Project: Water Inside [EXTREME 56K WARNING]

Okay, so, this project is originally written in swedish.. and I really don't have the energy to translate everything, so ya'll have to look at the pictures, but later on the updates will have comments written in english

    Ok, have started the planning.
Sketsh in sketchup och some other godies.

This is how the case will look in the end, glossblack with highpolished front.

This is the frontpart that I am working on

One done, one more to go

I have tweaked a little with the sketch, and I did a hopefully better solution to the design. You can see what's done

    Frame sawed to exactly 1cm

Why? To get the front thicker

Why?? So that the Aluminium metalsheet wont brush against the DVD-driver (Or what the hell you call it in english ;D)

This is how the loop is supposed to be.

IOW: Pump - radiator - radiator - cpu block - [gpu block] - tank - pump - osv osv osv

Have glued on the frame.. superepoxy is strong

Drawn out the lines for the logo, that I will cut with the dremel :dremel:

Have started to cut the logo.

    DREMEL ACTION!

    And some random photos

    I can see the light!

    Inside a tube

Went down to the workshop en fixed some stuff

It was to much work with the dremel, so I used the jiggsaw instead... was a bit easier

    I'm pleased with the result

I had some trouble mounting the fan. The holes had UNC threads, så neither M3 or M4 would fit. So i made the threads M4.

Mounted the radiator in the back

I discovered that the sidepanel hit the radiator, so i took away a little from the sidepanel

Got my parcel with a BIX2 and a 5,25 reservoir.
    Everything is beeing leektested

Got some spikefeets.. just don't know what I am going to have for protection

You dont want to put the computer on your feet with those

Found a .. dont know what the name is in english.. but ill use it for draining the system

    And the Beehhheeaaast! :P

Went down to the workshop for 4 hours, feels like I didn't get anything done

    Started puttying the frame.

    Cut out the 120mm fanhole

    Made a homemade electriccablelist

Made the mountingholes for the rad

And the crazy modder with puttydust on the nose ;P

    went down to the workshop

Started with drawing out the radiatortemplate

Cut out and a list is testmounted, note that it isn't fixed, it is just for testing. Can't glue it until I have painted the case

Radiator testmounted, all screws will be insexskcrews.

    Put on the feet, sexy

    Pretty tight

Ill have to thank elmor For these babies, You will notice later on what they are for

After the hard work it was time for a cheeseburger!

Finnished the grinding on the putty and painted it with basecoat. Pretty smooth

Polished some of the stainless steel just for fun

Started with the "case" for the pump, that will be polished.

Ok, testmounted the front frame and it was a nice fit.

Yesterday I ordered some white LED's for the front (Will have lighted plexi behind the aluminiumsheet)

    Nice and smooth.

The radhole from the inside of the case

    Continued with the pumpcasing

Glued the edges. Later I will putty and paint the case.. I will also make the hole by the suctionfitting more round and nicer

Well, it seems like people have trouble with bending plexi. So I had to try before I will do it on the real thing. I cant really understand what the problem is. It was actually pretty easy to bend it...?
And as you can see I didn't burn the plexi and i didn't get any "bubbles"

I used a crappy black n' decker heating gun.. well, black & decker is a budget trademark

I also painted the BIX 2, cause the paintjob was absolutely awful.
But now I got a nice paintjob with some mirrorshine. I will take better pics later.

My finger eh ,, As I said I will take a better pic so you can see the mirrorshine better.

So, got my white leds and resistors from lysdiod.com. These babies are supposed to lighten up the plexisides in the front.
I ordered 10 Leds, and I will use 6 in the front, so the last4 will go to something else. Dont know what, maybe lightning up waterblocks or so

Bought some spaces for the front

Which is this part of the front:

    And the modder-pet

Got up from the bed by 9 o'clock, ate breakfast and sent some packages aso.
But the main thing is ofcourse the projekt
Went to Söderströms järn & metall (Southstreams iron & metal ). Got my hands on a piece of aluminum.. 4kg. It costed me 100kr, which is about 14$
And as you maybe understand, it is supposed to be for the front.

    Exactly 3mm

The paint has been dryin' for 1 week.
    Hardly no orange-surface nor FLA

    And the wax

    Nice and shiny

Tried polishing the aluminum. There was some kind of oxidation that was pretty hard to get through

After 1000grit and autosol, not to good in my opinion.. need some tools to get the real-deal

Started grinding on the small radiator. And it surpriced me a bit when I found out that the original color was blue-metallic

    Ready for paint

Pretty dark pic, but you with bright monitors can se the reflection

And here they are, resting and hardening

Some dremel accessories is never bad

Ah, finally got something done today

The small rad have dried and the result is as awesome as on the other radiator.

