    RD-20's and RD-30's at Petra's?

Who better to ask than you guys, right?

Anyway, I've been looking into it and am currently in the process of obtaining availability and pricing for both the RD-20 and RD-30 and, basically, I'm wondering if you guys would like to see us stock those pumps. Now, for those of you who are gonna complain about needing a dedicated Meanwell PSU or similar to use the pumps, I've been directed toward a company who, apparently, worked with Iwaki to produce 12V to 24V DC/DC converters who's output is adjustable down to about 17VDC, IIRC. The best part about the DC/DC converters is that they're very inexpensive (~$30) and would plug right into one of your computer's 4-pin molex connectors (with a little modification on my part).

    So, any takers?

I have many thoughts on this subject but I am going to refrain from speaking my opinion here. The one thing I will say is that I was THE FIRST to have an RD Iwaki and well, look at my sig and you will notice there is no Iwaki in it.

Well, considering that Laing USA only has about a 6 month supply of DDC-2's left and no production commitment for a replacement as of yet (aka DDC-3.3).... and the DDC-3.2 (current 18W blue impellered DDC) is a joke (may as well use a D5). Short of dropping everything that I'm working on, reverse engineering the DDC-3.2's motor, and seeing if any performance improvements can be made (which I do plan on taking a stab at, when I have time), I kinda do see the RD-20 and RD-30 acting as viable substitutes for some people (obviously, not everybody).

They are great pumps no doubt about it. I bet if you stock a few you will sell them. I don't know much about the 20 other than it is the same size as the 30. The 30 is best when run at 17-18v anyway.

What are the chances of getting custom ones that run on 12V? Would the higher minimum quantity buy be prohibitive?

As long as its plug and play operation I'm all for it. If we can simply plug this sucker into our PSU with no mods or extra hardware like another PSU then its all good. The RD20 is a waste IMO. If it was smaller than the RD30 then yes I see being an option but since its not...

And thats a huge drain on any 12v PS from everything I've read. Even then, not plug and play. takes some work to get them in and set up inside the case, they're about 4.5x4.5" square in reagrds to how much space they take up inside the case. Maybe a little more. and you need room for the converter, a 5.5 inch bay I believe.

That's one of the reasons why people go with two 12v DC pumps in series if they need higher flow rates.

    andyc

I understand that it will need a converter. That's fine. What i don't want is another PSU that I would need to hang somewhere. Space is really not an issue. I have a G70 and plenty of space. I have two DDC-2 running in the same loop. I just want a little more reliability that the Iwaki will offer.

Really... Shoot I guess I had better get the money saved up fast so I can get stuff purchased before the DDC disappears for awhile, that would suck Though I guess the D5 is a good alternative, I still haven't totally decided between the D5 and the DDC. Maybe because I can't buy the stuff yet so I haven't had much of a reason to make up my mind

Why are people looking down at the RD20? From its specs, it doesn't seem like a weak pump. In fact it seems pretty powerful.
In the future when I get a few more bucks in my pocket I might go on ebay and get a super cheap RD and I'll get a converter from you
BTW people who are considering to go with a chiller will like to have RD series pumps at Petra's

Yeah but the 20 and 30 are the same size... the 30 can easily be a 20 when you LOWER the voltage... the 20 can NEVER be as powerful as the 30 though.

but when you lower the 30's power, is the heat dump equal to the 20's at that flow rate/head level? I'm not doubting, i'm just wondering.

Yes they are expensive, but if you want a multi block loop and want to move heat and water, then I would advise someone to pick one up, also the pump is NOT loud, unless you turn it up to 24V, and it has a LONG! Life potential.
Good points phelan. Having a supplier of spare parts would be nice. (missing the option in the poll for previous owners )

I wouldn't worry about that (if you can afford an expensive pump like that I think that would be the least of your concerns regarding performance) and the difference wouldn't be too big right?
Would it be okay to compare RD20 and RD30 to DDC (10W) and 18W?

There are a total of 7 parts, none of which I would assume Petra's would keep on hand...

My biggest beef with this is the odd size of the Meanwell PSU. Maybe I am wrong about this, but its unfortunate that the Meanwell does not have the same dimensions as a regular PSU and therefore cannot be easily mounted into a regular PSU bay. Another thing that I do not like, and maybe I am also wrong about this, is that the connection to the Meanwell consists of bare wire. The safety of some sort of molex connector would be good. Other than that, I would be in the market for RDs.

so are thermochills. but i realized, something is expensive for a reason.

As i have stated above, you guys are goign to make me drop more money on your store when you carry that.

Ive been wanting an RD30, but if you can somehow make it look all nice and neat inside, with a custom relay.

I voted OMFG Yes, give us both because more choice is always better for the consumer :-) I probably wouldn't buy either. I think they make too much noise. However I have only heard the 120 volt pumps. I also think they are kind of huge.

Sorry this is offtopic but I figured it'd be the best way to get you to see it.
Marci has gotten a reply back from Saint Gobain plastics, and they said that Tygon R2075 (ester based polyurethane tubing) was the best tubing for "our" application.
So are you thinking about stocking some polyurethane tubing (and of course the expensive tygon type for the rich ppl )?

    Alex you are Da Man!

What size power supply will be needed to power the RD30?
