air than the 3.9 variety.

I've already tried several E6420.. but in the end my "treasure hunt" for the golden "cherry pick" CPU cost a lot and didn't get me far. I'm sure it would be much easier if I worked on Dell assembly line and got to try out 1000 chipss

My QuadGT can only do 444 mhz. Anything beyond that is just unstable. Pretty sure my E6320 can go a little further, but I think my board is holding me back.

I just recieved this batch 3717A922 from newegg. I can't find any information at all, I can't even find another stepping with a number as the first digit. I am using a 650i MB with this chip and so far its at 3GHz, but I havent loaded windows yet so I can't tell anything yet. Anyway this is the rig.

I will post more when I get some testing done.

Just saying it or for real
For starters is it E6420 or E6320? Do you have ORTHOS/SP32M screenshot? What cooling are you using? What is the stepping?

What is stock E6320/E6420 voltage for everybody? All the E6420's I tested had 1.35V stock.

Is your chip assembled in Costa Rica or Malaysia? What voltage did you use to get to 3Ghz?

Just a follow-up, I don't believe my chip is the problem, but I can't start testing that theory until later this evening.

    Mine is a L651 B325 Batch. (Mfg'd Late December of 06')

These have been known to be good clockers, but the board needs to be able to scale on the FSB because the chip is limited to 8x multi.

I'm praying my P965-S Dark let's me find out once and for all.

Also, just to answer the post from Deimos, my E6420 will do Orthos stable 3200Mhz at stock voltage.
I can run it up to around 3.4Ghz (not Orthos stable, but Windows boots) before I have to start bumping the volts.

Dang all you guys are getting great overclocks on your e6420's.

I'm stuck at 3.4GHz with 1.44vcore with vdroop mod on my p5n-e sli board (fsb 425MHz).

    I'm doing this with 4GB of ram (OCZ Titanium PC6400 @ 5-5-5-15, 2T, 2.1v) @ 1020MHz.

Having a hell of a time trying to get my Ultra-120 properly seated on my cpu.

I can get it on just fine and it makes good contact, but it's just getting the dang thing on without moving it around too much so the thermal paste stays nicely spread out.

When I remove it to check for contact I see a lot of the thermal paste is not evenly spread out and has bald spots where it's just bare heatsink and cpu contacting without thermal paste.

Tried spreading out the thermal paste today and making contact the old way instead of using the Thermalright way of putting a thin line down the middle of the cpu.

I will report back with temps.

I'm hitting 58 celsius at peak load with orthos priority 9 and small ftts to stress the cpu.

Ambient is pretty warm I might add, but I wish I had four hands so I could hold the heatsink steady with two and screw in two bolts at once to balance things out without disturbing the thermal paste upon installation.

    *sigh*

Anyways, I will report back after some more temperature and stress testing.

    Going to try for 3.6GHz.

    Cheers,
    Mike

Just got a E6420 L707A751, have it running 1333 FSB now with stock cooler/volts. Orthos been running around 30 minutes, staying around 70~72C. Still waiting on the MM case before i put it under water.

The chip was assembled in Costa Rica and the voltage was 1.48. I had to do an rma on the MB and get a p5n-e instead since it was acting very wierd. So I wont be posting any more information for a few days. Unless I decide to try it in my EVGA board.

At work and wondering how my baby is doing.

I have her stressing at home. Before I left for work she was running for 8 hours or so without any errors (small ffts, priority 5).
Probably at 13 hours or so now if she hasn't failed yet.

    3.6GHz 1.54 volts E6420 (450FSB), P5N-E SLI (bios 0505), 4GB OCZ Titanium PC6400 EPP @ 1050MHz (5-5-5-15, 2T, 2.2volts)

    Keeping my fingers crossed.

Hitting some high temps with my thermalright ultra-120 extreme...60-65 degrees celsius with the front of my P182 open.

E6420 L707A751, Stock cooling/volts running 1333 FSB (2.66 Ghz), 32 hour Orthos stable. Pics to come after I get it all under water. 70~76C on stock air.

Edit: I'm running 1500 FSB now (3.0 Ghz), 24 hour Orthos stable 1.32v in BIOS. The above post is wrong, I had volts set to auto, that's why my temps were hitting the 70's. With volts set at 1.32 i'm topping out at 58C. This is looking like it'll be a nice chip. Will post more after I top it out.

    I have the same problem.

IMHO its either heatsink bottom not flat or the CPU. I dont think moving/titling will help.

    SO.....

I found out that it's not my Mobo.
I get the same limit when using my 680i and also when I recently tested a DFI P965-S Dark.
It appears that my E6420 has a wall right around 445Mhz.
I wish there was some way to overcome this, but as it stands......I don't believe it's possible for me to go higher.

    My E6320 do 7*435= 3,045Ghz stock volt And only 23c with a 9700 zalman
But the party end at fsb 440*7 = 3,08Ghz.
    Tryèd a freinds E6600 6*550 = 3300 no problems.
