at 5-5-5 they run pretty damn good. i haven't had the best luck with Ballistix and voltage so i have stayed rather low with this kit but they have done well so far. what is most impressive isn't the 5-5-5 clocking but 3-4-3. on the P5B-Dlx, this memory doesn't really like 3-3-3, but it really pulled ahead at 3-4-3. at the same voltage, 3-4-3 clocked on average 30MHz further than 3-3-3, sometimes as much as 40MHz faster.

What are your subtimings at those settings. I'd like to copy those once my mb is decided on. I have lonely Tracers atm.

How are you guys taking off the heatspreader without scratching/damaging it?

i see this thread is for the 8500s... i ordered the 2gb tracer pc2-8000s from buy.com... think it'll make a diff if i pick up the $130 AR deal of the 2gb tracer 8500s at newegg, or does it really not matter?

    thx.

subtimings are in all the screenshots, just scroll to the right hand side hafter clicking for the full-size.

taking heatspreaders off is not recommended. these ballistix were a fight to get off and it shows. the thermal paste is all ripped up and it simply looks like they were pulled off.

Oops, my bad. Good advise on the heatsink. Not worth it just to look at the chip module type. Thanks

Goldman, personally I think you'll get typically the same as people w/8500's, maybe less overclock. I feel at least you'll do as good as the lowest overclock posted in the 8500 forums, but maybe not the top end 640+ mhz overclocks, who knows?

This is the highest I was able to go with 4-3-3-5 timings with tight subtimings. It is very odd that it will go to 576mhz at 4-3-3-5, but will not boot into windows at 600mhz 4-4-4-12. I think my chipset is what is limiting me. I need to get another good benching board. Any suggestions?

That would be very interesting Irev210, I hope you really put that test together and have the time to post results! My kit is arriving tomorrow and I've got the whole day off (YEAH)! I ended up getting the vanilla PC2-8500 Ballistix from the EGG. I'll post IC's and initial results tomorrow afternoon/evning. By the way Irev where did you buy the GKX Ballistix from (or were they sent to you for testing purposes)?

here is my question-- is there a difference between the tracers or the balistix? other then the led's? Im not really into all the flashing stuff-- but love how these are timing...

There is a chance I could be wrong slideways666 but I'm pretty sure there is absolutly no difference between the Tracers and the vanilla Ballistix other than the color of heatspreaders and LED's. The IC's and PCB are the same but set me straight guys if I'm incorrect!

    Crucial Ballistix PC2-8500
    @634Mhz 5-5-5-15 at 2.3v
    Asus P5K Deluxe 0307 bios

Crazy memory to be able to hit 634Mhz 5-5-5-15 at 2.3v vdimm for dual Super Pi 32M!

    Single 32M

    Dual 32M

    Crucial Ballistix PC2-8500

Sorry to hear that superray, I just barely got my kit installed (about 5 minutes ago)! Like most others they are 1.8ns GMH, I'm hoping they will do well since I just sold my Cellshocks to get them! I will post initial results as soon as I'm able to put together some results! By the way superray what kind of numbers are you getting with them (how bad are they)? Also have you been able to reallly test them (CAS3, CAS4, CAS5, etc..)? You are the first person I've heard from who wasn't impressed with these modules. Last but not least do you happen to know what IC's their running?
