Well again I was proved wrong. Dammit! I guess there were at least 1 bench mark run. Which again proved me wrong. I figured for sure K10(K9) would be faster than Conroe but to my surprize at this late showing its 8% slower. There are several good things I have seen tho.
1). Very low power draw according to FUDZILLA for a chip running at 1.6ghz.
2). Barcelonia is NATIVE quad core vs. 2 stapled on dual cores for intel to create Qcore. This should have a profound effect on the evolution of the cpu. Look at its benefits. More defective chips. Lower margines for AMD.
I am assuming intel is taken its time for a native Qcore design so as to get it right the first time and to keep yields high and margins above 50%. On the 45nm tech yields per waffer should be very good. Than 1 year later we have 32nm on the Nehalem C also using another new transitor design . 3D gates.
Tick tock is it a count down to what exactly . Who is the clock ticking down for ?
If AMD prices Barcelonia in the $100 range I might buy one but intel will have faster low end chips that will be priced equal to amds highest performing parts so it's a really tough decision. But My new grandson it going to be needing a learning PC and K10 should prove to be a nice chip in the value section of the market.
