Hi, I'm imagining this has probably been asked a million times, so I figure once more won't hurt

I'm looking to contribute some of my computing power, and am looking for something that'd make the most use. I see that fah has an smp version. But I'm curious if it supports sse2/3? I recall skimming around and seeing something about how deadlines are assigned with a p4 2.8 with sse2 disabled. Does this mean fah has the optimizations in place for sse2? I was running rosetta, but noticed that it doesn't carry any sse optimizations, although I saw links to such, although they're all seemingly dead links now.

The SMP versions are a slightly different setup, and I think the benchmarks come from an Intel Mac for those - have a little sift through http://forum.folding-community.org/forums.html for more information. I do see the message 'Extra SSE boost OK' when I fire up the clients, but I can't remember if it's plain SSE or SSE2/3. The Rosetta optimisations were regarded by some as a hack/cheat because they altered the points benchmark, but there's plenty already been written on that subject, and it's a BOINC-based project, whereas f@h has it's own clients

I hope Folding@home becomes your project, it has its quirks but it's a good project & will work your CPU hard, there are a few ways to run it on a rig like yours, so weigh up the options.

    I'm in, too.

I was really addicted to F@H a few years ago but you know... You grow up and real life kicks you in the arse.

Having a 1950pro just for browsing and reading emails is just plain stupid.

Tell me... the X19xx vgas are really that great at F@H as I've been reading?
Murray Walker: "And there are flames coming from the back of Prost's McLaren as he enters the Swimming Pool."

James Hunt: "Well, that should put them out then."

    Welcome to F@H
And yes I might know what are you talking about real life but nice to have you back to folding

I do not know about gpu folding, but can guess the coming R600 (preferably R650) would kick arse (again ) with some quad core and SMP-client. That's my plan I had... then I couldn't wait and bought 8800GTS.
Oh well... with only dual core... I'm happy with SMP-client. I believe scientists are too.

I guess I'll join too. I've been doing some personal folding for past year, so it's about time I join a team.

    Edit: Finally my first post.

I just downloaded the client and set it up

I am running this on my temporary comp, until I build my new gaming machine.

    Specs:

    E6300, Intel DG965WH, 4gb DDR2 667, 2 Raptor X's in Raid 0, 6600GT/128mb.

I am also using a wireless router, but I can't get F@H starting to work. All it does on any of the computers is benchmarking etc, but it does not get past "Attempting to get work packet". I have tested both the console and the graphical version, same problem. Could anyone help me how to set up Folding@home and my router?

First of all... welcome Don Dan.

Secondly: do you've configured your f@h exactly like in the setup guide?

Hi and thanks for your fast reply. I just deleted every rest of F@H and installed the console version again, and configured it according to the post. I will now make a restart and then report again!

I downloaded FaHMon to monitor the clients, but I'm not sure if I typed in the address of the clients correctly, because both clients are marked yellow/ orange. However, my computer is running at a load of 90 % and the taskmanager that two FahCore_78.exe are running.
