SilenX fans really what they say???

I was just looking at some of those SilenX fans and they claim to have some pretty crazy DBA to CFM ratio.

I was wondering if they really are what they claim to be. Cuz i've seen some other fans claim they're 90cfm but when i put it next to my panaflo it feels like nothing.

They claim 90cfm at 1400RPM??? thats pretty low. I'm not saying its impossible but i'm pretty skeptical considering a panaflo needs to spin at about 2200rpm to get the same results.

If its true and they can get 90cfm at 18dba i'm all for it and i'd switch out pretty much all my fans.

In a word "No", they're rebadged rubbish. I have 2 in my pc and wish i didnt buy them.

I've bought and tested these. They are NOT what they say they are. The 12cm version is louder than the Silverstone 12cm, which is rated @21db, a far cry from the 14Db silenx advertises.
The same is true for their smaller fans.

SilenX has a dodgy marketing scheme, you'll never get close to those numbers. The way they actually work, 14db is the quietest at low speed and 90cfm is at high speed, with probably 45db or so.

Very deceiving marketing, indeed. Naughty naughty.

Notuca Has made some new 120mm fans. If you have the money, SCPR recomended them very highly.

I think you mean noctua? Noctua fan's are nice. Very silent and stil a good airflow (for the amount of db's they make). So if you are building a silent system these are very nice. But for extreme air cooling, and a superduper airflow these are not the one's. 6 year's warrenty is also nice

Id highly reccomend the silverstone ones featured in vapors fan roundup thread.

mix of good noise to air ratio.

Take a look at Vapor's tests...
Most fans on the market have BS ratings, thermaltake is another good example. 16dba at 70cfm? You kidding me??????

Yea I have noticed that. But in my case it has very open vents thus the fans still push some amount of air. I want slient from the get go. No fan controller ect.. and these fans do the job

I took a look at vapor's charts. Seemed like the panaflo's performed fairly well. I got some monstrously loud Delta in my computer and I didn't quite know what I was getting into before buying it.

I tried looking for some dapening material but I couldn't really find any place to sell it. I know there's some specialty computer shops that sell it but i refuse 2 buy it when i know some place that sells sound insulation will sell it for 1/5 the price.

that is what I was going to ask. What part of the specs are lies? The CFM, the noise level or both? I can see the noise level being grossly exaggerated, but even if noisier than it states does it still push the amount of air it states?

For those that don't know or remember one of the reasons many of us don't trust SilenX is their shady marketing practices. You should read this:

then judge for yourself if they are credible. After what they pulled I will never buy from them even if they hit the specs, which they never ever do.

The problem is there is no standard measuring distance for the dBa rating on fans, they could measure it from 12" or 60" and get drastically different measurements.

I personally use Sanyo Denki's undervolted, great static pressure, they move about as much air as my 80CFM deltas but at a lower voltage and are quiet.

Well, there's only one way to tell for sure. Let's see if Vapor would be willing to test one of the silenx fans! I would be willing to donate one if he agrees to. That would be the first test that I have seen. After all, we should try to be objective right?

Wondering if anyone knows which would push more air at 12v, a Yate loon D12SL-12 or a SilenX. I am talking about one of the original SilenX that were black in colour, rated for 14dba, 1600rpm and 58CFM. Not one of the newer Silver Ixtrema based SilenX that are said to push even more air at same noise levels. The Yate loon are 28dba, 1350rpm and 47cfm.

Based on RPM (the one rating they rarely bluff on)....I'd say it's safe to say the SilenX would push more air at 12V.

Thats their ratingsystem which obvious isnt legit. I would guess they are actually rated at 600-1100RPM 14-16CFM which obviously is silent but not anywhere near those official numbers.
