I thought I read that somewhere but I could be wrong?

On a separate note Mushkin just released a new PC2-9200 kit rated for 5-5-4-12, not bad for 1150Mhz! Unfortunelty their not the cheapest kit around at $424.99, lol! Might be worth checking Kemo for the first page?

i think the Ballistix also uses 8 layers now but not that sure any way with that Mushkin go directly
here and use XS VIP code to get it for 364$ cheap ha

Not those but THESE are D9GKX but you can't find them anymore.

Hey Kemo, I'm going to get rid of my Patriot RAM, I also have some OCZ 9200 Flex XLC that will be going for sale so I'll just be keeping the Firestix 8000, Ballistix 8000 and 5400ULs as I'm retiring from memory whoring...LOL Oh yeah, ClubIT has one Patrio Kit ha ha ha for $389.

It should be the other way around because I've owned several of both kits and trust me that the Extreme Edition are D9GKX.

    Question

hi fellas. Im wondering if anyone knows any details of these Geil ram at newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820144062

i noticed the wide range of voltage the specs list 1.9 - 2.4v and what im wondering is if these will do 900-950 range on laxed timings(going in an am2 build) ? They come at 4-4-4, so thats why im wndering if anyone has firsthand knowledge if they will get to 950 max(good enough for my needs). Just trying to see how cheap i can go here. Thanks for your time.

From the reviews in newegg they seem to do 900-1000 and this fourm (Here) they are geting the same. Most people in these parts don't take to kindly to geIl tho. I would go with the g.skill HK if you want a sure thing.

i have almost considered sending back my HZ's to exchange for the ballistix 1000's since they are only about $20 more once the rebate comes in, i am wondering if that is even worth it.

    HZ update

I just bumped my vFSB and my vMCH to +.3 which is max on the ds3 rev 3.3, and tried to hit 1125 with 2.5v to the memory, wasn't happening, very unstable, bios would freeze often, and even memtest pulled through with about 2000 errors in like 2 seconds. I think i got a kit that wasn't meant to oc very well.

Seems the ballistix rebate ends today, otherwise i would have exchanged these HZ's for those and just waited on the rebate.

The HZ's subtimings are extremely tight, that's why people are having trouble hitting higher clocks with them. If you could post a screenshot of memset with your HZ's on 1000mhz+ clocks we could help you out.

    QFT

    i sold mine.

they were freakin' fast at stock with all auto sub-timings but were hard to o/c w/o loosening the subtimings A LOT.

Also, if you change to option 2 for the Dram dll settings I believe it changes the drive strength.

Great point Hutch, my 8000HZ's (4-4-4-5) had extremlty tight sub-timings by default and needed to be loosened substantially for any decent clocking. With that said they were by far the fastest modules at 1000Mhz I ever used! Zbomb have you verified what IC's your F2-8000PHU2-2GBHZ's are running? It would be great to know because their known to come with a few different chips? Also where did you get them and how long ago? Thanks for your help!

Also try Ras to Cas 5 and if all that doesn't work try 5-5-5-15 timings to see if that gets you higher clocks. If it doesn't it means you're probably chipset limited.

It seems that the DS3 is ignoring most of the settings in the SPD of the ram. I get pretty much the same sub-timings with my crap sticks (they're either elpida or powerchip.)

i haven't verified, i figure the only way to do that is to remove the heat spreaders, which i don't feel too comfortable doing. I received them last monday, so it has been less than a week since i got them. They had the black pcb. Purchased from newegg.

I know someone else that bought them from newegg about a month ago, and they are running 4-4-4-12 1000 @ 2.1v which is great, but i can't manage that unless i do 2.2v.

I messed with a few things, i changed those settings in memset, then i figured i would play with overclocking the memory, but the only way to do that is to change the memory multiplier in bios and then overclock in windows, but when i changed the multiplier to 2.5, it cold booted and reset my settings, and i was trying to boot at 400fsb with ddr2 1000, so then i changed the memory multiplier to 3 and did about 350 fsb and it booted. I then tried to mess with overclocking, but cpuz didn't read my memory timings, either did memset, seemed like the memory wasn't being recognized.

I did change the fsb to 370 so x3 would be ddr2 1110 and ran super pi with that, a lot slower than usual also, like 22 sec, i normally do 16 sec.

I really just feel like playing with this memory is a waste, i probably got some ic's that aren't d9gmh which sucks. I think i will just wait for the ballistix pc8000 to come in.

So here is a question, and i was wondering which you would choose.

Crucial Ballistix pc8000 ddr2 1000 costs me about $215 shipped w/ tax once the rebate comes in. I need to wait for a $50 rebate, maybe 2 months. I have these on order, but i have till tomorrow to cancel them.

    Or

I can get the Buffalo Firestix pc8000 ddr2 1000 for $210 shipped (but i would have to wait for the next shipment, and who knows if they will still use GKX).

so any choices and reasoning would be helpful for me to make this decision.

The pc2 1000 Ballistx should destroy that low bin gkx, I would wait a wile for the Crucials. Most of the pros around here cant preach enough about how amazing they are. I am waiting for a good deal on them myself.

Here are a few Ballistx deals I found, quite low compared to newegg almost 100$ cheaper on the 6400's

    Ballistix 2GB (1GBx2) DDR2-677 = 160$
    Ballistix Tracer 2GB (1GBx2) DDR2-667 = 167$
    Ballistix 2GB (1GBx2) DDR2-800 PC2-6400
    = 176$
    Ballistix Tracer 2GB (1GBx2) DDR2-800 PC2-6400 = 183$

    Theres also...
Ballistix 2GB (1GBx2) DDR2-1066 = 317$ ... If you feel the need to blow some cash

I think i will just wait for the ballistix pc8000 to come in.

    i use 8000HZ with date code (SN) : 0634
i have verified mine are D9GKX and runs at its rated speed pretty easy.

thanks for the opinion term, maybe ill wait for my ballistix then, should be here tuesday, barely made it in time for the rebate since i ordered at 11:40 pm and the charge processed at 11:57 pm on 4/13 and that was the last day of the rebate.

I am out about $262 currently, but hoping for the $50 rebate to come in.

How did you verify the date code to be d9gkx, is there somewhere to reference?

    UPDATE:

HZ's were able to hit 1185 stable w/ 2.45v 5-5-5-18 in my cousin's p5b deluxe, so most likely it is my mobo that doesn't allow over 1090 memory speeds, even after playing with subtimings and all multipliers. Kind of sucks, but whatever. Maybe ill swap out the mobo someday.

Well since you're able to get around 500mhz fsb, drop the multi to 2.5 and the Fsb to 401. That'll give you 1000mhz. Use setfsb21a to overclock, make sure you have all your voltages set correctly. When you boot at lower memory speeds, the board will tighten the memory timings. Make sure you have active cooling on both your ram and northbridge. Any FSB over 333mhz really needs a fan over the northbridge. I've got an 80mm over mine, with nothing over the ram usually (1.9V doesn't even warm the heatspreaders.) When I bench, I usually bench in sub-freezing ambient temps...

Of course your pi times are going to go down when you set the FSB lower, you have an e6300 therefor the cpu will be clocked slower. You should be aiming for your max fsb (which is around 490?) with the multi set to 2.5x, which would result is a memory speed about 1180.
