How about the (Northbridge) chipset? Seems like the chipset temps could be an issue even more than the CPU, I've just got a stock cooler so I'm only running mine at 333Mhz FSB for now (same CPU & MB as you). I was looking at either the CPU cooler you got, or the Coolermaster Hyper TX 775. Did you try OC'ing with the stock cooler before u put the Freezer on it?

I guess you need fast memory with the e6320, the multi is so low I didn't think it through enough or I might have rather gone with the 4300...

My new E6420 L702C554 aircooled by Sharkoon Copper Twister (3500rpm on max.)

It can boot to windows @ 3600mhz with 1.44Vcore on bios ( DFI P965-S unmodded)

I tried to overclock it more and here is print screen @ 3837mhz with 1.56Vcore

    and I tried more

    3920mhz with 1.60 Vcore

    forgot to validate it

Bought this from Newegg and recieved it this last week. Been messing with it for a bit to see what I could get out of it. Doesn't help that the current ambient is around 100F as I haven't put in the AC yet. Does 3.1 on default volts. This required 1.45v. Why CPUZ reads it incorrectly I dont know.

    C2D 6420 - L648G416 Pack Date 3/28/07

Running on a P5N32-E SLI Plus Mobo
    Foxconn 8800 GTS 640MB
    1GB DDR2 800 Kingston HyperX (Soon to be 2GB)
EDIT: On air with a Tuniq Tower 120

I could run memtest86 up to 3.9Ghz with no errors, although nothing over 3.6 was stable in XP. I would get random reboots. Makes me almost think my PSU is not up to the task. It's an older Antec 550W that needed the 20 to 24 pin converter and the 4 to 8. That'll be the next thing replaced to see if it allows anything higher then 3.6
    stable in windows.

I was freaking out a little bit at some of the earlier posts, but glad to see the e6420s pushing past 3.5ghz...

Mine is arriving on Friday, but won't really have my new system set up for another 2 weeks or so. I'm doing a massive water cooling project for my e6420

Hey guys, I picked up an E6420 L707 A5xx something, and I'm only able to hit 3.4 with 1.51v on my P5N-E SLI.
Here are some screen shots. Kinda sucks considering you guys are hitting 3.6 and more.
    I'm still happy though.

I'm coming from an E6400 that did 3.4 with 1.46v on the cores, so I'm satisfied.

Still playing with this thing so we'll see what happens.

I'm running all this with a Thermalright ultra-120 Extreme with a Vantec Stealth on it in an Antec P182 case OCZ GameXStream 700w, eVGA 8800GTS 640MB, OCZ Titanium EPP 2GB, X-Fi XtremeMusic.

I had really hoped for 3.6GHz, but one can only dream sometimes I guess.

    Cheers,
    Mike

I think this is going to be my 24/7 clock. I still haven't tried to find the max on this e6420 yet (L651B from tankguyz)--but it seems kind of voltage hungry. I was hoping to hit 400x8 on stock voltages--but that did not happen. Everything I read said L651B was a good stepping--but the one I received seems to need a lot of vcore compared to many other e6420's I see in this thread.

375x8 only needed stock volts and my RAM only needed 2.0v.

    400x8 required:
    vcore bump of +.100v
    nb +.200v
    vtt +.100v
    RAM 2.2v

I've had the board up to a 475mhz FSB at stock volts--so I know it's not the board holding me back. I think I'll be able to do 425x8--but I'm sure it will require another +.100 bump on the cpu, and in the summer months I think my temps will get a little out of control with 1.5v on the cpu and 2.2v on the RAM.

Not much yet. It is a L650C E6420 currently running 2.9ghz on stock voltage. Gonna run orthos overnight at 3.0. So far i'm very pleased with the boost in speed over my opteron 170.

only had time to run these bnchmarks.......i had to return the board.....

right now i have it mounted on my Abit Quad GT

i am trying (hard)to find a board that gives me at least 530 fsb so i can push it a litle further

later i will post a pic of the cpu showing the batch code

I am just shy of 3.7 with mine but am changing to the Fuzion, might be able to break 3.7 with it. Until then here is 3680. I can run 3.6 @ 1.44v tho. Primes all night long
