That is the reason why I didnt bother posting. Some people think they are better than everyone else.
Seriously guys, I've taken off more spreaders than I can shake a stick at.... but these IC's literally fall right off, esp combined with the super sticky tape that they use. I did the same thing! Go ahead, make fun of me also.
Give the guy a break, these are UNKNOWN IC's... GEIL is the only one selling them. You should be thanking him so you dont buy the same kit.
Sheesh.
Anyway, dont listen to those guys.

@trans am, don't feel bad man. i did that with a cherry micron based crucial kit, i called crucial told them i F'd up and they said they could repair it under RMA, so i sent it back, they returned me a new kit, and i did it againthis time i just bit it and threw them away. i heated them both times, i've done it hundreds of other times, i'm not sure what happened these two times. but that really sucked.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Such a retarded thing to say... "you got pwned"
Why?
Because I was curious?
I wasn't going to say anything but this guy just pissed me off. Please show some respect. Why would you join the best overclocking forum in the world if you are going to post remarks like this? It defeats the whole purpose. And it makes xs look bad because other members will be discouraged to contribute..

lol what support can i give?
i mean the guy just pried the spreaders and the memory maker got him first.
i mean.. comments could be made here right?
good or bad? its only words.
why else would op share pics?
what encouraging comments can i give? "glue it back?"
Try something along the lines of "Thanks for having the balls to share information on these sticks despite probably not being in the best of moods after making a mistake and opening yourself up to comments from jerks who believe the best time to kick someone is when they are already down because its easier." Notice the positive spirit?Yep. Just words but they seem to affect people.
If some thoughtless words lead others to believe you are a jerk, when in fact you are not, an apology might be in order to the forum members for giving the wrong impression. If jerkiness is a chronic condition you suffer from ... well, then an apology is not due, and your condition is duly noted.Your prior posts seem pretty benign so I'm guessing it was just a lapse in judgment.

Good stuff for posting mate, sorry for your loss though
Don't let the "Xtreme Ego's" get to you, if you sift them out this place is pretty good![]()
I don't know what everyone's talking about saying these sticks suck? Sure they're not micron but a cheap set of DDR2 2gb sticks that will do DDR1000 with ease is pretty good imho.
r00n, I'm pretty sure that the GeIL Ultra DDR800 stuff mainly uses Elpidia and Powerchip ICs in their current production runs.

Well I apologise, I originally posted "ROFL" for the simple fact it looked 'funny' seeing the IC's stuck to the heat spreaders. Forgive me but I couldn't help it.
But I do appreciate the balls you had to do this and inform the XS members of the result. I had to pull the heat spreaders off my Team Xtreem PC2-6400 set as they were not overclocking well and the curiosity got better of me. It was a big risk but I had to do it for my own personal satisfaction. So I know how you feel before you did it, takes courage to risk throwing $$$ away when you ain't a rich fat bastard![]()

gundamit said it well. but gundamit i don't think those firestix are guaranteed micron.
and to everyone... if it wasn't for attempts like this we would never know what most of the ICs really are. few manufactures give out those kinds of specs and there aren't many people with the balls to rip off the heatspreaders. so don't kick someone when something goes wrong while they're trying to help the community.

That is one thing I was afraid of when attempting to remove the heatspreader on some sticks. Glue is too strong and ic connection not strong enough.
