I think as of now that I will wait for someone to release benchmarks of the card using CCC 7.6, and if performace hasn't shaped up, I'm probably going nVidia. But only the 640mb, cause I *might* be getting a newer monitor, and from what I've seen, High res+ AA = obliteration for the 320.

    Core i7 920 D0 B-batch (4.1) (Kinda Stable?) | DFI X58 T3eH8 (Fed up with its' issues, may get a new board soon) | Patriot 1600 (9-9-9-24) (for now) | XFX HD 4890 (971/1065) (for now) |
    80GB X25-m G2 | WD 640GB | PCP&C 750 | Dell 2408 LCD | NEC 1970GX LCD | Win7 Pro | CoolerMaster ATCS 840 {Modded to reverse-ATX, WC'ing internal}

    CPU Loop: MCP655 > HK 3.0 LT > ST 320 (3x Scythe G's) > ST Res >Pump
    GPU Loop: MCP655 > MCW-60 > PA160 (1x YL D12SH) > ST Res > BIP 220 (2x YL D12SH) >Pump

Well, I just found this review in-which the X2900XT seems to dominate in its price area http://www.techspot.com/review/52-as...eon-hd-2900xt/

where are some reliable benchmark comparisons?

i've seen one comparison and the 2900xt seemed to beat the 8800gts 640...so wtf?

someone needs to sort out this shyte.

as far as i can tell, the gts is a little cheaper generally, but also a fraction less performance, but ive only seen one article.

If you can buy now, just get the 2900XT. and if you don't like it sell it and get a GTS. Cause there is many people that would like to buy one.

Techspot is using the 8.37.4.2 driver, which was known to be broken. Check out the guru3d driver forums and you'll see why they got such nice scores out of it.

Why do the drivers show such good performance #'s?

    Exactly my thoughts.

    1.) AA doesn't work properly
2.) HDR doesn't work properly in some games(most notably serious sam 2 and oblivion)
3.) other various problems with games
4.) The AA that did work blurred the image, lowering image quality but without performance hit.

That's why 8.37.4.2 was replaced so quickly by 8.37.4.3. It's also why in general the sites with better results for the hd2900xt was using that driver.

Be weary of sites using that driver for testing.

Hmm.. well, I stand by what I said a little bit ago. I will wait for the 7.6 driver to come out, and, if performance doesn't look like it will get much better, I'll probably go with the GTS640.

You can buy the 8800GTS and HL2:EP2(which comes with Team Fortress 2 and portal free anyway) for about the same price as the HD 2900xt.

Buying a video card for a game isn't a good move.

Good decision, no need to be pushed into buying something you may or may not want.
