I built my system using a P5K deluxe over the weekend and things went great.
Using Vista Ultimate and didn't have to format or anything.

I only had problems with my logitech usb keyboard / mouse not being recognized during the first boot. The second time around, it was there.

Tonight, I built my brother's rig using another P5K deluxe and things didn't go as well.

First, the board wouldn only recognize 2 out of the 4 SATA drives installed, later it would find them all, but they were gone in a couple of boots again. SATA detection would cause the board to hang.

Then the board wouldn't recognize either of 2 USB logitech keyboards or mice ( I really miss the old mouse port). I had to use and old keyboard to run the driver setup from the CD and only the keybord was recognized. I had to get a secondary USB mouse which was recognized. The logitech mouse is useless for some reason.

Now, if someone could help, Is there a way to enable AHCI within windows with this ICH9 chipset?

I had done the "old" method which worked for the ICH7 chipset...

In mid 2007, why any board with any usb mouse or keyboard would not see it at any given time is beyond me, no matter what stage of setup or whatever. These things should just work period. I feel like we are still in the computer stone ages sometimes. I mean heck we are still "booting up" To me that is like starting up a vette using a model "T" crank starter. Barbaric I tell you. sheesh!

Too funny. I can't agree with these statements more. These issues and the whine on some boards lately, it's just a shame. Is the race to bring product to market out of control or what? No QC to include a usb mouse?

On the other hand, I have a P5K dlx en route to my house and I'm really excited. I guess the demand for new product, more fsb, more bandwidth, etc. also drives these buggy releases.. I'm guilty of biting on that for sure.

If a usb bug is the worst thing going I can live with that.

orion23 did you enable Legacy USB support in the BIOS? My Microsoft Habu USB mouse didn't detect the first time I fired up the board either and I enabled that option in the BIOS and after that it seemed to detect fine. I'm pretty sure that's the setting that fixed the issue for me.

I tried the 4:5 memory divider and my ram maxed out at ~550mhz at 5-5-5-12 at 2.25v totally stable with memtest86+. Looks like the FSB was the limiting factor, I had just assumed it could break 440fsb.

If I drop a controller in the second PCI-e slot, does that take the first PCI-e to x8 or does it remain x16?

    Hi!

Thank you all for your help!

I don't know if both used the same bios originally, but now, both are flashed to 304 (thanks EVGA).

The reason I wanted to have AHCI enabled is because my brother will be double booting with XP and Vista.

His XP installation was done with regular IDE SATA drivers, no AHCI.
And I would like to install vista with AHCI enable, but this will be a problem when booting unless I go into the bios every time!

Try using a R600 on it.... But to be fair, had three different P35 boards whine on me when using R600 under load.

I have this problem using a 8800GTX. I thought there might be something wrong with my VC. Any ideas

So if this thing takes more voltage to overclock, assuming you currently have a CPU-RAM combo with a 965 mobo, what incentive do you have to upgrade to the P35?

Huge FSB improvement (especially in quads) for relatively tiny voltage boost. Maybe worth it to you, maybe not.

I had whining from the board, power supply, and cards running the Quad 6700 at 3.920, R600s in CrossFire at 898/1056, and five Raptors in RAID 10. I blew two 1000 watt power supplies last week and burned a hole through one of the boards, but while it ran it was stupid fast, well for not being on phase or LN2.

Back on subject, I had a couple of 700w power supplies and one 850 whining under load, the 1000s have not done it so far unless I pushed the system, otherwise I do notice a little from the board with the R600s but not the 8800s, still trying to figure out why as the draw wattage is not that different.

Those of you that have done extensive benchmarking, what would offer more performance, a higher FSB or a higher memory speed? I'm stuck with using an x7 muli and an x8 multi with an e6600 and 2x1GB Crucial PC2-8000 Tracers. I'm working on either 7x530 or 8x460 and higher. These Tracers don't seem to want to do 1200Mhz+ so I'm either limited to ~1066Mhz on the 7x multi or >1100Mhz on the 8x.

    Can't get stable at 3.6gmhz

Problem I find so far using kents for P5K deluxe.

I have problem hitting 450 x 8 (3.6gmhz) stable.. it always shut itself off less than 1hr of small FFT using prime95. I have no problem on 450 x 7 or 475 x 6 while priming...i tried higher vcore but still the same

CPU has been running 450 x 8 on my asus commando prime stable (at least 8hrs) and 475 x 8 for bench..my current P5K deluxe can't even allow me to boot 475 x 8 with the same vcore or higher that I set for my commando.

anyone manage to get it stable with kents on 3.6 with this mobo?

    Ditto, I have two Q6600s on a P5K-Deluxe and a P5B-Deluxe, and both have a wall around 3500MHz.

I have plenty of Vcore to go, and my temps are very good considering they are air - Prime95 small 70-77C coretemp on Ultra-120 Extremes.

    P5B - 1.5625v = ~1.4 drooped = 3456Mhz
    p5K - 1.5125v (damper on) = 1.464 drooped = 3474Mhz

The P5K needs a lot more voltage (effective) to get the same result as the P5B, but both go boom when priming above 3500Mhz no matter what.

I hate it when you have stop errors/boom reboots instead of prime95 errors - it makes it hard to tune and pin down what is happening...

guys with Q6600 reboot issues tried raising NB and/or vFSB volts ?

I'll pluck my Q6600 back in on my P5K Deluxe and see how it goes since my X6800 has made it's way into my Asus Commando which arrived recently http://i4memory.com/showthread.php?t=4058

    more fun

Yup, tried adding more vcore, upped FSB termination v, CPU pll v, NB v all to max values, no real help. I also tried all those settings at about halfway, and at minimums, auto - trying to duplicate your golden Q6600 ES.

Nothing going, I know there is a bit more in these CPUs, but we are hitting some sort of wall when priming. 56K or 64K Prime 95 FT in place is the spot most likely to kill it.

Once I see much more than 370 watts on the power mate, I know it's not going to last.

But still, 3.6GHz 24/7 was my happy point for e6600s, so to get 96% of that with TWICE the cores and heat is hardly a crappy result. (3.2G was my "pass" mark)
