I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard for them to integrate some kind of fusible link on the die that would pop if too much current was applied that wouldn't neccissarily affect the operation of the cpu but once the link is blown its blown. Which would mean all they would need is to check for continuity of the link to tell if a cpu had been ran far out of spec or not without needing a operational cpu to check.

Definitely not saying thats whats done but it could be something as simple.

its simple as this, unless both companies start denying RMA's from over clocking neither really will fully enforce that rule. If intel really has a way of seeing if you OC'd at all, and denied the RMA every time if it was over clocked, we would see the biggest shift in the market towards AMD, and they know this. But who knows maybe they will come to come mutual agreement on how to handle these things.
    Current Setup:
-9850 GX2's in Quad SLI config
    -Asus P5N32-SLI MB
    -2x512mb of PC2-5300 DDR2

    -WD Caviar 20GB Hard Drive
    -Zip drive
    -Jazz drive

LOL, what THEY SAY is safe yes... but what if it goes WAAAAY further? My friends E4300 stock 1.8 GHz @ 3.3-3.4 GHz??? Is that still in the "safe" limits? And who's to say what's safe or not? The REAL-QUICK-PEAK-AT-IT-BEFORE-IT-LEAVES-THE-FACTORY... or the enthusiast, that actually takes time getting to know that particular chip?

IF THIS were true... which I don't think it is, IT WOULD BE stupid

Reliable... hmph.... kind of saying; "your car won't work as normal one," knowing that I can drive one of our cars, which is a Mazda 121(LOOK THAT UP PLEASE!!) and STILL outrun these idiots who buy 2007 model AUDI A6 turbo-diesel-injection-right-out-to-the-knots-in-the-winter-tires! It's all just a matter of faith, and just to OWN THE RIGHT to be INZANE ENOUGH to just DO IT Cut corners and all that nonsense... it's all just a matter of; "Are you willing to put the pedal to the metal?"

So yeah, I really think this sounds stupid!
    Don't anybody else?

I would have no guilt RMA-ing my C2D if it were to ever fry considering I put less than Intel's stated limit of 1.3525v through it for my overclock.

I don't think it will ever fry anyway.

Keep in mind intel employees frequent these messege boards....

RMA'ing a processor you know to have violated the terms of the warrenty constitutes mail fraud. Be advised that it is not only unethical but also illegal. Some of these processors are very valuable (think Extreme editions). RMA'ing a processor with a null warrenty is similar to insurance fraud.

And the police look at the boards for the the ones want marijuana legal aswell, but I don't really mind, I don't write anything on this forum that I in real life can't stand for

Saying something is "like this", don't make it "this is right", and it defenetively don't make it "this is the truth"

Big deal. Anyone who fries their CPU by over-clocking and over-volting it that much doesn't deserve a free replacement and shouldn't even ask for one.

It works like that in Norway aswell... the retailer checks if its faulty, if so, they send a new product if in stock and then, first THEN they send the faulty one back to supplyer Gotta love it, that's the right phrase

    So whats a issue here
Cpu needs a clock and voltage
It dont matter what kind food you give to it to run it
As long is no visual harware damadge rite?

    Like someomne says here
"Who burn cpu are noobs at clocking" i agree with this 1

So where is a limit to brake INTEL AMD warranty!!???!?
    0.5% ?
    5% ?
50% ? at Voltage and freq??

I didint see any warnings here!!!
NOT ORIGINAL BOX TOO SO WTF im yust wasting time here on this AMD INTEL BS ISSUE and i whant to play!!!

This is complete Bull spread by the AMD lover Fuad.
This clearly his tactic to "scare" new and some old overclockers into switching to AMD systems so they dont have to worry about RMA.

I'm getting sick of Fuad's BS, It's total rubbish and 99.9999999% of the crap he posts on his site is he came up with while sittin on the ter.

There is a voltage range and a max frequency specced on the box, along with its TDP requirements. IŽll say they are covered in terms of that part.

I dont believe in the "black box" part tho.

As soon as you overclock something, you void the warranty. If the overclocked item brakes for whatever reason, its your fault. Ypu have no right to RMA it.

But the blackbox sounds interesting. Much better than CPU-Z validation lmao
Now we have to be able to read the blackbox.

I have my doubts that something like this exist, just because it would be frikkin hard to realize. If it has actually be done and works, hats off!

I don't think its an actual black box. Its more like a method for determining if a CPU was overclocked or not. Perhaps by running current through it and looking at the electron patterns/leaks...

One thing that we need to know is, does the user get their chip back, or does intel keep them?

I see what I see, and you see what you see. I can't make you see what I see, but I can tell you what I see is not what you see. Truth is, we see what we want to see, and what we want to see is what those around us see. And what we don't see is... well, conspiracies.

probably costs them more to hire people to check whether they've been overclocked than just to give RMA's to the very small number of people who actually fry their processors by overclocking.

the only problem i could see is that they should define wht exactly voids ur warranty.

cause its pretty normal that a 1800mhz CPU is running at 1801mhz or something like that. Does that 1mhz more also qualify as overclocking and thus voiding ur warranty.

or for them motherboards that have the bios option to overclock 10% etc.

and seeing that its usually the voltage that kills the CPU id say they should change it that u void ur warranty if u up the vcore. But then again u also got motherboards that overvolt.

this isnt some crazy new policy intel is making they are just letting everyone know that they can check on you if you really blow something. i highly doubt they have any way of knowing if you ran at 1800 or 4000mhz, but i bet they can tell if you ran 200 watts of current through thier 65 watt cpu.

Agreed. I have fried a few CPU's in my day and I have never once tried to RMA them. Doing so is completely unethical.

In short, both AMD and NVIDIA discovered that their next-generation graphics cards are superior to each others' last-generation graphics cards.

personally if my chip dies I would RMA as long as no physical damage was done to it. I remember when I went through a bad batch of XP 1800+s and I wasn't overclocking them I put them in and they would break down during a linux kernel compile. The hard thing about stress testing dual cores is things that work on single cores don't even come close to stress testing a dual core even if you run more than one instance of the program and force it to run on a certain core. it's a good orthos blend works well. I hope intel just RMAs the X chips and doesn't check them, because that's their publicly OCed chip.

nice guess but if they went that route they might as well put some sort of bar code in the chip that would have the info in it so they could just scan it rather than having to plug it in. I think the extra cost of 128 gates would be too much and raise the price of the chip.