Nice huh? (Yeah, there is a little miss by the screwhole, but it wont be seen anyway so..

As I will use hinges for the front door, I want it to look nice when you open it. So I'm going to but some plexi that will be painted black on the backside. So hopefully it will be nice and shiny.

    Masktaped plexi.

    Draw out the lines

    Jiggsawcut.

After some fine-tuning it was a nice fit.

Time to make a hole so I can acces baytank, dvd-driver etc.
    Marked out.

Bent some plexi to cover up some ugly areas of the case.
I will spray it black on the backside.

Screwed into place with some M4.

Ah, got a nice cut in my finger from something. Didn't notice until I looked at the finger

Okay, so, got some time today and worked on the case.

    Started painting the cover-up plexi.

And the finnish is.. yea
It's like having a 5mm thick clearcoat layer

This area is ugly, and will be covered up with a piece of plexi.

The camera focused on the reflections

Made a hole with the jiggsaw in the front.

Made a hole in the frontbezel.

    Will use this tunnelthing.

    Made screwholes for the tunnel

Both parts painted on the back. The finnish will be awesome

    The tunnel painted.

Masktaped the 4mm plexi. The right piece will be used for the sidepanelwindow, and the other will be used for the front.
Used all the tape that was left :p

    Marked

It was a nice fit in the sidepanel, the plexi slid in under thos edges and will make the whole sidepanel more stable.

Took some photos of the paint.

    What's the lamp doin' there?

    Oh well, hello there

    So, bought some new components.

    3st Titan fans, 120mm.
    1st Cooltek fan, 120mm.
    1st Sunbeam rheobus, (0 - 12v)
    2st Nexus disktwin.

    Cooltek-fan specifications

    Titan-fan specifications

    Nexus hardrivecooler.

So, this is how the rad looks with the fans

This is how it will look like inside.

    Started sanding the sidepanel.

    Inside

Finished sanding the sidepanel and done some polishing work on a fan-frame

    1000 grit

So, more sanding and polishing work
I have tested polish a little on the chassis, but I don't know if I like it, what do you think? Should I have a little more "rough" polish or should I paint it black?

    Here are some pics

As you cas see; the surface is pretty rough, but maybe it's cool, i don't know, you decide

And here is a little work-movie of me sanding the chassis

I have painted the frontframe black.

I have also painted the inside and the back of the case black.

When the frame had dryed, I went on making holes for the hinge. And then I mounted the hinges.

    The base-frontaluplate was testfitted.

    testmounted on the chassi

After that I drilled holes in the frontplate and the baseplate and mounted them together with the distances and some insexscrews. Although this is not how it will look like, cause you all know that I will have plexiglass behind the frontplatet that will be lid up by the LED's

This is how the workbench looks after 3 hours. Not a pretty sight, but all the tools are necessary.

I found out that it was really hard to use a black vinylfilm to tint the plexi. So my dad got me some tinted real glass. Yes, it is some heavy ****, but it is nice

The effect is, that if I dont have the case lighted at the inside, you wont be able to see through the glass. But if it is lighted, you will se through.

These are the insexscrews and nuts that I am using. Shiny stuff. M4.

    Yep, i've got a few.

For you who liked the movie that I had earlier, here is another one:

I got the backplate mounted to the hinges

And this is how the hinge is mounted to the frame and the backplate. The space in the hinge is actually pretty big, so i got nuts to fit in.

Started working on the plexiglass that is supposed to be illuminated.
I fastened the plexi with the aluplate with some screws to make it easier to sand and get the edge nice.

Heh, ye, some work to do

    The backside, wont be seen

The job is dirty and time comsuming. Its not fun to sand plexiedges,, i tell you.
    One edge almost done

Ah, and there we have it. After like 2 hours, 2 metres of 120pt sandingpaper and some work with the :dremel:, I got the edges nice.

Tested to lighten up the plexi, it got a bit scratchy though, but it wont be seen anyways so..

Pretty nice, a total of 8 leds will lighten upp the edges.

Then I mounted the whole front together.

Me likes. I'm actually quite proud of it. I have made it all by myself and it is my own design. That makes it a bit special i think

This is actually about how the case will look like, although im going to make that final hand polish later, to make it get that real fresh bling-look.

