Further testing necessary, but my hopes are not too high since they seem to get worse, and this is a 2007 week 10 bloody chip.

Looks like Intel has many 4MB DIEs, which don't bin that well.
(Heh, 2,8G is way above original clock)
They work - so it was easy to ship 4MB products for the same prices,
compared to the 2MB versions. Too bad for us (overclockers), they have
less headroom. I wouldn't buy 6x20 versions again.
-> Seems like there are 2 version - one which work with 1,25V (they look
good) and the second which work with 1,35V - don't buy these.
Thats not correct i have a 6420 1,35v stock voltage.
425 x 8 3,4ghz @ 1,375v - aircooled
also see here : http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=144952
This chip can probably do much more with more volts but its not intresting for me because my aircooled rig probably wouldnt be able to handle the temps resulting.
i just got a e6320 and a DS3 as a cheap family system. wonder if ill be able to hit 3Ghz with stock cooling???

I find the idea that air is not suitable for any extreme overclocking quite sad, air cooling does require more patience and more focus on temps but you can push your system quite far if you are careful. Extreme is not only for water or DI or LN2. Here are my efforts with the E6420 on air. Tunig Tower 120 CPU cooler

Let us know how it goesI'm re-testing mine now, it's been 13 hours running orthos around 56-57C coretemp overnight (very cold ambients though). I'm using a Scythe Ninja with the 120mm fan and an additional 92mm fan on the opposite side (push / pull air flow). I'm hoping that the AS5 will settle and drop temps further. If it doesn't I'll have to re-apply, I was getting better slightly temps on my last mount.
