I wonder if I would notice any difference in speed or gaming If i changed from an E6600 to the Q6600?
this chart looks promising:

Current Setup:
-9850 GX2's in Quad SLI config
-Asus P5N32-SLI MB
-2x512mb of PC2-5300 DDR2
-Intel Celeron D OC'd to 3.2Ghz
-Windows Me with XP theme
-WD Caviar 20GB Hard Drive
-Zip drive
-Jazz drive
-3.5" floppy drive
-5.25" floppy drive
Right now I just run it @ 3300-3350 on stock voltage, idle temps are 40-50s depending on ambients, and how long its on, blah blah... on stock it pulls ~360ish watts, but I also have 8800GTX SLI, so I would think that 100+ more watts than a normal stock E6600 is 100% possible.
I use a multi of 12x-14x, so running EIST sometimes makes it a little odd, so I just have it turned off...

OMGGGGGG to bad by this time the new processors will be way better thne this and these will just be the old Pentium Ds. What I'm waiting for is a sub $70 Pentium D 9xx or a AMD X2 for under $70....
CPU - Lapped Xeon Quad X3210 @ 3.0ghz w/ Lapped Tuniq Tower @ 1.3750

Case - P182B
Mouse & Keyboard - S510 Keyboard, MX518 Mouse
That chart reflects 3Dmark06's use of all 4 cores for the CPU test. Which is completely unrealistic at the current time
For any current game I can think of, It won't have any advantage at all over a dual core.
Still wondering what level of multicore (multithreading) support the likes of Crysis will have?
Crysis will have an option to completely do environmental calculations on a separate core, so it will need at least dual core cpu to play properlyI had somewhere a list of upcoming games that support quad cores, UT3 is one of them
...
Valve's update to the Source engine liked multiple cores very much as well. Load gets balanced unto all available cores. whether it's 2, 4 or 256.
I know benchmarks with it on current cames like COD2, quake4, half life, ect... show really no improvement, but Im trying to build a DX10 rig so this would probably be a good purchase for it.

okay,dumb question![]()
What's the best bang for the buck,if you look at the numbers Wombat gave in this thread?Q6600 or an E6850
I'm NO graphic artist, and no xtreme o'c-er(to be honest,i wanna take my first steps with this with my upcoming rig->i know the people overhere at XS will help me with it,lol![]()
I'm mere a hardcore gamer and i wanna try most of the upcoming games, and i know they'll ask a LOT from your machine![]()
look here. You will clearly see that the E6X00 is just as good as the E6X50 even with the 1333FSB

tnx for the link, but my question is more:is a quadcore a better choice then a dual-core for my needs?
Looks like Intel is cutting prices to try and curb the beating they're going to take once AMD gets their act together and realeases K10. I wouldnt be too excited about all this quite yet, wait and see what K10 is like before you hail this the new champion for O/Cers.
On paper K10 is atleast 1/3 faster per clock than Conroe, just keep that in mind.
NZXT Tempest | Corsair 1000W
Creative X-FI Titanium Fatal1ty Pro
Intel i7 2500K Corsair H100
PNY GTX 470 SLi (700 / 1400 / 1731 / 950mv)

What ever happened to the Xeon quadcores?
Intel QX8950
Asus P5K3 Deluxe Super WiFi

Wow... Looks like I'll be adding two more cores to my game box and moving my E6600 to the file server in Q3! Good news.... that 570 in my file server idles at 50C!
