Something isn't making good contact. Every one of these boards I've seen the NB reported temps run mid to high 30's with stock volts and heatsink with the addition of a fan. When the NB is put under water the reported temps drop below ambient. So it appears the the sensor does react to NB temps and also reads low.
The standoffs are just some that I had laying around for circuit board mounting. You should be able to buy them any place that sells electronic components. 15 for a $1.00 or something like that.
I mounted the MCW30 without tubing attached. Milled two small aluminum blocks so their height was just short of the distance between the board and the bottom of the mounting plate. I used shim stock to fill in the gap between the blocks and plate. I took a measurement of each block with the shim stock in place, added the two measurements together and divided by two. I milled the standoffs to match this measurement. Reamed the holes and tapped them for 6-32 screws. It was a lot quicker to do then it sounds.
