    Hynix memory in 8800GTX

I got my 8800GTX back from rma yesterday and we noticed it has Hynix memory in it. Check it out:

The performance difference is interesting. My black pcb 8800GTX with Samsung memory clocked @ 691/1003 and scored 12,503 in a 3D Mark 06 run at the Tri State bench Fest a few days ago. Last night this new card was able to clock a to 709/1026 and hit 12,659 in '06. I can prolly get this card to 13K with some memory optimization and playing with the core/mem clocks. We also took the time to lap the MC14 ram sinks with 320/400/500/800/1000/2000 grit sandpaper and attached them with ceramique and tiny dabs of super glue at the corners. My ram temps never got beyond 20-21c during benching last night.

Yeah, I never knew Hynix memory was that good, but even in a 2x512MB TwinMOS DDR2 kit, it hit nearly DDR2-700. Granted, that's DDR2, not GDDR3, but I think Hynix is underrated in any case.

That worked out really well last night PB. Those tiny dabs of superglue really hold the sinks on well..

Hynix is really underrated now. I was definitely surprised when my 7900GS with Hynix memory hit 950mhz from 660mhz stock.

I am considering rma-ing my other card to have both with Hynix memory. Evga can cross ship me one in two days.
