after i finally got 500 x 7 1:1 with 2x1GB stable without restarts i tried to mess with 4 x 1 GB.so far either i get prime thread errors or restarts.
could you please post crucial values for your 4 x 1 GB setting ?
sorry i dont feel like reeading thru 8 pages but whats the vcore droop like for you guys.
please say what vcore you are using right now and what droop you see.

If you take a look at my signature for the past mobos I've tested, this mobo is by far the best for the least amount of vdroop but the only downside I can comment on right now is it makes annoying squeeling noise when the memory is stressed. However, under normal circumstances, the noise is almost non-apparent.

yeah but you have the dark,,, what about the dark vs. the regular 965-S
njkid tells me the Dark he thinks just has better caps, but he isnt sure and better caps are better voltage stability

To Nemesis:
Please do post your upcomming OCZ rams OC results with this mobo. I'd love to see. From the reviews I searched on the OCZ Titanium Alpha VX2 PC8000 4-4-4-15, 2.3v, it doesn't seems to OC well becouse it's already pre-OC to 500mhz at 4-4-4-15 and 2.3v. Although it's the voltage xtreme with voltage waranty covered up to 2.52 technically but you OC-ability may hit a wall somehwere around 550mhz give or take. The retail price for it is apparently about the same as a PC8500 kit now that doesn't make the Titanium Alpha VX2 shine too much.

for squealing noise
my solution is find the exact volts for your ram and no more noise.
f.ex. fsb 400 x 9 on q6600 and 1:1 on ram-gmh with 2,2v gives me noise
2,10v and ok
it was same on commando for me
question- does anybody have 965-s with quad over 420fsb?
on commando i could reach 460fsb but on dfi i got hard time-everything over 400fsb is not near benchstable.
any tipps for me please
thanks in advance
At the moment my ballistix are running @2.0v 800mhz 5-5-5-18, which was the auto set by DFI. At default voltage (1.9) I couldnt install vista.
I'm trying to find good values still, starting from default cpu.
So far with 2:3 they dont even like 4-4-4, the max voltage i tried was 2.15. I think I just have to pop 400mhz fsb and start from there.
I think it will be hard to have CL4 over 800mhz with 4 sticks.

I got my board yesterday and had time to set it up on my test bench (my desk, lol) and do some Memtest86+ v1.7 testing.
Specs:
C2D 6420 'L651B'
2x1GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400
DFI p965-S
OCZ PowerStream 520
eVga 7900GT
Keep in mind I was just booting an ISO of Memtest off a CD--I did not even install windows or have a hdd set up. I ran:
3 passes at 667 4-4-4-12 2.0V CPU@2.13 FSB 266
3 passes at 800 4-4-4-12 2.0V CPU@2.8 FSB 350
3 passes at 940 4-4-4-12 2.1V CPU@3.0 FSB 375
3 passes at 1000 5-5-5-15 2.2v CPU@3.2 FSB 400 (I also had to bump the VTT up a little to run this without errors)
Since this is Memtest--all other voltages (cpu, NB, SB) were stock.
Sometime this weekend I'll find the time to install Windows and do some real testing--but if my Memtest numbers are any indication of how far I'll be able to clock--things are looking pretty good.![]()

OCZ PowerStream 520
Seagate 300 7200.9
Got mine today, changed that CHEWING GUM from the NB, put AS5, started it, worked 2 seconds, "poc" from the beeper, it restarted and remained like that... started, but not showing anything or doing something.
I tried an BIOS reset, 2 PSUs (Corsair HX520W and Sirtec 500W), 2 CPUs (E6400 and E6420), 2 memory kits (Team Xtreem 2*512 D9GMH and Apacer 2*1GB), with and without video-card, with all components and only with necesary hardware. NOTHING! It doesn't work.I had the same problem with DFI LP ICFX3200-T2R/G.
What the hell canI do? I tried everything.![]()
If you haven't already done so, check the TIM application on the NB. AS5 isn't the best choice for that.
Been there, done that. It's OK.
But I'll try with Titan Silver, that's all I have now.![]()

Been running as5 on mine since I got it. Just dont put too much and your fine. I had the stock one on there and lapped it used as5, then I got a extreme spirit2 and used as5 with that guy.
I guess if your really worried about it use some of the white stuff. Had mine going for a couple of months now with as5 and no issues

Lestat, dark and nondark both use the same solid caps for cpu voltage regulation, so they should be the same. nondark uses nonsolid caps for other components.
That said, I'm applying +200mv (1.325+0.2=1.525) and get 1.5v idle (when c1e off of course) and 1.48-49v load. Not all too bad. Plus, I turn c1e on, so that when it's in idle, it lowers both fid and vid (nice touch by dfi!). As a result, my idle is 6x450=2700 with 1.31v.
edit: also, about the mosfets, I've found they don't get all too hot. I don't think they really need to be cooled. I'm pushing 1.5v

Alot of the reviews on the Alpha's weren't tested on today's hardware. Though a few were. I based my decision on purchasing these two kit for three reasons. 1) I'm looking for best timmings 1:1 so the higher warranted voltage of the alpha's will come in handy, 2) D9GKX IC's(though some alpha's have GMH's) & 3) Eva's results

This board is killing me. Didn't work here with 3 PSUs (Corsair HX520, Sirtec HPC500 and Chieftec 400W), 2 CPUs (E6400 & E6420), 2 RAM kits, 2 video cards and it worked "at first key" when returned to warranty (with E6420, the same one I had here). WTF?!![]()

Mines a little strange too. I can't use my 2x1GB Firestix PC2-8000 on any settings but auto.. so for now i am stuck at 800mhz with them. I've tried most of the settings here, and the guides on this board as well.
edit: my E4300 is at 8 x 400mhz w/ NB strap at 266, and dram clk at 533 for 1:1. i've tried messing with voltages, timings, ect.. my board/mem only likes auto for memory.

I just got this board (non s) 2 days ago and playing with e4300 q644a, found this so psu picky, I tried HX620 but failed then using antec tp 650 fianlly it pushed to 3.25g (360 x 9) at 1.4vcore with 4g ram, still priming now..so far so good
