@ another observation on this board.. I cant trust the cmos reload option.. i usaully use the cmos reload when I failed an oc.. but recently.. I have tested the same setting and I have been stable with that settings(orthos stable).. but when I use the cmos reload and try to run orthos.. my tested settings fail..

If there are DFI people here please test the cmos reload options again.. tnxs

I was trying for 600mhz memory yesterday and i manage to run 1mb super pi. More tweak should make it more stable. 2,52vdimm.

In my case, I am afraid to go over stock vdimm of 2.2v(yes I have fan on the ram..120mm fan blowing on ram and chipset)

The furthest I have gotten is 500mhz 5-6-5-5-18-24-42-2T....I use the 2 orange slots

I was able to do 400 mhz 4-4-4-4-18-24-42-1T.....I am not pushing anything except cpu(giving it 1.52v)

I use 1.42NB/1.23SB ...I am not convinced on this board and pushing it with voltage....I mean jeez 1.5v max for 24/7 use on NB..only get 450fsb in many cases

over 1.5v..no matter cooling and DFI told tony watch out.....I have a feeling we are going to see these boards die

also where is DFI and bios updates nothing since Dec basically....the 12/7 beta bios was much better for performance but had reboot issues/usb/raid issues....

I am sad to say this board is not really worth the price....

Tony said 1.5V max with RD600 great. With 1.5V u get 450 some go as far as 470.
Question what voltage is needed for i975X and P965 for 460-470 fsb? With 1.65V my P5WDH maxed out at 422 and th chipset was pretty hot. Some can 1.85 and some vmod for more. Nobody told me it's safe for 24/7 use but i can imagine not safe. More with 1.5V u can 450 fsb on RD600, u have an E6600 so u can go for 4GHz, is ur cpu can do that? so Why more is needed for 24/7 use? for benching my max cpu is 4257MHz with coeff 9 so 473 fsb and i put 1.59V on chipset.I don't think i will burn my board for 2-3 hours benching with this voltage. I even do more for testing and my card is here rockstable.
Don't want to flame u Nealh but what do you want this board to do cuz i don't understand ur dissapointment?

He's disappointed that he can't use it 24/7 at over 1.5v on the NB without frying the board, perhaps? That's the gist, I think.

Let me put it this way: If you can only get over 450fsb by pushing the voltage on the NB higher than what is expected will damage the board over time, what's the big deal? You're never going to be able to use it at that speed over a long period, unless you want to replace your board a few times. I mean, yay, you got your board to go really fast for a few hours. Other people like to get 24/7 use at those speeds when they buy an expensive mobo. :P

I understand for sure but what i say is that with below 1.5V for 24/7 u have already quite a performance. Personaly i have the board, voltage set at 1.48V, 450 fsb coeff 8 so 3.6GHz, ram at 550MHz 4-4-3-4 2.3V, 125MHz pci-e. I use that for 24/7 usage. I have few of my comrades with those types of setting for 24/7!!! And when i bench i get by far the best performance around me.

Maybe he's disappointed in the board's performance. I know I am. It was really hyped and it doesn't look like the overclocking killer it was prophesized to be.

I am at 1.42v..bios reads 1.44...best I can seem to do is less than 400fsb

If I set for 1.48v..bios reads 1.5v(I know the bios may not be accurate but what else do I have to know for sure)..so to me 1.48v bios setting puts me at the 1.5v limit..too close for comfort(what if the bios is wrong and I am getting more than 1.5v and the board dies..I payed way too much..so I am out of optios as I see it)

I do not want more than 1.5v...I have no desire to fry the board..I will give up speed for longevity(relative..I do not plan to keep this for yrs)

I would love to run a lower multiplier at as close to 450 as Tony says 464 is best

also they touted this board as top end, excellent performance

1T is not easily obtained....I can get it at 400mhz(not 3D mark05 stable but 12hrs + p95 stable) but not 500mhz..too much stress

the there have been numerous issue with thermal paste on chipset and poor quality HS flatness

    First of all.

Pretty much every board is overhyped when it comes to Intel boards, but there are reasons I believe this to be. Count the stars on the intel board posts on this forum. Even the Abit 680i board got a lot of stars for a board which was supposed to make abit king of OC since socket A - Which it didn't.

Firstly, have you noticed how hard it is to make a choice on a motherboard for C2D?

Right, so we got a lot of chipsets so a lot of choice but with these we have a lot of problems with each one.

975 - not capable of high FSB, but ok if you use a high multi chip but people know clock speed is not the end all of performance and would rather do high FSB with a lower multi. 8*2 PCI-E speed for crossfire.

965 - High clocker, some boards without strap control, but 4* speed PCI-E slot for crossfire.

blah blah blah, you should know what I'm trying to get at is finding a suitable board is hard without taking into consideration nVidia monopoly of making SLi a nvidia only capable board.

