When I first opened the package containing the IFX-14 I will admit that I was pretty skeptical. I was worried that we were going to have problems with clearance over the memory or heatpipe cooling system on the motherboard. Not only did I have nothing to worry about but the great performance numbers the IFX-14 put up on our overclocked Core2Duo turned me around completely. I was disappointed that we were unable to utilize the HR-10 cooler because I am curious to see what kind of an impact it would have had. I hope Thermalright plans to sell the IFX-14 separately (and maybe for a bit cheaper) from the HR-10 in addition to the paired kit for those of us that cannot use it. Not being a fan of small cases, there is a good chance that an IFX-14 will end up in one of my computers in the near future.

Overall I am more than pleased with the IFX-14 although I agree with Justin’s comments on the HR-10. The performance was right where I expected it to be for a cooler in this price range and the ability to customize your fan setup really sold it for me. I wish there was a little more clearance for taller memory like my Corsair Dominator sticks but simply moving a fan can fix that. I was also quite taken by the nickel plated finish and flame shaped fins.

Looking forward to seeing some numbers on this thing, though I already jumped for a 120X. I doubt the HR-10 would've fit on my 680i anyway thugh.

WOW, that thing is a monster, how do they expect you to fit it in your case with the extension attached?

I think that offset heatsink will cover the bottom. I have a hard time imagining that becoming any use, but that's just my guess at this point. I'm not liking the flames on it so much. The only draw back I had from the Tuniq was the odd shape, and this new heatsink is following in its footsteps.

It looks awesome, but I was very disappointed in the results. If you read the whole article the temperatures were not as impressive as they should be. I would also use the 140mm Yate Loons on that thing to keep it quiet.

What's up with this recent trend of trying to cool the backside of the socket, seems like you'd be better off cooling your Northbridge or PWM rather than backside of socket.

Can someone explain how this cooler can cool idle temps AT the level of ambient, then suffer during the load temps? Anyone else see something wrong with this picture?

The Mount is weak, 2 screws for that beast? Common. I suspect you could purchase the quality thermalright lga775 mounting kit for his cooler(if you have that socket). I say, Lap it, lap the IHS, Pressure mount using thermalright after market kit, slap on 3 14cm yates on it, , plus a small fan for the backside cooler, and we *should* have a new king of the hill without blowing out our eardrums.

this is why they need to compare different coolers at the same time, just so there is some consistency with mobo readings, ambient temps etc...

though this is only a preview.

Can't realize whats so special about this cooler..
It's way too big, there is no room left around the socket and the retention system looks crappy

Before I would pay that much money for this thing I would really really think about a watercooling system.
I mean, yeah, I already have one , but there are also cheap and good cooling solutions out there which don't make the mobo fall into peaces while transporting to a lan-party...