And the last pic for this update

So todays update is pretty kewl. I did the soldering work on the leds and tested how the glass would look like.
    Some pics then:

First off i tried to push the leds in the holes, and they stuck nicely.

Then it was time to do the soldering. The tools needed, you got to love the cable peeler. A real one, so decent to use.

    First two LED's soldered

    4 LED's

    All 8 LED's soldered.

Mounted the door together and fired up the LED's. I really like the look.

And as I said earlier, the LED's look blue, but are in fact white,

    Me likey

Tried the tinted glass. It is not fixed to the door, so don't mind the gaps.
All you can see is reflections :naughty:

But as you can see, when there are some kind of lightsource, you can see through the glass,

So, this is all for now. And now I want a lots of COMMMENTS!

    Update 18/2 - 07

Whoa, take it easy guys, it isn't even finished yet, haha

@ ANP !!!: Thanks thanks! . This project hasn't costed me so much, yet. I got the case for free from my uncle. I think it has costed me about 150$ in a total. And that includes paint, watercooling etc.

@ Leeghofd: Thanks, components will be bought in April, so it is quite some time left. You will also get a movie later.

    @ day187: Thanks

    @ BooStFeD: Thanks thanks

    Update 18/2 - 07

    Mounted the 5,25 bay cover.

Mounted the frontfan and put shrinkingtube on the cables.

And this is how it will look like when you open the door.

    Someone wanna get pierced? :worried:

I wouldn't put the small rad in the back like that, because it won't be getting fresh air. But WOW that work is awesome!!! How did you bend the plexiglas? Did you heat it up? I never knew you could bend it :P

You pop it in an old (or a female will kill you) oven for like 10 - 15mins and it goes all floppy and you can bend it whatever shape you want

What temperature? I don't want to throw plexi in an oven because 1. fumes 2. its expensive. Perhaps there is some other way to get one part of it heated up and floppy...

That is freaking amazing and Xtreme. Congrats. I love the super-glossy, reflective black and the nice polished metal. The only problem I have with the door is that I didn't see a vent for the front fan in the door. I would think it would be awkward to keep the door open the entire time the computer is on... or if you don't, the fan does pretty much nothing.

Other than that, it looks great. I would definitely buy a case that looked that awesome if i saw one.

Can't remember, been years since I've done it. Wasn't awfully hot, and surprisingly wasn't all that smelly unless you're cooking it :P . You could use a heat gun, the type used to strip paint off, that would work, just heat where you want to bend.

I know i know, but there was no other way. ill simply have to lean the case until the rad is somewhat airless.
    Thanks
I put the plexiglas in a wise with wood between, so i wouldn't scratch it. Then I kept a steady preassure to the piece that i wanted to get bent, whilst I heated the bendingarea with the heatinggun

Don't worry, if you look at the bottom of the frontframe, you will se a gap. It is about 7-8mm space between the frontinterior plexiglas and the aluminum front, so there is no problem.

    Excellent work!

Out of curiousity, where does everyone keep getting those sketchup models of hard drives, motherboards, etc. Did you make your own or is there a site where I can go and just download certain models of certain products?

    Nice job there!
That is definately the thread with the most pictures I have ever seen
Took ages to load, but it was worth it.

    Great stuff.
I hate seing threads of people starting a mod and then they dont post for ages.

Really good looking design. The front looks similar to the sketches I made for my old Big tower, but I never managed to get it started

I like it a lot so far. Simple and clean. Nice.

    Update 6/3 - 07

Ye'allo boys and girls! Time for a new update!

First off, I saw out a cover of aluminum for the back of the case. I will later on make holes for graphicscard.

I've got a bit unsure with if I'm going to use the baytank. So I made a swiftech minires out of cardbord. It could fit here, but it will be tight. Any opinions about this?

If so, the plan is to mount a fillport up in the middle of the case, and connect it to the swiftech res.

I dumped the original startbutton and got my hands on a chromed button. It is actually a doorbell button. But I believe it is quite nice

Polished the sunbeam fancontroller. or should we say "Fun-controller"
Yep, got a bit blurry at the corner. But I'll fix that, don't worry folks!

Since my tube of autosol got empty, i thought it was time to try something new out. Earlier i got a tip from darkened about this product, and, i can say that it is much nicer than autosol. Smaller grains = better finnish = happy NysoO

maybe you could replace the spikes with those lian-li wheels? it already looks a lot like a lian-li.
