    Well......not quite......but pretty bad.

The upside: I can never feed too much voltage to the CPU. The BIOS tops at 1.6v and the most I can get from that is about 1.55v actual, which drops another 0.005v or 0.01v under load.

The downside: I may actually never know how high this E6420 will go.

The downside Part Deux: The NB max volts in the BIOS are limited to 1.4v, which also denies Max OC attempts.
The highest I've gotten into Windows on with this Mobo is 3580Mhz.
i think if you need over 1,5v to get 3,6ghz than you will anyway find the chip limit very soon.
i can boot super pi stable 1,375 (set in bios) actual around 1,35v @ 3,6ghz

    Got the L651B

3.2ghz @ 1.350v Orthos temps are not higher then 50c
    3.4ghz @ 1.450v Orthos
3.5ghz @ 1.525v Orthos But gets to hot with scythe infinity.
3.6ghz @ 1.600v Bootable and SuperPI (diddent try Orthos on that voltage )

    for benching i use 3.4ghz (3dmark)

I am running 3.2ghz with the ballistix on 500 4-4-4-12 2.15v 24/7. Works fine for me i am happy with this chip for now. Next cpu will be a Q6600 G0

Thanks for sharing the clocks. because of this topic i get a 51B myself

    Sorry for bad english.

Would it be fair to say that diminishing returns really kicks in at around 1.45V?

I've read that particular old batch numbers are good OC. But, Goofisch and many others have various otehr batch numbers which are doing really well... has me wondering if its just random luck of draw.

    Wow.
Are you sure you've exhausted all options?
The 680i should get you 450+ FSB and the cooling equipment you have should make it safe to pump enough volts into that core to definitely get a higher stable clock.

Unless, of course, you have a dud.

If that's the case - I'd sell it before the price drops and get a replacement ASAP !

24/7 (might be able to back off the cpu volts a bit--still need to test). CPU temps are that high because we didn't turn on our air conditioning and it was 80F in the room at the time.

Suicide run--not Orthos stable at all.

Yes this is the same system. The wallpapers and SG are different because the suicide run was taken about a week ago. The 24/7 ran last night.

Yes. It does appear that it's safe to say there are no more REAL good overclockers out there by a particular batch. It does seem to be a real crapshoot with the latest run of processors. I'm pretty happy with the 3.2ghz i have stable on 1.42v. Not quite the 3.6ghz that i was hoping for though.

Nice results guys. Pitty i have THE worst 6420 to ever be produced. I cant get anything over 2800 Orthos "Stable". 400 X 8 @ 1.51 REAL vcore is unstable . My board (p5b dlx) has massive vdroop so ill whip out a pencil soon. But i can break 11100 in 3dmark 06 with my gts so its not so bad.

I assume that you've already tried upping other voltages too? maybe a bit more NB juice, or mem volts could help out. I know it did help me, but I'm on a P5N32-E sli plus, which is a board that needs a LOT of tweaking (just like a lady...)

I'm now also stable at 3.2 for 24/7 @ 1.375, and was able to load windows up to 3.6 @ 1.525. Not orthos stable though. But I read some v's of over 1.6... maybe should try that one day

    cheers, and happy oc'ing ;p

    E6420

    Hey guys!

Just reached 4000mhz with my e6420 on 1.55 vcore unstable though.
Is it safe to run 1.55-1.6 if i dont use it 24/7? I use watercooling.

I would say that you're looking at the life expectancy of your CPU dropping from 12-15 years......down to maybe 7-9 years.

These are numbers that I'm completely pulling out of my ass, mind you.
But don't be surprised if they're close, and even if they're not, you get the basic idea.

Will your CPU explode after 6 months of running like that, no.
Will it possibly / probably diminish the life expctancy, yes.

More than voltage, the primary thing you, me, or any user should be concerned with is heat.
If your system & CPU stays cool at 1.6v (35c or under idle / 55c or lower under load) then I wouldn't worry about it at all.

By the time that chip finally kicks the bucket, you will have purchased his great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandson chip.

The Intel Ocho-Quad Duo at 10000Mhz.

8x4 cores x's 2 Chips mated together in Intel propietary packaging with each core operating at 10Ghz.

How much voltage do you think your CPU will take then?

Mine is scheduled to arrive on Thursday.
    I can't WAIT.

This eVGA 680i LT is hitting the brakes on me around 440Mhz.

I'm nearly positive that eVGA designs the BIOS to not allow extreme FSB speeds because they want to keep their non-LT version at a premium.

As a case in point, my original (P02) BIOS allowed 1.5v on the MCP.
When I updated the BIOS and flashed to P04, the option was removed and 1.4v was the new max.

    New E6420s and conclusions.

Mobo fsb limit does certainly exist.
CPU fsb limit also undeniably exists.
CPUs from same production week can have vastly different OC.

How do I know this? New made in Costa Rica E6420 fails to POST at 440fsb.. but sure enough powers through at 430fsb (all lowest voltages!!). Another E6420 with identical setup started getting unstable >370fsb. And with lots of voltage for everything could only get it to run up to 390fsb. Another 0709 Malaysia has no problem with fsb, but fails to reach 3.1Ghz like its brother.. in fact only 2.9Ghz...

so far Costa Rica for teh wIn :{/
