    interesting that you say that funky.
    i never thought that the plastic washer was causing the movement.

    you are right it can be twisted with one finger though, and that is too loose.

    if it were tighter on the cpu the thing, regardless of the plastic washer or not wouldnt move so easily.

    it twists and it moves side to side..

    the quickest fix for this would be to put a couple of washers on the mounting screws so you can tighten it down further.

    cpu temp wise its great.
    core temp wise, its,,, eh ok.
    but my ES has always had horrible contact from the IHS to the core.

    my Delta on the core temps can be anywhere from 20-25c and up.
    cpu temps not nearly as bad.

    oh i wont do that. The bracket is not flexible. Its very strong and rigid. Hard to even bend.
    If you put washer all it may do is create gap between mounting bracket and heatsink and make it more loose.
    Maybe some padding under the mounting clip ( between mounting clip and the base of heatsink ) will help. Give that a try.

    Sorry for digging up an old thread.

    Can we use the older Ultra 120 939 bolt down kit on the Extreme?
    Was hoping to get an Ultra Extreme 120 for an FX60.

    You can also purchase the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme Skt 939 retention kit. ($4)

    Thermalright cracked under the pressure of no 939 support for the Ultra 120 Extreme. Also, some retailers sell these as a package with the actual cooler.

    Thank you SaFrOuT and MrRevhead.

    Many friends are using Ultra120 on their C2Ds.
    Will pick up the 939 kit from one of them once my extreme is here - they have no use for it so why waste any bucks.

    With Tuniq Tower 120 the temperature did not exeed 65c even in Prime95.
    With Ultra 120 eXtreme the temperature hits 68c during SuperPi 32M...

    This is a retail heatsink.
    yea im in the same boat as you are buddy.
    to bad the enzotech ultra-x aint available in europe.
    and even worse is that i sold my tuniq tower
    thermalright really left me dissapointed.

    Question

    How well will this heatsink cool my core 2 duo at 4.0? Is laping needed on the heatsink to achieve better cooling? Im asking here because I ordered one already and would like to know if its possible to run my core 2 duo E6600 @4.0 for benchmarks , I have already run this same C2D at 4.1 in a very cold air conditioned enviroment with a zalman , it posted ,when into windows and after a minute it crashed. Any help and opinions will be greatly appreciated.

    Instability and yes, in benching conditions it will be more than enough. I know of a lady that took her 6420 to 4.25 on a Tuniq Tower which is nowhere near as good a cooler as the TR.

    I've heard you can mount another 120mm fan on the opposite side and do a push-pull with the two. Have you tried this, or does it even work? I'm curious to see if it helps the airflow and keeps things even cooler.

    i wish i had taken pictures
    the base of my heatsink is curved like a freakin boomarang
    its no wonder the damn thing runs hotter than hell.
    i havent finished sanding but i have sanded down more on this than i ever have on any other heatsink.
    i cant get the damn thin flat enough.

    i need to stop tommorrow and get some 400 or 200 grit as i am spending too much time with stupid 800 grit.

    Nice review!

    I eventually bought this cooler instead of the Tuniq Tower. After a 2 hour lap job, it really lives up the expectations! My Q6600 is currently running 3.6Ghz 33C idle, 50C full Prime load of 13 hours.
    ANTEC 900 STUFFED WITH:
    * ASUS P5K-E WIFI/AP
    * Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 G0 @ 3.6 Ghz (450 x 8)
    * Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme (lapped + washer + AS5)
    * HSF: Scythe S-FLEX SFF21F
    * Corsair 8500 C5D @ 450 Mhz / Latency @ 4-4-4-12
    * XFX 8800 GTX 768mb PCI-E Retail @ 602 / 1016 Mhz
    * Corsair HX620W
    * 1x WD Raptor 72Gb
    * 2x WD 250Gb
    * SB Audigy ZS2

    Boomerang you say... let's see the pictures I took from mine, I still haven't decided whether I should send it back or try to work it flatter one way or another.

    Can any TRUE owners comment the base on mine, is it really this bad in all of them?

    The theory is supposedly this, they did that intentionally to compensate for the concave ihs on intel cpus. Some places that sell them offer lapping services. I've lapped a couple and like Lestat mentions, begin with a course grit, like 200 and progress from there.

    edit: btw funky, outstanding review!

    I know this is an old thread but wow is this HSF awesome. I have the TRUE with an Antec case fan on medium and my temps right now as we speak are 34C. That's with a 4050mhz overclock on cpu. I wonder how much I can lower this number even more with a good quality lap job on both HSF and CPU. Any experience.
