Here is the modded pwm cooler I was talking about. The pwm's idle at 36c in windows and depedning on vcore goes up from there, load varies up to 45c to 50c.

Does anyone know of a vdroop mod for this board. It needs it very badly.

what that review tells me that Abit needs to tweak the bios some more to improve performance...they have a good foundation now but it needs some more wratching.

    with higher CPU usage:

Source: PROHARDVER! - Alaplapok Core 2 Duo ala - 2. resz - Nyomtatobarat verzio (January 2, 2007). Typos in these charts:

    • "Asus P5B Dlx (Marvell 88E8801)" should be "Asus P5B Dlx (Marvell 88E8001)". 88E8001 is a PCI Gb LAN.
    • "ECS PX1 (RTL 8139)" should be "ECS PX1 (RTL8110S)". RTL8110S is a PCI Gb LAN, a variant of RTL8110SC.

Another NTttcp test shows a similar result: ComputerBase - Test: Asus P5K Deluxe WiFi Edition (May 21, 2007)

Another test in The Tech Report - Intel's P35 Express chipset (May 21, 2007) also shows that the PCI Gb LAN 88E8001 is much slower than other PCI Express Gb LANs, though it does not include RTL8110SC.

Abit uses this crappy PCI Gb LAN solution in AB9 QuadGT too. There are only 6 PCI Express lanes in the southbridge. In these motherboards, the lanes are assigned as follows:

    • 4: PCI Express x16 slot at x4
    • 1: PCI Express x1 slot
    • 1: IDE controller

while in ASUS P5B/P5K series motherboards with two PCI Express x16 slots,

    • 4: shared by the PCI Express x16 slot at x4 and the PCI Express x1 slot (x4 is automatically slowed down to x2 when x1 is used)
    • 1: IDE controller
    • 1: PCI Express Gb LAN

    Well, not always true.
    • Intel PRO/1000 PT PCI Express adapter = 82572GI (MAC/PHY; PCI Express bus)
    • Intel D975XBX2 NIC = 82573L (MAC/PHY; ICH7 lacks a Gb ethernet controller!; PCI Express bus)
    • All the latest Intel motherboards' NIC = 82566DC/DM (PHY only; GLCI)

Needless to say, the throughput performance of these three are more or less the same. As already shown in the charts cited in my previous post,
    • Throughput: any PCI express Gb NIC or NVIDIA NIC is almost identical.

    • CPU usage: NVIDIA = Intel PHY < Intel PCIe < Realtek, Marvell (see also this article)

Anyway, ABIT should not put a PCI NIC in its flagship (?) motherboards. Or you may have to pay $40 just for a NIC card.

Hicookie said that a new bios is comming out this week and will have strap options. I think the June 06 bios also has better performance, but I haven't tried it yet.

i did not do any comparison between the shipping bios and the 6 june bios but i can tell you that the pro falls behind in performance versus the QuadGT;at least when it comes to doing PCMark 2005 bench!...almost a 1000 points difference using the same hardware.

Why is everyone so concern about vdroop? if it droops .5v then just set it .5v higher in the bios... right?

Are you able to get that board 3d stable with that 540 fsb and 1/1?
Also you were able to get the DFI to do 540 too? I didn't realize it could get that high.

have this puppy now. on stock intel cooler, was to lazy to put on my tuniq. my cpu is lapped also.

400x9 58~65c only bumped up vcore to 1.35, MCH a hair and left sb alone. vtt is stock..rock solid

    standard stuff.

i decided to drop the multi down to 6x475. rock solid. the slight increase on voltages all around..except on my pc6400..had to ramp it up to 2.2 to be stable at 4-4-4-12. 4gb total. sub times set to auto

very nice. iam much happier with this board then the p5k, the bios is more rich aswell. the lack of 1t is a let down, but hopefully a bios update will fix that.

set it back to 333fsb for now while i run prime over night to see how stable it is stock.

nice board overall, at least the sata issues arnt going on like with the p5k dlx i just returned.

will post screens once i apply tuniq at least on friday. 500+ with some pwn cooling should be easy it seems

i am having a problem (the only problem) with the difference between overall performance of this board and my previous QuadGT...my QGT was at 390 FSB@9X = 3510 Mhz...i ran PCMark 2005 again on the IP35 Pro with the exact same hardware and almost the exact same frequency, 3500 Mhz (500 FSB@7X).

adjusting memory timing has very little influence on the final score for PCMark.

i am doing better in memory bandwidth than the QGT but that is not correlating into an equal or better PCMark 2005 bench score...so...it tells me that the bios is need of MAJOR tweaking in the performance category...OR...Intel's chipset specs has higher latencies to allow for higher FSB but in turn, that does lower the overall performance output of the board.

Tom's Hardware did a review on all the P35 boards and Abit's version was mid-pack to lower bottom on most tests run!...need to tweak the bios to bring that up.

here are my results with PCMark 2005...1st one is the IP35 Pro (@3500 Mhz) and 2nd is the QuadGT (@3510 Mhz)...the QuadGT beats the IP35 Pro by 600 points in overall performance...significant to me!

I've heard that a dual slot PCIe GPU covers up both Firewire ports. Doh!

I have to have firewire, and have a dual slot card, so am I SOL?

Can anyone with the IP35 Pro confirm/deny this?

depending on the height of the VC and the flexibility of the cable, you might be able to use the two ports.
