Talking XS Official PSU Of The Month: May 2007

The xs general hardware section, still reeling from the OP650 whine debacle, will be redeemed with this month's PSU Of the month.

    The primary obstacle ?

Atop the PSUs recommended for high end single cpu + single gpu systems stands the popular and confident Corsair HX 620W. No powersupply within a 150W radius has the guts to challenge its price/performance/wattage dominance, and the rock solid stability, whisper quiet operation and tons of power make it the ideal choice for most of today's rigs, especially now that the OP650 is down and out.

But perhaps there is still hope for choice in the single gpu/cpu frontier. Could there be a $150 PSU with more power than the 620W HX, have the modular feature AND a 8-pin pci-e connector WITHOUT having to call up Corsair marketing

At the end of the road lined with fans wanting to get a choice in one of the most popular PSU segments comes the new 80 Plus Crossfire certified Enermax Infiniti 650W. Charged with holding up the mantle the OP650 so easily dropped, the Enermax 650W, available at many places between $150 and $175 USD, comes in at a whopping 624W on the 12V rails, 24W more than the Corsair HX. The PCI-E connectors are aplenty with 2 regular 6-pin and one single 6+2pin connector for that hearty DX10 card. Adding to its fame is the recent JonnyGURU review of the 720w infiniti that the units operate at amazingly close to 80% efficiency at the hottest and highest loads, even if the temperature reaches a tad high at loads above the spec of the PSU, garnering a 9.5/10 overall.

The Enermax Infiniti 650W is in an exclusive club of DX10 Ready PSUs that can power single quad core + single High end DX10, or quad core + high end mainstream GPU SLI (GTS/XL). Though it will have an uphill battle trying to take the crown away from the Corsair HX 620W, the Enermax Infiniti 650W represents one of the best products from a brand name PSU maker that takes the time to update its product line to keep pace with current technology.

XS PSU Of The Month: Enermax Infinit 650W !!

    ZZF: http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...odlist=froogle

As it is a newer product, as time goes on prices should bring it around the $150-$160 range

    Enjoy

Wow, very nice PSU! I've had a few problems with my Silverstone Strider ST60F (quad rail) such as insufficient power supplied to the molex connectors.

And once I decide to get an ATI DX10 GPU, i'll need to upgrade PSU anyway (due to insufficient amps on certain rails). This may be just what i'm looking for!

So are we saying that multi-rail is not as pointless as we thought?

So, their RMA works, its resale value is pretty good, and your bad experience was from owning it for 3 months...

Obviously there was a defect with your unit...hence the quick RMA. Your post doesn't tell us if performance of the PSU was good or bad, and jG himself has stated that they are very good performing PSUs.

@Sheogorath, though single rails are ideal, multi-rail PSUs with good internals, efficiency and modular feature have amazing value Corsair 620w isn't single rail either

I may go for this eWiz seems to have a better deal by $10-$30 than anyone else with that instant rebate. Not to mention jG's review really paints it to be one really good performing PSU. The 80% efficiency would be nice too

i was looking at the 720w model at one stage...i like enermax psu's...the galaxy in particular has very good components inside and is rated very well...if this is anything like the galaxy it should be good.

I was considering one of these for my system and decided the Corsair 520HX was a better match (Single 7900GS - e6300@3.2ghz),
and its better Deal at just over $96 shipped from Buy.com
    (+ a $10 MIR bring it to $86)

Hard to beat a deal like that on a tier 2? / 1 psu

Is the Corsair upcoming 8-pins native? Or are they just adapters? I think I asked in Jonny's forums one time if it was still possible just to "add" an 8-pin modular connector to the HX series, but apparently it wasn't without it being "native." They'd have to redesign something INSIDE the models for it to actually work. Don't know what that means exactly... if someone can help me though so I can make a decision between this and the Corsair.

It is not native afaik. It's just an adapter.

Corsair will ship out 8-pin cables to HX series customers if you call Corsair Marketing.

All you'll be charged for is shipping.

Are the Cables long enough for a full tower case?
