3.6ghz will not put much strain on the PWM. Its when you go higher with higher vcore not even a 120mm fan will cool those suckers down. The middle pwms will always be hotter. I think heat is the limiting factor on this board. Cooling those pwms down is almost impossible.

I replaced the TM on the PWM's with AS5 and my temps are also around 60degrees. Stock voltage.

This weekend I'll be replacing it with Ceramique and have a 70mm fan to put on it so I hope that will improve things.

Can anyone help me with these? What can be the problem? They apear after the "Welcome" screen and sometimes when loading Winblowz. They appear even at stock speeds.

Try to disable all advanced settings in the bios that aren't "needed". I had this same problem until I did this, I got the BSOD ONLY at boot or not at all. This was with a fresh install of XP. I started getting it all the time, especially w/ default bios settings. Try to disable as much as you can then re-boot and try to reproduce the BSOD. Let me know what happens.

60 Fan over the sink.

I did but no AS5 i put Zalman thermal paste and removed everything on heatsink completely so is the thermal compound touching the heatsink, mine temps are below 50

I guess I'll have to reap off all those rubers and stuff on the HS, maybe that will help. Before this my testing temps were OK, just added a low-RPM fan and gain something like 10 degrees C.

Been there, done that. The BSOD was "thanks" to Core Temp 0.95, I had it on start-up list. Now it's gone and no more BSODs.

Guys you don't have to cut the heat pipe(voiding your warranty).
The fins are soldered onto the heat pipe.
You can remove it by using a map gas torch.

My heatpipe spins on the HS. I guess it's not very well placed, that's why I have those temp.

Remounted and stabiliyed at 48-50*C. Better now. And it's warmer in the room.

Now I need to find how the heck to OC this over PSB 400 MHz.

IMPORTANT! - READ BELOW!

Okay, before y'all fill Nelly's pm box asking for a copy of this BIOS, I've had a look at it, and it is not the universal answer to everybody's prayers, so read the following and count to ten before you do anything:

1) It *is* a new *beta* BIOS, build 11 beta 7, compiled on 13/03/07.

2) It appears as though the power management is broken in the same way that B06's was. As such, you do not get any dynamic voltage management, and I strongly suspect that those of you who experienced stuck multipliers will continue to do so with this one

3) The BIOS now seems to function properly when the ICH8R is selected to run in RAID mode. The AHCI option ROM also runs during POST. This should allow those of you who want to connect optical drives to the SATA1-6 ports while also running the controller in RAID mode to do so.

It also appears as though the boot device prioritisation has been properly fixed (the "fix" in B06 was a temporary kludge).

4) As a result of the fix above, the POST process now takes longer due to the AHCI ROM enumerating the attached hard disks.

5) I am unaware as yet if there are any changes at a performance/overclocking/memory level - Nelly will hopefully be looking at this aspect later.

In short, the only issue that this BIOS seems intended to address is the full functionality of the ICH8 RAID controller + optical drive problem. I have not tested yet whether it is actually fixed, but see no reason why it won't work - I'll find out for sure later.

As such, the only people who, at time of writing, will appear to gain an advantage from this new BIOS are those wanting to mix a RAID array and optical drives on the SATA1-6 ports. For anyone else, this build is arguably a backward step over B6R.

Of course there should be room for a "B7R", but I need to more fully understand what is in this new release before I know what I can change on it.

Yes.I also had to cut small triangle piece off Tuniq's fan to get it mounted.Tuniq is custom-mounted.

And there is 6 small rubber door-stoppers under the motherboard
against warping.

MB temp is ~29-30

Xeon3060 both cores in normal use @ 3.6 (1.4950v bios ATM) ~ 28-30.

I think I figured out the PWM heat issue. It is due to the board flexing when you tighten down your heatsink or waterblocks. Tightening down heatsinks will cause the board to concave. I know cause I cracked that Pulse thingy. With the mobo bowed, the middle PWMs aren't making good contact causing temps to soar. I noticed that the first and last PWM is relatively cool around 56. Yes I've cut the heatpipes. My solution is to get a backplate like the Thermalright one. Its only useful if you have a Fuzion waterblock. I will be testing tonight hoping that my stuff arrives.

Yeah, I am also close to max OC with stock cooled 8800GTX but i am not going to put water on mine.

I just noticed that I need to do the Vcore-mod too. I need more voltage... Maybe I will do all the mods when I am at it.

At the moment I have trouble with 474 & 477MHz FSB. Higher voltages do not help and temps are ok. Now I do think that it might be NB-cooling related.

LittleLaLa: Thanks for the picture of the PWM-cooling! I did not think that far... All I knew was that I did not want to cut the pipe of the stockcooler.

how did you get those heatsink on the PWM? There are little curcuit thingies that are actually higher than the pwm chips. Thermal epoxy doesn't work cause it came off pretty easily on mine. Also how are its temps? Can you show a screen shot of uguru? Thanks.

Well, just reinstalled windows and now I can boot at atleast 480*8 with aircooling.

This BIOS is not supported by abit, do not call technical support, do not get upset if it creates more issues than it solves, and most of all realize that the BIOS engineers are doing their best to get our issues solved quickly. This BIOS incorporates a few updates that Rich did in B06R, adds a couple of performance fixes, and takes a step or two back in a areas such as eSATA and IDE devices not working together on the JMicron controller and power management is not perfect yet.

I went back to B07, B08 for me seems to have trouble with multi. I put 400x8 i bios and booted up and cpu-z says 400x6. No mather what settings i keep stay on x6. Now with B07 i trying to find an stable 24/7 and this is what i reached for now.



Vcore: 1,4850 in bios and Uguru shows ~1,45
DDR2: 2,300
Cpu Vtt: 1,30
Mch: 1,50
Ich: 1,10
IchIo: 1,5

Can run dual super pi 32mb and going thru Nature and Lobby high without problem. And i call it 24/7 stable. No problem playing WOW to Will try to lower the vcore a bit more. But only ~1,45vcore for 3,6ghz i thinks it´s pretty okey, or have i wrong? Cooling the PWM sink with a 40mm adda fan.

WOW what a board this is took literally 5 minutes to setup bios and 2-3 restarts to boot xp @ 3.6 Ghz (only primed an hour so far) !!! not one glitch first boot it warned about cpu fan not running but thats it im amazed how smooth it was !!

Build quality feels good aswell asus p5w-dh , p5b deluxe , p5w 64 ws feels like some 50$ boards in comparison to this one (atleast the ones iwe had) both build quality and bios feel much better.

And this on the bios my board was delivered with cant wait to try the newer ones and try oc'ing a bit more aming for 3.9ish stable

D-tek fuzion aint bad either cpu temps are amazing . real low ambients atm though so want list them untill i test with 23-24c ambient.
