I would like to be positive in the answer (for my own interest too xD) but i would say no.

As Tony explained in a thread some time ago more than 2,1-2,2v 24/7 will kill your memory early or late; and if you need now 2,4v for them to beeing stable the logical answer is this.

Hopefully im wrong and your memory will last for many time but...In the worst case Crucial has the best RMA ive ever seen so dont worry about it

is it better to go MHZ or Lower and Tighter Timings on C2D ??

    thanks.

Sorry about your ram. Unless your doing cas 3, MHZ is more important with C2D I believe.

Heh, thanks...i appreciate that people feel sorry for me and my ram hehe..
though its just a computer part its nice that people care's

well i can probably go cas 3, but then i will kill these too
and this is my golden backup RAM , very nice ram thats allways working
and can go over 1000mhz with only 2.1v.

well well ...i've learned my lesson, and i will take it easy in the future...
here in swe a new DDR3 1375mhz 1GB will go about $700. its expensive yet.

    while the DDR2 2GB 1200mhz will go for $300.

hmmm I'll see what i doo hehe ...

    thanks peeps.

    Thats impressive

while you have to go 2.55 and destroy the RAM.
    the ballistix is sensitive

to bad they doesnt do this on 2.2 hehe... but it has potential..
couldnt RAM be like cpus...and DONT GET toasted with a little push of vdimm trough them
    hehe..

EDIT: I cracked open my Heatspreaders, and i cant see what D9 they are the Ballistix Logo is all over the name :P
i can see a little M logo tough ...no more ..tried cleaning it away with strong cleaning liquid, but its stamped hard onto the chip.
mind the camera, it sux ass and this is MAX with the Macro hehe ...old Olympus

Florent, that is fantastic. Have you ran any Super Pi (32m) and compared 4 1GB with 2 1GB at same speed. Like 600 mhz or even higher?

hey Coop, i just happened to do some testing today with 4x1gb VS 2x1gb on the P5B-Dlx with none other than some Ballistix PC8500 (both tracers and non).

i was testing at 400*9 2:3 2.22v (DMM) at 5-5-4-5. i found very little difference between 4x1gb at 5-5-4-5. in fact, the 2x1gb was consistantly faster by a few tenths at 5-5-4-5 600MHz with reasonably tight sub-timings.

    13m 10.422 / 5545 / 600MHz / 2gb

    13m 10.750 / 5545 / 600MHz / 4gb

i got similar results after multiple runs of the above settings. at 5-4-4-5 600MHz, i got about the same results with the 4x1gb...the sub-timings were slightly looser with the 4x1gb though to run 32M.

i also did some testing previoulsy on the QuadGT, i found with loose sub-timings at 500*7 1:1 there was about a 2 second advantage to 4x1GB but when tightening up the subs...that shrunk to 1 second or less.
i don't quote in my signature, but best WR ever...

I was thinking about you running 4 1GB when I asked that. I did not know if being able to run 600+ may make up for any losses.

Are the D9GKX chips better for everything? I remember hearing somewhere they were better for lower latencies, not so much for frequencies...

Well done loc.o! This is just sick:

I've ordered some KHX9600. They have GKX and is really good I've seen, but not this good I think. Maybe you got real lucky with thoes sticks. For now I just thinking about to order some Ballistix PC8500 instead.

    What batch on your Ballistix?

I have 4x1g sticks running. Doing 1:1 at 500fsb with 4-4-4-9 with 2.15v. Not overly impressive but they will get the job done and not kill them hopefully.

I put different heatspreaders on mine and all of them were the d9gmh -18f I believe it was.

Does it really worth to buy the 2GB kit Ballistix PC2-8500 over the 2GB kit PC2-6400? Both come with D9GMH ICs right?

    Which one would you buy?
    2GB Ballistix DDR2-800
    2GB Ballistix Tracer DDR2-800
    2GB Ballistix DDR2-1066
    2GB Ballistix Tracer DDR2-1066

    thanks

While you are correct about the chips used, you overlooked one important fact. Binning. The 8500's are binned higher for higher performance. Also, some have received D9GKX chips on their 8500's tracer or regular ballistix. Before you buy, let us know what you want out of the memory so we can give you better advice. Hope I helped.

I haven't seen anyone else run 4gigs anywhere close to those speeds. Good job. What have you been able to do with them at tighter timings?

    Yes it helped, thank you.

I want to run with 2.0V or less for 24/7 use. Since it will be an AM2+ rig, running at 1066MHz at least would be perfect even if I have to set @ CAS5.

You should be able to do that. This is what I got them to do at 1.92v on nforce 650i chipset.

That depends on the motherboard being used, although lately all recent GMH sticks haven't been hitting DDR2-1200 cas4. Cas 5 is pretty easy, but cas4 is another story. My Ballistix 8500's won't do more than DDR2-1200 cas 5 on the DFI P965-S Dark. But on the Abit IN9 32-Max, I haven't found where they top out yet cas 5 & haven't even tried cas 4 yet. If I were to grab a kit for cas 4 ddr2-1200 I'd go with cellshock. At least thats my next purchase

Nice mem. I was gonna get it but then after a long debate with myself eventually picked up with Mushkin 8500.

For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream.
