    CFX3200M2/G AM2 version

durnit... guys anyone got experience with this board and overclock?
the motherboard is a CFX3200m2/G am2 socket version? been having issues with this board

it has been running 260 @ 11xcpu fine but memory bandwidth tested with sandra was 56xx/55xx (5-5-5-14)

running stock 200x13 settings with 4-4-4-12 the memory bandwidth was 60xx/60xx
    (Sandra tested)

doesn't want to run 1T at even 200 stock speeds even at 5-5-5-15 (stock ratings for my memory are 3-3-3-8)
    here is my memory:http://www.tankguys.biz/ddr2-3338-p-1676.html

    2 Gb Kit DDR2 (2 x 1Gb) 3-3-3-8 667 Mhz
    TXDD2048M667HC3DC-M
    Memory Chip Type: Micron D9GMH

also, anyone have overclocks with this memory?

I'm running into problems overclocking and such with this motherboard even though its supposed to be one of the best for settings and overclocking.

I'm to the point where i honestly am fed up with AMD boards... and I want to sell my whole setup and get the Intel Core 2 duo. as i can keep my watercooling kit.

Increase max async latency to 8ns or 10ns.

Set the DRAM termination in BIOS manually to 50 ohms.

Those two little changes netted me another 38MHz with my 590 board, from 490 to 528.

Also running at 1T is a function of the IMC and motherboard, even if you RAM is spec'd for it, your CPU and motherboard may not be able to do it.

If you can't adjust those settings in the BIOS menu, you're basically at the mercy of the BIOS. You should be able to do DDR2-1000 4-4-4 with your RAM, use the DDR2-400 divider to max out your CPU then start pushing the RAM.

already got that and printed it out. guess i gotta overclock just 1 step at a time...

also, whats this: DDR2-400 divider to max out your CPU then start pushing the RAM. whats this divider? ddr2-400? does that mean set the DDR2 at the certain rate like 400/667 etc etc

yes, i feel stupid right about........now

    LMAO.

i previously had a 939 socket 3500+ and if it wasn't for lack of voltage i could have hit 3+ghz on it....i was sittin at 2.8ghz and thats all it would go without modding it...didn't want to mod it

    ddr2-400? that's 1:1
    533 is 4:3
    667 is 5:3
    800 is 2:1

and memory speed is calcuated the same way as always with K8: cpu/x
x = ceiling( cpu multi / memory ratio)

so if i set 320x9 with the ddr2-800 ratio
    320*9 = 2880mhz
    ceiling( 9 / (2/1) ) = ceiling( 4.5 ) = 5

    2880mhz / 5 = 576mhz
Got a fan over those memory sticks? No? Well get to it before you kill them

Not quite, it depends on the stock CPU speed and the CPU multiplier.

Keep in mind the lowest divider is 5.

With a 1.6GHz CPU, the base HTT is 200MHz, and the CPU uses a 8x multiplier to get 1.6GHz.

The RAM uses a divider of the final CPU speed, in this example, 1.6GHz, to calculate the RAM speed.

To get 200MHz (DDR2-400) you have to divide 1.6GHz by 8. So with a 1.6GHz CPU the DDR2-400 setting uses a /8 on the final CPU speed.

To get 266MHz (DDR2-533) you have to divide by 1.6GHz by 6.

To get 333MHz (DDR2-667) you have to divide by 5. I know what you're thinking, 1600/5 = 320 not 333! Well even if there was a lower divider like /4, 1600/4 = 400 which is over the DDR2-667 specification, so the next higher number is used.

Anyway, the gist of it is, depending on the CPU used, the dividers will be different. Example with 2.4GHz CPU:

    For DDR2-400, /12
    For DDR2-533, /9
For DDR2-667, /8 (this is one of the weird ones, since /7 would result in a number higher than 333)
    For DDR2-800, /6

The upshot of it is, with a 2.4GHz CPU that uses a 12x multiplier, the RAM speed ALWAYS depends on the final CPU speed. So if you overclock to 250x12=3000, the dividers stay the same but the RAM speed is faster, i.e.:

    3000/12 = 250 DDR2-500 on the DDR2-400 setting
    3000/9 = 333 DDR2-667 on the DDR2-533 setting
    3000/8 = 375 DDR2-750 on the DDR2-667 setting
    3000/5 = 500 DDR2-1000 on the DDR2-800 setting

Now it just so happens that those ratios listed in the quote above match up with the 3000 example. But it doesn't fit with a 1.6GHz CPU:

    1600/8 = 200
    1600/6 = 266
    1600/5 = 320
    1600/5 = 320

The situation is even more hairy with the newer AM2 CPUs that use 0.5 multipliers. The RAM ratios are messed up and in some cases, it is impossible to get true DDR2-800 performance at stock settings.

Check out this AM2 divider chart for more info:

that chart...how do you go about reading it exactly....LOL.

for instance if i was doing the x11 cpu multiplier ??

i also notice what your saying about the DDR2-xxx... as the DFI board tells you what speed your ram is running once you make the change

also, CPUZ 1.38 shows my Clocks as follows (so far):
    Core Speed: 2861 MHz
    Mult = 11
    Bus speed = 260
HT Link = 1040 (this is then doubled correct?) cuz i remember its supposed to be around 2000

memory timings right now are 4-4-4-12-14 @ 2T
stable for 3days w/plent of gaming

The chart is easy to use. On the left, pick a HTT speed that's closest to whatever you're using to overclock. Say with the 11x multiplier you're using 230 HTT, so that's closest to 233. Move in the same row to the right, and you'll see if you set your BIOS to the different divider settings what you resulting RAM speed will be. So with 233 HTT, you get DDR2-466, DDR2-570, DDR2-732, DDR2-854.

The numbers picked in the leftmost column are simply convenient intervals, you don't have to set your HTT to those exact values.

Forget about running 1T. If you can't make 1T at slower than stock RAM speed it's your CPU.

anyone got any settings for this? I now have the 8ns,9ns,10ns BIOS's for this board... should I just load the 8ns and see what happens?

I'm to the point to where I want to order the M2R32-MVP due to the fact a friend not far from me had the cfx3200m2/g and at stock speeds it would give him errors and such. It would also not display on ALL of his 37 inch monitor, there was a gap all the way around it. He swapped out to the M2R32-mvp and it gets full screen and has no errors..... I had an old DFI board for my 32bit setup back in the day and i luved it...got an overclock from (800mhz mobile processor...1.8ghz loaded) to 2.5ghz and would have done more but that was too much heat on air cooling.. now I just cannot stand this freakin cfx3200m2/g am2 motherboard

A lot of people have had problems with that board. The thing is that it uses an older chipset, and a lot of people have said that causes problems.

What RAM are you using? You may want to look into the board I have. It's in my sig. It's cheap and great.