You then got the lovely ASUS, filling up the market with millions of boards.

Who touted the board as top end? DFI didn't the reviewers did.

No offence nealh but in this thread you kinda get the impression that you're not willing to play at the boards settings based upon the fact (esp with GREF settings) you're asking for what is the best value for XZY for your setup. Only you can find that out for sure, people can only guide but each CPU as you well know is different.

Like I said, don't take that the wrong way. I personally took a long time to get my DFI NF4 / Opteron setup tweaked to it's best and I know this is going to be worse. (Just installed my W/C loop, waiting on fan controller now and longer SATA cables).

As I pointed out above, you have a lot of options open to you for a 6600 processor due to the 9 multi.

Lanparty boards will always be overhyped from launch - victim of their own success.

If it ain't watercooled, I don't wanna know.

Nealh you 450*8 but it may be your cepu who can't. To get to 3.4 u already put 1.4625 on cpu so how many for 3.6, 1.55? Too much for a cpu 24/7? Maybe.
    U wanna 500MHz 1T!!! I can't but i can 600MHz 2T with 2.5V. U see a buddy with same ram than yours and 500MHz 1T but he put 2.4-2.5V. Too much for 24/7? Maybe.
    Basically u wanna 450MHz at 1.45V, 500MHz 1T at 2.2V and 3.6GHz at 1.5V.

No I am not looking for 450 * 8..my cpu is not good enough..I full understand OCing is YMMV

Merkel..I agree with alot of what you have said..

However..I have played for nearly 2 weeks trying to tweak settings...problem is I just do not understand all the relationships with the different voltage adjustments..with that said...I seem to wall at 390-400 fsb at 1.42....from what Tony said 1.5v is max and since I have no easy to tell the true chipset vcore ..setting 1.48(my bios reads 1.5v, but who knows how accurate this is)..has me concerned about killing the board

I expected the board to hit 450 fsb consistently with less than 1.5v...I figure my board should be able to do 438 * 8=3500 but it seems to need more NB volt....this is set to 2T, async, auto strap..

In comparison on performance the board is very middle of the road to low end...this really surprised me

I ask not for my cpu specifically..but others experiences on what they found helpful and worked on there cpu as a starting point

My cpu is not going to get 3600 at 1.45v and I gave up after 2 days of testing realizing the max cpu speed was 3500 at 1.52v(I prefer not to exceed this..and maybe should just drop back to 3400 at 1.4625v)

I stand behind my disappointment with the mobo...DFI delayed to get the bios working....it does but alot of the performance aspect of the board do not

Look I realize all the C2D boards have issues...but we have seen or heard from DFI on future bios ...there are issues and I check DFI board, I see nothing of upcoming improvements

I have encountered a warm boot and cold boot issue..very sporadic but real...

Promise SATA controller sucks for usage ..trying moving a large file
There is no excuse for the chipset thermal paste and poor HS flatness reported by users
the NB should have been actively cooled not passively....

I am not saying the board is a failure but I am sad with its performance and issues leave alot to be desired IMHO

You can disagree which is your right and I respect it

I know several who are very happy with the mobo and that great

I wouldn't disagree as it's your personal preference at the end of the day. I'm pretty sure I've read somewhere that async takes more nb volts to get stable. Tried running sync?

If it ain't watercooled, I don't wanna know.

    Just as an example:

    Memory clock Frequency: - Sync
    Control CPU Frequency: - Manual
    CPU Frequency Mhz: - 442
    NB FSB Strapping: - 300
    Memory Overclocking: - Disabled

should sit an E6600 2.4 with 442fsb & 7x Multi @ 3094Ghz with Ram @ 1:1. However, bandwith efficiency is cr4p for it, which suprises me! I am sure if my CPU was a better OC-er, I could get a 266 Strapping into the mix making it faster still. This kinda leads to where Tony advises this RD600 board with higher Multis, making an E6600 absolute minimum entry level to get any decent performance out of the board.

To get this far on the FSB, I was 1.48V on NB & she is Water cooled via a DD Block on a Double Rad single pump loop. Circa 37-40 Deg @ bios. Not stable here for long tho & that was using OCZ 9200 ram @ defualt timings 5-5-5-15?
After fighting with a Rev 505 BA2 over the last few days, looks like I'm keeping the RD600. Shame RD600 dont have the Marvel Raid controller. The Matrix is the fastest onboard Raid controller I have ever seen.

The unfortunate downside of the board for me is the terrible Raid. Promise blows & ATI sucks, making my Maxtors rattle & rumble. They wont last long, thats for sure. Maybe a 4K option in the Raid Bios would solve this?
