One thing I've learned about this board today...... loud squeal = too much voltage. Turned down the voltage (memory) and the squeal went away. I don't know if this applies to all the Dark boards but this is what happened on mine. Tried lots of things to get rid of the squeal. Thought it was a timing thing. Today it was strictly voltage.
The little air system that could.

if you remove the stock nb heatsink and clean out the "gum" then use AS5, you temperature should drop about 5 degree.

Whith what are you measuring NB temps? bios or some program? I dont know who to trust for those

I have used Everest and SG on first board...idle stock temps with AS5 is 42C...in all these threads I saw 1 or 2 people with similar temps

The second board so far just a bios reading

I realize the temps are not "accurate" but why would 2 boards with nearly the same serial number act so different....there serial numbers are within 2

The difference maybe the temp monitoring chip. In general motherboards use low precision ICs to keep costs down.

I got some ballistix 1000's coming this week, going to see if they get along with this mobo better than my ddr2 800 firestix.

Even different bios release can show diff temps. How much is your ambient? I dont find 27°C very realistic.

According to everest my mb temp is 38° with 27°C ambient (pretty hot here). It seems high considering that i'm using a copper heatsink on the NB and the ventilation is great.
@idle my MB temp is higher than cpu by 4-5 degrees.

Yo guys! Just recieved my 965-S DARK a few days ago.

Just wondering in Everest, which one is the NB temp? 'Cause i see Motherboard and AUX...=S

or do i need to update my version of Everest??

EDIT: NVM, i worked it out.. i compared the temps with SG, and it turns out that:
    In Everest..
MB Temp = NB Temp in SG
CPU Temp = System Temp in SG
AUX Temp = CPU Temp in SG..

Also, does anyone know which of the 2 HR-09's would fit the P965-S..? what about used in conjunction with a ninja~

i was thinking HR-09S both top and rear.. cause my ninja seems to overshadow the mosfets.. =P

Well folks, can't say it wasn't fun but it's time for me to leave. Just too many problems and didn't meet my expectations. P35 looks tasty

Last straw occurred recently, when I noticed the system was a little sluggish, but I couldn't pinpoint it. I found my sata drive was in "udma2" mode instead of the usual 5. Running hdtach shows synthetics that are no different than how they should be though, so I don't know if it really makes a difference, or if it's something else. When I switch sata ports, my drive goes into multiword dma2, and is incredibly slow. Not only that, half the time, windows will stall either on boot or before it loads up explorer.

Then today it got worse, and I was getting random stalls / lock ups and had to raise vsb to 1.6v. I'd expect this kind of behavior from jmicron but certainly not ich8r. Grr!

Yeah, I've tried different sata cables too. Best case scenario, the drive is "udma2". Not that big a deal I suppose. Don't have a windows install with ahci at the moment to compare with, but the synthetics are pretty much the same, so ehh

Can't seem to get my RAM stable at higher speeds or tighter timings even with more voltage. And my temps with a Tuniq aren't all that great (any recommendations on replacing the stock fan?) as it's starting to warm up in the midwest.

Either way I'm pretty happy as this same setup on a Infinity 975x could only hit 430FSB.
    I lied

    I'm over 9 hours Orthos stable at 3.73 (533FSB).

    Voltages are currently:

    CPU: 1.475
    RAM: 2.25
    NB: 1.45
    VTT: 1.375
    SB: 1.6

Haven't had a chance to lower volts just yet but I think some can be dropped.

Don't think I'll be able to go much higher as I'm getting to the limit of this RAM. Currently it's at DDR2-1066 5-5-5-15.

    @Dark79:

Can you try large FFT's? I thought I was stable at 500x7, passed blend, small FFT and OCCT for >12 hours, but large FFT always fails in an hour, more or less.

I'll try this when I get home, but I think this board is just quirky with some tests.

EDIT: Same problem. Large FFTs always fails. Strange

Planning on using the stock Tuniq fan? I'm using a tri-blade delta fan, but I need something better. My temps haven't increased much after changing from the stock fan to the delta fan and switching from AS5 to Shin-Etsu even though I've increased FSB and voltage.

But I'm not all that confident that a 3-blade fan is able to push sufficient air through the Tuniq fins plus is loud

Very nice Dark. I can't put up w/ the crazy noise of the Tuniq's stock fan, let alone a delta. :p The Scythe 1200RPM landed in my Tuniq and now sits on the UE. It's a bit louder than the Tuniq w/ the dial all the way down. For comparison, here's what my safe OC looks like:

I've gotten some fairly decent results with some ballistix, I think my board is a clocker though I need high mobo volts to do anything.
