Thanks
i have a question about that Asus specs comparison for the P5KC...i have a printed comparison sheet from Asus website for 5 of the P5K series boards...i selected the boards (up to 5 allowed) and then printed it out...the features on my spec sheet for the P5KC says it does natively support DDR3 up to 1333 and 1066 for DDR2...the person who developed your spec sheet link might of gotten confused over the P5K-WS which only supports DDR2 up to 800.
AND...i interpret the Asus fast memory speed as Intel's "Fast Memory Access Technology", which again shows up on my copy of the P5KC specs, but it does not for the P5K-WS!
EDIT:....here is the comparison link that i looked at: http://www.asus.com/products_compare...1694,1691&l1=3

what geil ram are you using? black dragon stuff?

no 1T...oh well, hopefully it'll come in time.
I only just now realized that this board doesn't really support raid. I mean, technically it says the Jmicron controller supports SATA raid, but it only has one internal SATA port, lol. So I guess the only way to run RAID it to raid one external and one internal drive?
yes P5K simple

Can you tell me if max vcore is the same as Deluxe at 1.7v?

How much is the lack of 8-phase power going to hurt the P5K Vanilla? That's the only thing keeping me from buying the board. I don't need all of the crap on the Deluxe.

Driving a lot of vcore might worry me. But it shouldn't limit overclock that much with sane voltages. Possibly even other aspects of the board may limit it. That said, slapping some heatsinks on the mosfets may get you where you want to go, if it indeed does limit you.

I don't know if it has been posted and I missed it, but what is the max Vdimm for this mobo right out of the box?
And what about the Deluxe version?

vdimm is 2.50 and vcore is 1.7. Mine undervolts like a mofo, .10 and vdroop .08...
I like the board alot but definitely not on par with the deluxe voltage wise. gonna do the vdroop pencil mod right now and see how she goes. Memory clocking is really good and overall I like the board alot. Considering the price this thing will be a great bargain with a few volt mods. I'd say watch for a couple more weeks to see what people come up with. Definitely the board to buy if you don't need the bells and whistles of the deluxe and the voltage can be sorted...

Thanks for the quick reply.
I'm trying to sit on my hands and not rush out and get a board and instead, do as you have suggested, but dang is it hard!
I really don't need all the fluff stuff, I just want a board to play around with that will allow me to clock the memory well and these P35 based boards seem to do that very well. It is either one of these or the DFI Infinity 965-S.
I understand that one has just a tad more voltage available for the rams.

Pencil mod does wonders... Under volts to about .03 now and droop is about .02. That's about how my deluxe ran and making life a bit easier now.
Thanks boblemagnifique for posting that up...
Also, bios 0414 vdimm goes to 2.55...perty sure shipping bios 0202 was 2.50.

Well, I'm on air so I doubt I could come close to theoretical maxes anyway. The pencil mod is easy. Hopefully this thing does well with quads. If so, I'll buy one at the end of the summer.
EDIT: Looks like it will handle quads fine from this post:

Does anybody know what CPU PLL voltage and the CPU Voltage reference is?

P5K @ 600+ FSB! WOW! Excelent Intel/Asus Job
I just did the pencil mod. Originally in CPU-Z, I was getting 1.400V while bios was set to 1.50volts.
After the pencil mod, CPU-Z will not show a voltage higher than 1.213V. Very strange. I know of no other program that would read the voltage properly. The Asus probe always read at 1.49 or 1.5V and doesnt seem to ever change. The problem is, it should read 1.10volts because I'm managing my clock speeds with CrystalCPUID which sets my chip to run at 6x400@1.10volts at minimal loads, 8x400@1.30volts at medium loads, and 9x400@1.50 at heavy loads. CPU-Z will detect the 1.10 volts but fail to show anything above 1.213v.
Edit: Oh btw, I like this motherboard much more than the Gigabyte DS3 rev 3.3! I bought the DS3 around 3 months ago and it died on me so I replaced it with the ASUS. The DS3 gave me tons of headaches and was plagued with blackscreen issues when overclocking that required manually flashing the bios. I hope the Asus P5K won't give me those. As of now, every single benchmark I've done in Everest Ultimate Edition at 9x400mhz shows that the ASUS P5K is faster than the Gigabyte DS3 :-)
And does anybody know how I can see the north bridge temperature on this board?

I just did the pencil mod aswell and am very happy.
Original bios 1.45, idle in windows 1.4, load in windows 1.36
now bios 1.45, idle in windows 1.43, load in windows 1.43
I am very pleased with the results of my first pencil mod. I too am interested in a way to find NB temperatures. Now that my vdroop problemn is fixed I can do some more max fsb testing tonight. I'll post some results tuesday.
