Do anyone know how to fix this? I can boot up fine but it's just very nagging. I searched everywhere and couldn't find a solution. Probably plugging the drive to SATA 1(Red) will fix it but my HR-05 totally blocked it

    Thanks!
I had that problem on a second p5wdh, where it didn't occur on the first.
Same bios used on both. I fixed it by using the -other- black SATA port. Aren't there three black ports? (I'm almost sure there were). Or maybe that one I used is the red one? its the one just to the "north" of the othr two. I don't remember.

    What's a HR-05?

Does anyone know how this board performs with 4x1GB? RAM is so cheap now that it's hard to resist not upgrading to 4GB. Found some very cheap Ballistix that will match my existing Corsair D9 nicely.

    Cant keep overclocked settings

I have been having this problem. It just started all of sudden and it happens with all the bios's.Everytime I set a setting like 375 fsb with a 6600 and save on exit of the bios it will not repost at all.I hold the power button and then turn it back on and it is back to default with the overclocking f1 setup again. If I keep trying it again and again it finally reposts with the correct overclocked settings.I have tried it all the way up to 400 fsb.Anybody have these problems?

Do you mean the JMicron one? This is the next thing I'll try but I have two concern for using it:
    1. Def. not good for cable management;
    2. I remember reading somewhere it doesn't work for OSX86

HR-05 is a MASSIVE southbridge cooler.

Now I have another question, is it even possible to boot up from a SATA DVD-ROM with p5w?

i also don't like it for cable management but also for drivers. why have something extra enabled when you shouldn't need it?

i booted fine with my pioneer sata drive to install vista. my only issue i have is my raid drive only recognizes on post about 20% of the time i boot the system.

Hello all! Thanks for all the info in this thread. I have a Asus P5W Deluxe Wifi and OCZ Platinum R2 RAm with 4-4-4-15 timings. I am running my E6600 at 400x8 = 3.2 Ghz which is about as stable I cant get.

My problem is, I have to set the memory to SPD or the machine wont boot. With SPD my memory runs at 5-6-6-18 (see pic). I used memset to change it to 5-5-5-15, which is reflected in the SPD in CPUZ (see pic) but I dont understand why the memory speed keeps switchign back to 5-6-6-18. Any ideas how I could resolve this? And any way I can get this running at 4-4-4-15?

    Thanks!

I'm running the XMS Corsair 6400c4, and even with voltage bumped and timings relaxed my stable overclock was definitely reduced. Used to be stable at 3.5 ghz, now 3.3 is as good as it gets. I also (like a poster below) can't get any at all above 800 mhz, again even with relaxed timings.

I have an early version of the board... I'm beginning to think the version with the higher MCH voltage would make a difference. :-(

I think I'm going to put my XMS2 sticks on ebay and try to find a reasonable 2x2gb kit.

My raid setup is also flaky. Hmmm... maybe I should ebay the whole thing. Grrrr.

a little more info like all your bios settings for memory, vdimm, vcore,MCH etc would be useful . Which batch e6600- what PSU - have you done NB/SB with AS5 replacement. I take it you save memset to apply settings at windows boot. Read the first post and disable anything in BIOS that you arent using e.g Vitulisation, memory remap etc.

    Here are my voltages:

    MEM: 2.0
    CPU: 1.3875
    FSB: 1.4
    MCH: 1.55
    ICH: Auto

With these settings its rock stable at 400x8

With memset I dont do a Save, i do an apply which reflects it in the SPD in CPUZ. I'll try doing the save but SPD is thru BIOS so I dont understand how a Save would help.

Memset doesnt allow me to set it at 4-4-4-15 though.

If you look at the first page of this thread you will see that in some cases SPD must be enabled at high fsb.

I have the exact same memory as you, used the same settings as you, and my timings were set the same as yours. The chipset is to blame. Not the memory. The only way to avoid this issue is different memory.

yeah the FSB has to be set to Auto or it wont boot. I think a BIOS update might help resolve this problem? There may be so many users who use the OCZ Platinum R2 with this chipset. It used to work like a charm on my M2N SLI Deluxe mobo.

    Hello !

I'm spanish, sorry by my bad English.

In this forum all the people has having problems with this motheboard and different memory.

I have GSKILL 2*1Gb HZ and my max FSB Stable is 415 where this memory can do very high better overclock.

I see that if we change the tRFC/tRD settings in memset this problem is solved, but it is in windows.

Many people is talking about a bios with the possibility of change this timmings in bios, but at the moment there isn't any bios with it.

Any info if Asus finally release this functionality in bios ?

Why not email we to asus talking about this issue ?

    Thank you very much

Thanks for the question... I've got one pair of the 1.2 rev and one of the 2.1 rev. That alone is probably not ideal... my overclocks with either pair alone are about the same.

Can you tell which chips without taking off the spreaders?

There is a big difference between them - rev 1.2 have microns D9s and the 2.1 have promos which dont o/c much at all! Here the ramlist to check
http://ramlist.ath.cx/ddr2/ and heres a review of the early revisions performance capabilities. http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/mem...dr2-800_2.html
I know cos I bought a pair thinking I was getting great memory and ended up with the 2.1's.

    ICH7 is faster !
The Silicon Image 4723 is a real hardware RAID controller. I takes one of the four ICH7 SATA ports and lets you connect 2 HDDs to it which can be run in hardware RAID0 or RAID1.

The Silicon Image 4723 is the reason you only get 3 ICH7 ports since the 4th port is hard-wired to Sil =)

I succesfully ran RAID1 and RAID0 on this controller with a recent -mm kernel. While the RAID worked just fine, it was very slow. I ran some tests and was dearly disapointed. If you want to run a RAID0 or RAID1 use Linux SoftwareRaid but stay away from EZ-BAckup!.

If you remove both EZ jumpers you can use the right EZ-Backup port as the 4th ICH7 port.

Nice post! I think its also possible to use the 4th ICH7R port by disabling both the EZ Backup jumpers. Didnt try it though, but that should give equivalent performance to using a ICHR7 port (just like the other 3).
