im somewhat curious about these fans... are they really quiet? can someone record the sound of these yate loon fans? by the looks at the information provided of these fans (looking at the medium ones), they are 33dba. that is really loud, my antec tricool fans are 33dba on high settings.

except tricool's are more like 44 on high, i have them.

i just got my 6 medium fans and brought them down in to the basement where i had some tricools and lian-li fans to compare to. (it was 2 am when i did this so barely any ambient to interfere)

so i plugged in 4 of the D12SM-12's and one tricool.

SURPRISE, the 4 yates were quieter than the one tricool on high

    conclusion yes they are quieter

are they quiet right off the bat? or do you have to mod them or something. i read the whole thread, and theres something about putting them at 7Vs? im sure i can do it with the asus chassis fan connectors on my p5b-deluxe? (using q-fan 2)

no, you don't have to mod, they are quiet at 12v. they put out a little less air than the tricool on high but if you were to set the tricool to 7v it would put out less air then the yates.

also in case you didn't know yates cost about 3-4 $ apiece, you could buy 5 yates for the price of 1 tricool lol

if you aren't worried about noise use some medium or high panaflo's, they are 38mm (a plus for performance) and produce great airflow without TOO much noise

You have to ask yourself if the noise is worth the performance. As with most things, you'll eventually hit the wall of diminishing returns. Sure you can get 1-3C better, but is it worth it at the noise level of a Boeing 747?

Thermochill PA's and the MCR Quiet Power series radiators were designed specifically for low CFM fans. They don't scale as well with high CFM fans. I'd suggest the Thermochill HE series or heatercores if you prefer to create a wind tunnel in your room. You'll get much better performance gains with increased CFM rated fans.
