Does this board always undervolt by 0.05v from bios to windows?
Are there any secrets to squeezing a few more MHz of FSB out of this board?
I've topped mine out at around 525x7. I can still make it into windows at 532x7, but I get a hard lock very quickly. BTW, I doubt I've hit the FSB wall of the e6300. I'm running at 1.50V to get 3675MHz.
I'd really like to get 529x7 as my everyday clock, but its not going to happen unless I can figure out how to increase the stability of the board. I think I may try improving the NB cooling and add some mosfet sinks to see if that helps things.
You know how many conroe CPUs do over 3.6Ghz especially 1.50v? Extremely very very few, I have to say less than 1%.Originally Posted by Vulcan

Hey all,
I thought everything was running smoothly with my setup:
C2D E6600
2Gb G.Skill HZ
P5B-Dlx
EAX1900CF
2x320GB Seagate .10
XClio 650W
Till yesturday when the gf was surfing around and the screen went black (didn't shut off) and now the system will not post. Tried pulling power for awhile, tried CMOS Jumper, pulling the battery, waiting, all combinations of the above, pulled all other components out, etc etc
It doesn't beep, no keyboard lights, nothing. Hitting Reset on case causes the board to cold boot (power down, then up after a second or two). Tried one stick of ram at a time, same result. Can get it to beep if pulling out both sticks of ram, other then that its silent.
Is there anything else I should try, maybe something with this board, or just something I might be forgetting before I contact Asus for RMA ???? Maybe this isn't a MB problem ? I'll try some different ram, but I am kinda thinking its the Mb.
Thanks, Also if anyone has a recommendation for an Intel ICH8R or higher board (not sure what the hot board is right now) I would consider switching to,

My goal is still hot hit 3.7GHz 24x7 stable.
Yo, new sound drivers are up on Asus site...Gonna try the Vista ones soon which were still crap as of the last betas, the XP ones seem stable. No long boot up. No idea if DTS works because I don't know what it is or what it does.

I have an e6300 and P5B Deluxe, just have a couple questions about temperatures...
I am not really interested in overclocking this system, more interested in making it completely silent. Anyway, it's been running at stock speeds with stock cooler and 120mm exhaust in a P150 since I got it 4 months or so ago, almost perfectly stable after I got some issues with the RAM sorted.
Anyway, I ordered a Ninja in hopes of going passive, and just today decided to get speedfan, TAT, Orthos, etc going to get some notes on temperatures so I could compare after I install the Ninja.
Imagine my surprise when I see what is being reported:
Idle (with CPU fan at 100%):
Core 0 -60C
Core 1 -60C
CPU -92C (socket temp?)
MB -44C
Stressed
Core 0 -76C
Core 1 -76C
CPU -102C
MB -46C
What the hell? Does this board have notorious problems with temperature reporting? 102 degrees? I find it hard to believe I have been able to play games 3 hours straight with my computer running at 102 degrees at some part.
Any ideas what is going on?
ignore the CPU temp from SpeedFan. the core temps from TAT are what you need to be looking at. if they are that high, then you mounted your heatsink incorrectly.

Western Digital 120GB SATA-150
Silverstone ST50EF-Plus (500W) ::: Antec P182 ::: Scythe Infinity
I thought your CPU would shut down on a temp like 102 degrees

Took apart the stock HSF, there was a solid amount of dust impeding airflow, got rid of that. I'm quite positive the HS is clamped correctly: place over holes, 1 snap 2 snap 3 snap 4 snap. Nice and secure.
Now,
Idle is:
CPU: 44
Core 0: 44
Core 1: 44
Load is:
CPU: 68
Core 0: 69
Core 1: 72
Still really hot, I could perhaps shave off 5 degrees by using some proper thermal goop instead of the intel stuff that has been on there forever, but even then, it's still smokin![]()
Does anyone have a problem when booting from a SATA DVD-RW drive with bios 1004 ?
I have a Plextor 716SA and the P5B Deluxe w/1004 BIOS. Last nigth I tried to boot from my XP CD for a clean format/install and no matter what I put on boot order in BIOS it doesn't boot at all !!
This CD was bootable with 0804/09xx bios and the same DVD-RW. My system is the same since last XP install.
Any idea what's going on ?

I've had problems with SATA ODD's till I changed the SATA cables itself. Spend several weeks looking for a solution. Changing the SATA cables made it work. I did have the problem with different BIOS revisions so might be another problem you have. I'm still at the 09xx BIOS.Originally Posted by jVIDIA
Also recheck your BOOT order in BIOS after a BIOS upgrade. You never know ;-).

I have been plagued by very similiar problems...I don't think I've ever heard this board beep.Originally Posted by este

I'm on my 2nd P5B delux now and it just wont POST anymore.
I used to use a cheepo stick of samsung RAM to get her up,
before putting my TeamX D9s in, but now even that don't cut it.
I can honestly say this is the most problematic board I've seen in 15 years.
Although... I just bought a 3rd one and picking it up tomorrow! HAHA
Gonna RMA #2 which I got in exchange for #1 :P
I'm hoping #3 will be good, because the OCing on
this board w/ my E6300 and TeamX RAM is SICK on air!
I have a serious love hate relation with it.
WHAT HAPPENED TO QC/QA ASUS!?!
Tomek.
Edit - the one that now won't POST (#2) is made in China Rev 1.03G
I think alot of these P5B problems can be attributed to RAM compatability.
IF you have high end micron RAM (TeamX or G.Skill etc) you might need more volts than the defualt 1.8 the board supplies..
If P5B #3 has the same problems, I'm considering VDIMM mod to bring the default to 2.0V or 2.2V

I've had this on-going problem with my system where I get stuttering and reduced overall performance in games. I've swapped out my videocard, soundcard, heatsink, RAM, tried various BIOS settings and also reformatted a few times. Nothing has helped whatsoever. I just can't work it out.
My CPU cores also idle at 48 degrees with the stock cooler. Under load with Prime95 they get to about 67 which is fairly high. I've also tried a Ninja+ cooler on it and didn't get much better results. I am quite certain it's mounted correctly.
Nope mine works just fine, Lite-on 16x sata dvdrwOriginally Posted by jVIDIA
