    the performance diff between the E6850 , E4300 and E2160 in gaming is very big

    If you consider overclocking then Pentium E2xxx is the best CPU for the price, without competition.
    Someone asked about cheap mainboard.

    Biostar 945P-A7A V8.X, $38
    It does over 1200MHz FSB, so there are very cheap mainboards with great OC headroom for the budget Core2 Duos.

    Ive never seen a am2 amd board for $40.

    That's because enthusiasts have been asking so much more from enthusiast mobo makers. Like the use of solid-state caps, more demanding power regulation and cooling requirements, more complicated/compatible/feature rich BIOS support (even for CPUs they're not required to support), LAN and sound has become standard, more quality diodes, more convenient user features like diagnostics LEDs and on-board power switches, among many other things users have been demanding over the years.

    i think i may pair one of these up with my current DS3, and use it for testing and reviewing, and then get one of the 45nm core 2 duos and the P35 DS3 when they are released for my gaming rig
