it does not matter actually..but the common rule for overclockers is always switch off things that we does not need

I built my system using a P5K deluxe over the weekend and things went great.
Using Vista Ultimate and didn't have to format or anything.

I only had problems with my logitech usb keyboard / mouse not being recognized during the first boot. The second time around, it was there.

Tonight, I built my brother's rig using another P5K deluxe and things didn't go as well.

First, the board wouldn only recognize 2 out of the 4 SATA drives installed, later it would find them all, but they were gone in a couple of boots again. SATA detection would cause the board to hang.

Then the board wouldn't recognize either of 2 USB logitech keyboards or mice ( I really miss the old mouse port). I had to use and old keyboard to run the driver setup from the CD and only the keybord was recognized. I had to get a secondary USB mouse which was recognized. The logitech mouse is useless for some reason.

Now, if someone could help, Is there a way to enable AHCI within windows with this ICH9 chipset?

I had done the "old" method which worked for the ICH7 chipset...

with bios 307 some of my usb ports go on and off for no reason. I'll try 304 and 202 and see if it helps.

To load the AHCI drivers you will need to buy an e-sata to sata cable.
Use the e-sata port on the backplate of the board to boot up into windows, whilst enabling the AHCI option in the bios.
The installation will prompt you for drivers
Then, simply swap back onto the ICH9 sata port, with AHCI
Worked for me.

What's it mean when programs start causing an error and crash instead of Orthos saying there was an error? I've noticed that happening once in a while as I've been testing some high clocks and trying to pinpoint what the failure point is. Is it the CPU, FSB, or Memory most likely? I usually have CPU-Z open when running Orthos and it has been the one to crash the most. It's strange how Orthos will sit and run for hours but applications, including Orthos will randomly crash once in a while.

I have P5K Deluxe too.
Dont know why but i have problems with 4 satas.

I have ICH9 raid enable. Two of the disks are in raid0 and other two are data disks.

The problem appends sometimes, after a couple reboots and the disk that disappear its always the same, no matter what sata port i chose

Huge FSB improvement (especially in quads) for relatively tiny voltage boost. Maybe worth it to you, maybe not.

I think to some extent for a lot of people. I mean, some CPUs just have a valid FSB wall, but it appears that for a large group, they were board-limited to an extent and just assumed it was CPU. There is no question that for Quads, your FSB (for MOST people) should see good to substantial improvment with P5K. A few people don't, and those people likely were limited by their CPU rather than their board.

I've been wondering almost the same thing. The manual specifications for the black slot says it's @ x4 or x1. I'm thinking the RAID card has to support x4. Has anyone tested any RAID cards in the black slot?

The first slot will stay at 16x, at least that what cpuz reports for the speed and I have a HPT 2320 4x card in the 2nd pcie slot which works fine.

If I'm not mistaken the 4x limitation of the 2nd slot is due to the connect speed of the sb to the nb since the 2nd pcie slot is handled through the sb.

FWIW, my quad core cpu went from a max prime-stable fsb of 390 (on an ICFX3200) to 475 (on the P5K). I'm happy!

It will be 4x like on the P965. Most raid controllers are 4x. Some Areca are 8% and the performance drop in this case is in the 10-15% range.

Anyone having any problems with raid 0 on this board? I installed win xp pro 3 times and when accessing the hard drive by a disk scan or defrag or sometimes just random I get bsod and it says the error was caused by iastor.sys I tried recreating my array and formating and still getting it.

Is DDR2-533 RAM speed supported at all FSB speeds?
From the photos and descriptions below I don't see
*any* support for DDR2-533 listed at all.

I'm getting a bit worried since I just bought 4GBy
of DDR2-533 RAM on sale; not the fastest but I was
planning to use it until I could buy 8GBy of the faster
stuff on sale.

I would imagine AUTO would probably run the memory at 533 at default clock speeds, as soon as you set the fsb the real memory options should appear. I have mine at 400fsb and the memory is running 1:1 at ddr2 800 but the bios didn't actually display it until I set the fsb manually.

Cons:

1. Lack of PS/2 mouse port - for KVM switch PS/2 users like me it mights it a bit more complicated to use. I setup a spare USB mouse next to my PS/2 mouse and by passed my KVM switch PS/2 mouse connector cable but kept KVM PS/2 keyboard/monitor plugged in.
2. No power/reset/clear cmos buttons like the Striker Extreme boards
3. Bios chip it isn't replaceable but soldered/fixed on the board it seems. See page 2-3 of manual for the board diagram here. The bios chip is supposedly located at the centre point in between the last PCI3 and PCI-E 2 slot and the red IDE connector location. Directly in alignment with the battery. That would make the bios chip to be the soldered on square chip to the right of the 7 pin header pictured here ? But it has Crash Free 3 bios feature see page 4-7 of manual. Shove the included driver dvd disk the system and boot it up and it should attempt to do a recovery bios flash.
4. Added May 17th, 2007: Folks over at hardforum.com have highlighted some possible layout concerns in that if 2x double slot video cards are used in the 2x PCI-E video card slots, it will render 2 out of 3 of the PCI slots unusable and the location of the front USB/Firewire connectors and IDE connector.

Using a 8800GTX or any card with that kind of length makes the 4 SATA ports nearest to the card rather difficult to access, especially if the card cooler is taking up 2 slots. I think only L-shaped connectors will fit those ports?

sorry for the noob question but does AHCI drivers benefit HDD only in raid modes? does it offer any benefits if only using 1 hdd is sata II

Real quick, has anyone done a performance comparison between P35 and 975X? How do they compare clock for clock say both at 400fsb DDR2 800. Whats gonna run faster? I still havent been quite sure in reading about the P35, some say better than 965, some say about the same....
