Well, from an assembly stand point this is as good as I can do. 1 from yesterday 1 from today. Pressure tested first one to 400 psi under water with nitrogen. No issue!
2 RMS finish easily. Flat and parallel within .0008 (not that it matters)
Cut up about 5 in order to verify the process as well as satisfy myself. Wanted to show a couple that were finished and in one pc instead of waked open.

I love that picture. Does a great job showing the outside but you can also see the inside thanks to the reflection.

if you did the capillary tube shorter will make brazing the suction line on alot easyer.
Good work in all guys, cant wait to test one myself

    Superb Eric

    ...2 RMS finish easily...
I don't understand, what does that mean?

When these evaporators enter mass production do you think it would be possible to produce an alternative version with longer copper subs to allow people to use metering devices other than capillary tube?

It's industry standard grade of surface finish or roughness Tom.

When these evaporators enter mass production.

    Tom,
IMO mass production is a dirty word, too many negative connotations associated with it. But to answer your question sure. I'm sure some people will want to tweak things a little on an individual basis. (90s 45s longer/shorter)

    Eric,

It would be great if these did enter mass production, although I think with the equipment you've been using to get that kind of finish would end up making the evaporators very costly for the end user.

There are large and small masses. Maybe Tom was talking about a small mass of perhaps two a week.
There will only be one person pushing the buttons on milling machines, but we plan on making enough to go around.

What length do you suggest on stub out tubing Tom?

Eric and I were talking this morning and we have had request for GPU evaps. We decided we could convert these into GPU evaps with very little modification. They will be Sli ready.

I was just thinking of making the entrance tube a bit longer (maybe 4" long?) so you could get something like a CPEV onto it easilly, if anyone wanted that is. I guess most of these will be used with capillary tube so it's not so much of a problem

A sleeve or a piece of copper with a swag on the end will do with a quick braze.

Hey Walt - We need your opinion on something.

When we do the evaps to make them sli ready the suction line needs to come in from the side so that you can fit it between two cards siting side by side.
We want to keep putting the evaps together in the oven, but it won't be possible to braze the suction line in with it being on the side in the oven.

Do you think it will be okay in this case to braze the evaps in the oven with the alloy Eric is using and then I can solder the suction line in the side with stay-brite. That way I could solder the suction without worrying about melting the brazing alloy that was already there.

Do you think this will be okay?

you can do that or use a braze with a higher silver content, like 45% after and the inside shouldn't melt, the liquidus temperature will be lower the more silver in the mix.

we have to figure if its best to braze the tubes first or the evap in the oven then using a acet/o2 torch 45% silver braze the tubes 45% has a lower melting point than 15%.

or use a phos copper rod to first braze the lines in,liquidus is 1471 solidus is 1310 so that wont work.unless a 2% or 5% rod is below that for the inside.

I have to get my book out on all the rods melting temps. Those are my first thoughts. we will figure out a way.
